Chapter 18 After Pastor McFarland left, the conversation restarted, focused entirely on the confrontation. The older gentleman by the fire were wound up and ready to take Keith on; to show him how to treat a lady. Oddly enough, it was the most cantankerous one of the lot who was quiet. Mr. Winders had little to say, but he kept a close eye on Mavis, concerned that she might be distressed. As he watched, he was pleased to see that she was not shrinking away, if anything she was just as fired up as the surrounding gentleman. He liked that about her, nobody would mess around with her; he would make sure that a situation like this didn’t happen again. Finally, things settled down and one by the one the older men left to go to their homes. George and Mavis closed the station for the evening.
