The Skipton sisters might have been enjoying a pleasant evening, but their older friend was not. Instead, Mavis was confronted and questioned by an arrogant young man in an unpleasant, demeaning manner.
It didn’t take Mavis all that long to deduce what was going on after Scott came in with Jimmy and Kenny to speak with the men by the fireplace before leaving in a hurry. Those left behind confirmed what was going on. Mavis heard earlier about the possible intruder out at the lake house, but was assured by both Kenny and Jimmy’s grandparents that there were no signs of a break-in. She’d decided to keep that knowledge to herself and see how things would develop.
