Chapter 8
Sadie
I’m staring at my full-length mirror in the bathroom while Rebecca and Lela continue to get dressed in my room. The outfit they had originally picked showed more skin than my own nightwear! Not happening.
I quickly grabbed another dress from my closet, so they didn’t notice and put it on. It was a white sundress that has a little lace rushing around the top and sleeve area that comes down a little lower than mid-thigh. Even THIS is out of my comfort zone. I bought it online because I thought it was cute.
“Hurry up!” Rebecca whined on the other side of the door. I finally walked out, and she was disappointed. “I thought you were going to wear the red dress I brought you?”
“It’s a glorious dress; it is just NOT me. This one will be fine. I am just not that confident in the dresses that ya’ll wear. You both have the perfect bodies.” My voice trailed off at the end.
“You would look amazing in our dresses; honestly you might out-do us!” Lela chimed in.
“Very nice of you, Lela, but I’ll stick with this.” I fiddled with the hem of my dress and headed toward the bathroom to work on my hair.
I wore my hair straight with a slight curl at the bottom. I did a natural eye shadow with my winged eyeliner and thick mascara. My eyes really popped tonight, and for once, I felt beautiful. Maybe I should dress up a bit more.
Lela was lying on her stomach across my bed and flipping through a magazine since she was done getting ready. As she flipped the page, she said, “So, this is your first time at a club, Sadie. You’ve danced before, right?”
I cringed. This part I was not looking forward to, the dancing. I never went to dances in high school. I always worked. Sure I dance in my bedroom all the time to music videos on Youtube, but dancing around people with guys was an all new thing.
“Yeah, well… there was that one time…” I paused, “yeah, no, I have never danced in front of anyone before.” I quickly added.
Rebecca and Lela just stared at each other in awe. “This is going to be fun,” Rebecca said gleefully.
“What do you mean, fun? I’m scared to death!” I squealed.
“Listen,” Lela started, “we will take it slow, get a drink at the bar, loosen you up and you can just watch and get a vibe of what is going on. We will take it slow and be with you the whole way.” With that, I sighed a little. They were really patient with me.
“Ok, I’ll try.”
After spending another 30 minutes on make-up and hair, we all descended the stairs where Nathan and a few of his friends were waiting. Nathan actually cleaned up pretty well.
His dirty blonde hair was tousled to the left side of his head, and was wearing a white button-down with his sleeves rolled up halfway up his forearms. Black jeans were tight around his hips and went down to a nice boot cut. He was handsome; I’m sure girls drooled over him.
Nathan and his friends started staring as we descended the stairs. It really felt like the movie She’s All That, yet I hadn’t had my dreadful fall down the stairs.
Rebecca cleared her throat and smacked Nathan on the shoulder.
“Who are your friends?” I gave a smile. After hanging out with Nathan last night, I’ve started to not feel as intimidated by all these crazy, strong looking guys.
“Right,” Nathan cleared his voice. “These are my friends, Ethan and Marco.” He waved his hand like he didn’t care about them.
Ethan was shorter than the 3 of them, with red hair and green eyes. His 2-day-old scruffy face was a sharp contrast to his pale skin. He was built, just like the rest of them, with Celtic tattoos on his forearms. Marco was almost the opposite. Dark hair, olive skin, and dark eyes. He was holding on to a beer he brought over to get the party started.
“Pleasure to meet ya’ll,” I said. They all looked at each other and smiled. I’m so lost; it was like they were thinking the same thing.
“On that note, let’s get going.” Rebecca looked annoyed.
You could hear the music pounding from the inside of Nathan’s large SUV. My nerves and anxiety were through the roof, and I was just about to back out when Rebecca spoke up.
“You are going to be fine, trust me. These guys will protect us. Nathan and his friends are protective of our friend. You won’t get in any trouble.”
I let out a weak sigh, “Ok, I trust you.”
Nathan
As Sadie descended the stairs, I was struck in awe of how beautiful she looked. Xander was howling in delight. He’s honestly never been that excited about all the girls we have had, but this one, she was special, and she wasn’t even our mate.
However, she can be changed. It isn’t every day you find someone that is not your mate that could be changed. The Moon Goddess has given her to someone, but I’m being selfish and want to take her for myself.
I couldn’t imagine my own mate that may or may not be out there comparing to her. I even went overboard the other day and marked her home. I did it all in jest, but Rebecca had to scold me later for doing it.
Wolves are territorial animals. If we want to mark our territory, we will damnit. Marking the way I did, you need permission; she-wolves get pretty upset over it if you are not their mates. Sadie is human, though; she won’t know the difference.
Rebecca and her whole family are extremely pro-mates. Meaning if she is meant for someone that I should leave her be. I can’t seem to get her off my mind, and my wolf has become obsessed. I won’t let her go that easily. Since we don’t have a bond, I will have to court her the human way.
Once she reached the bottom of the stairs, I noticed she had put on make-up and even curled her hair a bit. Not that she needed any of that. She still looked ravishing.
“So you have taken an eye on the little fox, haven’t you?” Ethan mind-linked at me. All the male wolves had dubbed her little fox because of her short stature, alluring features and swiftness. “She reeks of your scent.”
“Rebecca is very cross with you. You need to let her be if that is that is what she wants. It is all fun and games to date and play, but putting your scent on her is too far. She can be changed and has a mate. Only a mate may do that…” Marco replied.
“She doesn’t know the difference;besides, I’m going to court her like a human does. She’ll fall for me in time.” I chuckled.
“Your future mate will be pissed,” Ethan said in all seriousness.
“You look beautiful, Sadie,” I said. She gave her shy smile and muttered a quick thank you under her breath.
After the introductions, we all made our way to the club.
Club Moon was the only club in town. It was meant for fun, dancing, booze and the possibility to meet you, mate. Many wolves from surrounding packs would come to visit for a weekend to see if they could find their mate.
As we pulled up, I could see Sadie’s agitation. Rebecca said she has never been to a club, let alone a dance when she was in high school. She stayed away from it all, working as a waitress to help her aunt.
She had such devotion to her aunt. Many would want to go out and have fun in their teenage years, maybe rebel a little, but not Sadie. She was kind and caring.
Lela always would brag about how motherly Sadie was. When Sadie saw a new young mother struggling with her newborn pup, she took the liberty during her break to hold the screaming child to let the mother eat in peace.
Few werewolves would let anyone hold their children, let alone a human. People trusted her, and young children came to love her. The packhouse was always busy, and every wolf in the town knew who Sadie was, except some rotating warriors from our very own Warrior Pack back home.
Every werewolf also knew I was hunting for my little fox, so most of the unmated males let her be. They knew I was more powerful than them, being from the Warrior Pack.
The club music was loud, and you could feel the pulse of the bass rumble through your chest. I quickly went over to Sadie and put my arm around her to give her some comfort.
Even though Sadie has been shy, it seemed she was warming up to me and let me put my hands around her waist. We all headed towards a booth and waited for a waitress to take our drinks.
“What do you want to drink, Sadie?”
“I’m not sure; I’ve never drank alcohol before. What do you recommend?” She had tilted her head and looked like a confused little puppy. Adorable.
I spoke up quickly and said, “Let’s get a bit of everything!” Everyone nodded in agreement and got a random assortment of shots, wine, and beer. I also got Sadie some fruity drink, which she seemed to appreciate.
After an hour of the girls drinking, laughing, and an enormous amount of giggling and swaying, they danced. I wasn’t about to let Sadie go out on her own, so we all made our way to the floor.
Sadie didn’t even hesitate to dance. For a girl that has never danced in public, she was doing a fine job. She moved her hips and swayed to the beat like she was part of the music. I stayed close, but didn’t touch her to make sure she would be comfortable with me.
Song after some time, I made my way closer. Xander was nudging me to make a move. I stayed behind her and slowly put my hand on her waist. She stopped for a moment and realized it was me and became relaxed, and continued dancing with me.
I could smell her scent, strawberry, and champagne as I slowly put my head closer to the nape of her neck. She stilled a bit, trying to get her bearings, but still continued to dance. My wolf looked at her adoringly at her. She was going to be a perfect mate, if I could convince her.
Before they switched to the next song, she yelled towards Lela and me that she was going for a drink. We all nodded, and I was going to follow her, but Rebecca pulled me back as Lela accompanied Sadie.
“We need to talk.” Rebecca mind-linked at me.
“Not now; we are all having fun.” Rebecca has been on my case, and I was getting annoyed with it.
“She’s enjoying herself.”
“Listen, she doesn’t like you in the way you want. When we were getting ready today, I tried to get her to talk about it. She has never felt romantic towards anyone. She even has gone far as to say she has never been interested in anyone! She doesn’t know that kind of love.”
My chest hurt after she said that. “I can teach her that kind of love. I’ll take care of her, nurture her, and let her be able to rely on me. She’s never had that either. She will know in time.” I whined like a pubescent 13-year-old. Here I am, the biggest pack player, and I’m whining over a small human girl who doesn’t want me. What has gotten hold of me?
Rebecca was about to scold me more until Sadie ran into her arms, hugging her tightly. Her eyes were red, holding back tears threatening to fall down her face. “Rebecca,” she sniffed, “I would like *sniff* to go home, please.”
