Chapter 7
Nathan
She-wolves are the most bitter and jealous things. Rebecca has worked her ass off all week to take care of the pack’s food house or AKA The Diner. Just because Rebecca was chosen to take care of the Diner as an internship, the assigned waitresses called in sick.
Werewolves don’t get sick.
It was the stupidest s**t I have ever heard of. Once confronted, the Alpha just about had their heads. They didn’t think that Rebecca would say anything, but she was done after four days of no extra help.
A human helped over our own kind. Lucky her, that human showed up and was nice enough to help. I’m glad we don’t live in this pack; it just sickens me.
Sadie has helped Rebecca religiously for the past week, not complaining, taking any sort of payments. She did it out of the kindness of her own heart. All she asked was for lunch and dinner to eat there at the diner. Which she cooked herself and wouldn’t let the cooks help her. Talk about some saint.
“Rebecca, so tell me about this Sadie girl. I’ve heard a few interesting things.” I said slyly.
“YOU DO NOT TOUCH HER!” she screamed at me. Rebecca knows me too well. My wolf and I are nothing but man whores, any woman with legs he wouldn’t mind doing. “She is innocent! You can’t do anything. She is not a plaything, and she is my friend! I will never let you come close to her!”
“Challenge accepted,” I whispered in her ear.
“Nathan, I’m serious.” She pleaded. “Sadie is such a nice girl, and I honestly don’t think she knows anything about boys. The poor thing blushes at any of the warriors when they compliment her on her looks. She just stands there and quietly says thank you and runs away! They all find it completely adorable; I find it hilarious, but she is just too innocent for you! The Alpha has even mind-linked the pack giving explicit instructions to leave her alone while working!”
I started chuckling, “Well, we aren’t a part of their pack, so he can’t mind-link me and give me those orders.” I sighed, “I will do as you want and not bother with the poor thing at work.”
“No, Nathan! Anytime you are never to bother her!” she seethed.
“Fine.” I deadpanned.
Mind-linking is great and all for packs. You can talk to someone just like using a phone, but when you aren’t officially a part of the pack, you get to miss out on a lot of information. Lucky me, I get to work with the warriors for training every day and get most of the announcements there.
I would not let go of this little rabbit. The warriors say she is a tiny thing, but wickedly fast. Once a warrior tried to get her into his lap and she flew off like a bat out of hell.
“What are your plans tomorrow, Rebecca, now that you have help?” I asked.
“Tomorrow I am sleeping in, and Lela and Sadie will go shopping with me later in the afternoon. We are taking our little project shopping. She is in some desperate need of some new clothes.” She grabbed an apple out of the bowl on the table and started munching on it.
“Hmm, sounds good. I can finally get out of here and go with you.” I side-eyed her as I grabbed her apple. Oh, if looks could kill.
“Why would you come too? You hate shopping. You are just supposed to be around if I need you, and I don’t!” She grabbed her apple back and sat on the opposite side of the room.
“I’m curious about your little friend. I’m supposed to know if you interact with humans; it was part of your parent’s agreement, remember?”
“Ugh, fine. You can stay in the shadows; you can’t come to talk to her until we are done shopping. I don’t want you scaring her off.”
“Deal.”

Damn, these girls can shop. I’ve been sitting in the food court at the outlet mall for three hours! Enough is enough; they have got to be about done. I sniffed out Rebecca’s scent and knew she and Lela weren’t far off.
I even got within listening distance before they could even see me.
“Sadie, if you wear that, the guys will be all over you!” Squealed Lela
“Lela is right; everyone will howl for you!” Rebecca started cackling along with Lela.
“I’m not really wanting to gain attention! I’m just going to hang out with you both and attempt dancing, nothing more!” Sadie said with a panic.
“Lighten up,” Rebecca said. “We will be with you the entire time, and no guy will bother you unless you want to!” She winked. “You just have to get out there and not hide in the cabin and the diner all the time.”
Hesitantly, Sadie replied, “thanks.”
As I rounded the corner, I could finally see the three musketeers coming straight towards me. It was as if time had stopped. I didn’t even see Rebecca and Lela.
Sadie was walking with her head turned to Rebecca, laughing at something she said. Her highlighted brunette locks brushed her face, and she quickly swiped it away from her cheek. Her face quickly became flushed when she finally looked up at me, along with the other girls.
She was tiny, tiny in werewolf standards, that is. Even though I know she will be 20 this weekend, she still looks younger than that. Her green eyes peeked at me before darting away. So innocent and couldn’t even look at me. I’m going to go with my ego on this one and think it is because of my devilishly good looks.
She’s really caught my attention; my wolf Xander is nudging me just to touch her. “This girl is not our mate, but maybe she could be…” my wolf said. “What do you mean?” “She can change; she is meant to be someone’s mate. She could become a wolf-like us! She’s beautiful; I want her to be ours,” he purred.
It isn’t common for werewolves to take humans as mates, but when they do, they have to have a certain body chemistry between them to be able to be marked and mated. Only mates can change; we can’t go willy-nilly like some b***h-ass vampires do.
“Nathan! Say something! You are making this awkward! Are you her mate??” Rebecca’s mind linked me.
“No, she’s not, but I am going to make her mine. My wolf is howling in agreement.”
“Do nothing stupid, not here. Just be freakin’ normal!”
I snapped out of my trance and walked towards her, “I’m sorry, it’s just I’ve never been this close to an Angel before.” I smiled.
“You are a moron,” Xander replied. “Shut up. This is my first time trying to actually impress someone,” I snapped.
If Sadie could have turned any more red, I’m sure cars would have stopped. She had no idea what to do with my compliment, so she just ignored it.
“Sadie, this is my friend Nathan.” Rebecca sarcastically said.
“Nice to meet you, Nathan. I’m Sadie.” She gave a small smile.
“The pleasure is mine.” I grabbed her hand and put a kiss on the back of her hand. I could hear her heart accelerate. She was becoming uncomfortable, and even frightened, so I backed off.
“I’m sorry, Sadie. I wasn’t trying to upset you. I’m just overly friendly.” I cooed at her.
“It’s alright,” she took her hand back from me and looked towards Lela and Rebecca.
“I’m sorry you have to deal with him; he kind of follows me everywhere. He is a good friend, though. Don’t worry, he won’t bite.” She waved her hand around as she talked.
“Hard..” I laughed along with Rebecca and Lela.
Sadie gave me wide eyes and then started giggling. Damn, that laugh is addicting.
Sadie
After a few hours of rigorous shopping, we met up with Rebecca and Lela’s friend Nathan. Feeling uncomfortable would be an understatement.
I’m not gorgeous or anything. I think they know it bothers me to give me so much attention so they continue to do it. I just don’t handle social gatherings well at all-around guys. I have a sign above my head that says, “I cannot handle compliments or attention very well, so go ahead and tease me until I die of embarrassment.”
It doesn’t help that the last time I had a guy friend; it was a complete disaster. I just have never felt romantic feelings towards any guy, and I never know how to turn them down, so I just stay away.
It has been great the past few days at the diner dealing with the men there. They calmed down a bit after Rebecca chewed them out. They said they were only teasing-trying to get me to blush, but in reality, I just found them really intimidating. Everyone in this town is tall, but these guys look like Vikings going to war!
Huge muscles, tall, some covered in tattoos, I just couldn’t handle it. I thought they were going to break my neck with a flick of a wrist. Of course, I am going to act as innocent as I can so they don’t push me over and break me.
I was having a fun time until Nathan showed up. Now I’m back in my social anxiety box of, “don’t get killed and try not to blush so hard to get attention.”
We all headed back to my place and ordered pizza, and after Nathan pleading to come, I finally said yes. If he is one of Rebecca’s friends, I guess I can do this just once. I feel like this was going to be a really poor decision.
Nathan, Rebecca and Lela, and my car all pulled into my gravel driveway. The sun was setting, and it was already below the treeline. Lela really like the place.
“Sadie, this is beautiful! You said you inherited this cabin?” she said sweetly.
“Yeah, my aunt left it to me. I haven’t been able to fix up the place much, but it was just dirty with only a few things to fix here and there. When she or one of her family members left it, they had it locked uptight.” I smiled. I still couldn’t believe it was mine. It was so perfect for just me, maybe a little bigger than I wanted, but still mine.”
We all walked in, and I set my bags down on the table and started pulling plates out. We watched some Netflix and just chatted about the town.
Nathan has been nothing but friendly and even a bit funny. He would comment how nice my cabin smelled, and he needed to leave his “scent” around the place to ward off any unwanted animals.
“So, are you going to go pee outside my house or just spray cologne everywhere?” I started laughing at his ridiculous comment. “I’m just asking Nathan, because it seems to me you are acting like an animal and all these smells sound like territorial problems…” I started laughing. Rebecca and Lela started laughing uncontrollably and almost lost their dinner.
Nathan looked straight at me and smirked. “You know, that is exactly what I am going to do!” He walked outside, and I started screaming manically.
“DON’T PEE ON MY HOUSE, YOU FREAK!!!” As soon as I walked outside, he was peeing off my front porch. Even Rebecca started screaming at him while Lela was rolling on the couch.
“That is NOT RIGHT, Nathan, and you know it!” Rebecca started scolding him like a toddler. He then walked right up to her, made her step aside, and rubbed his butt all over my door.
“NATHAN! What are you doing!?!?” I started pushing him away from the door. I failed quite miserably, of course.
“I’m putting my scent on the door too!!” he started laughing madly.
The girls and I gave up and went inside. After a movie or two, everyone decided it was late and wanted to go home.
“Sadie,” Lela grabbed me by the arm. “We will come over tomorrow around 7 to get you ready for our clubbing night! You are going to look so hot.”
My face paled; I really didn’t want to go at this point. I’m going to look like a child walking in that place and people are going to stare at me like a freak. “Alright… I will see you, girls, then.”
“Don’t worry, I’m coming too. I’ll protect you!” Nathan puffed out his chest and flexed his muscles.
“Just don’t pee on me or rub your butt near me.” I giggled. Rebecca slapped him on the chest and pointed her finger at him. “You heard her!” she said in all seriousness.
Nathan backed away and held his hands up in defeat.
