Pearl’s P.O.V.

I heard that you lost control during your nightmare, Pearl?” I lowered my head when the queen asked me the question in a gentle tone. “Yes, my queen. I am still learning to control myself”, I said in a guilt-filled voice. “I didn’t ask you this to make you feel guilty, Pearl. This is understandable. Our sleeping state is the most vulnerable state for every creature present on this earth. You need to learn a yes for this but don’t feel guilty about this”, she said in a motherly tone and I smiled faintly.

“You already have the file that has every detail about your next assignment. This will be difficult for you because you have to go back to your packland”, she said in a cautious tone. I already had my best poker face but I knew that the queen could see through my soul easily. She stood up from her chair and came near to me. If I say that I am vulnerable in front of her, then it’s not a lie. She was a mother figure to me and I knew that I could show my vulnerability and my weaknesses only in front of her. She stood behind my chair and gently stroked my head. “I know this will be hard for you, Pearl. That place is responsible for your nightmares. You need to be stronger than you were before”, she said while stroking my head.

“I understand, my queen. I will not fail you”, I said with a determination in my voice. “That’s what I like about you, my dear”, she said in a chirpy voice and I smiled this time. She patted my back gently and then came in front of me again. “How is Kara?” she asked me and this time, my wolf whined inside my mind. I smiled and looked at the queen this time. She laughed while shaking her head. “Don’t worry, Kara… we will go for the run tonight”, she said while laughing at my wolf. I could see Kara grinning inside my mind. “She is happy now”, I said and then we both laughed together.

Suddenly an intoxicating smell of pine mixed with sandalwood hit my nostrils and I stiffened at my place. “What’s wrong, Pearl?” the queen asked me with concern. “Mate”, Kara roared inside my mind and it was really hard to breathe right now. I tried to gain my breath. “Uhhh… it’s nothing, my queen… Kara is still grumpy”, I tried to make an excuse with a small smile on my lips. I knew that she didn’t buy my excuse but didn’t say anything. “Mom… what are you doing?” I took a deep breath when I heard a deep thick voice of someone. “Look at our mate… let me release our scent”, Kara whined inside my mind but I blocked her immediately.

“What are you doing here, Ruth? I am in the middle of a meeting”, I heard the queen asking him in an annoying tone. “I was curious about The Recruits. So, I thought to ask you about their training”, he said in his thick voice making me hard to resist myself. I was still looking downwards at the file that the queen had given to me with the information that I needed for the next mission. I would be out of the pack in two days and I didn’t want this mate bond to affect my revenge. Above all, he was the prince and I knew his reputation very well. Even I don’t live inside the pack for most of the time, still, I knew everything that happened in the pack. The Moon Goddess couldn’t be so cruel to me.

“Well, mom… sooner or later… I have to take care of the pack and I think that this is the time to start taking participating in pack matters. So, I saw them training today and it was quite impressive”, he praised us and this time I looked at the queen. She still had her eyes narrowed on the prince. From my peripheral vision, I could see him standing not very far from him. All I wanted was to run away from there. When his scent became unbearable for me, I stood up. “Well… I think it’s your time to meet the leader of the team”, I was about to ask permission to leave the room when the queen spoke again suddenly.

“Pearl… this is my son, Prince Ruth and your future alpha king and Ruth”, she paused and looked at him this time. “This is the leader of the team, Pearl Spears”, she looked at me with a prideful gaze. I smiled this time and took a deep breath. I knew that I couldn’t delay this anymore. I moved my gaze with a poker face. My breath sucked when my eyes met his gaze. He was just like what I heard about him. He had the most piercing silver-blue eyes that was enough to hold me captive in my place. “Good Afternoon, prince Ruth”, I controlled all my emotions and bowed in front of him with curtsey while greeting him. The thing that made me keep myself wary of him was a hidden disdain in his eyes. “Good afternoon, omega Pearl”, he greeted me back but the way he called me an omega indicated that he loathed this rank.

“Ruth… what about this attitude?” the queen immediately scolded him in front of me. “What? Isn’t she an omega?” he asked her in a careless tone as if it was nothing. “You need to improve your attitude, Ruth if you really wish to get the throne”. I was taken aback by the coldness in the queen’s voice. I looked at them and he was looking at her with wide-opened eyes. “Uhhh… my queen… I will take my leave. As you told me about the location, I think… I should leave by today evening”, I said in a calm tone. “Don’t you think it will be too early to go? You guys just returned from the last mission last night”, she said in a concerned tone.

“I am going alone, my queen. The team will join me after two days. I need to do my research first. I will inform you first. Till then, let them rest and regain their strength”, I said without breaking my breath. “You also need rest, Pearl. You are on frequent missions for more than two years. Your wolf also needs a run that I have promised her today”, she said and I widened my eyes. She immediately looked at me with guilty. We both looked at Prince Ruth who was listening to our conversation. She almost forgot about his presence in the room. I looked back at the queen again. “Don’t worry about her, my queen. She will manage”, I said with a small smile on my face without leaving any room for further discussion.

“Take care of yourself, Pearl”, she said in a worried tone and I smiled genuinely this time. “I will, my queen”, I bowed respectfully in front of her and then to Prince Ruth again and immediately stormed out of the room without looking back. I could feel his burning gaze on the back of my head. My scent was hidden. There was no way that he could recognize me as his mate. This was best for both of us. “He is our mate but he is rude”, I heard Kara and smiled. “So you felt that too”, I asked her with a small smile on my lips and she rolled her eyes. “The way he called us an omega, I felt like ripping his head off. Mate or not, I can’t stand disrespect”, she said angrily, and I laughed at her this time. I was glad that my wolf was in the same front as me in this aspect.

“Pearl”, I stopped in my track when I heard his thick voice again. My heart started beating crazily thanks to mate bond. I slowly moved back and looked at him coming towards me with his long legs. My whole body stiffened and I clenched the file in my hand tightly. “Yes, Prince Ruth”, I said in a professional and cold tone. I was positive that he didn’t recognize me as his mate. “I want to see that file”, he said and raised his hands. “Don’t let him touch you”, Kara immediately warned me and I narrowed my eyes on him. I could see him getting impatient. I sighed and then raised the file towards him. I kept in my mind that I shouldn’t touch him so I held the find from one end.

He was about to hold the file when suddenly he caught my wrist. I felt the change in my aura due to the sparks that went through my whole body from my wrist. He took a long breath and looked at me with disdain in his eyes. I took a few long breaths and immediately hid my scent. I was thankful that the scent of omega that the queen has embedded on me came out hiding my original scent. There was a hint of my scent but it was not completely out.

"There is no way that I will have a weak omega as my mate", his words pierced my heart and I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I wanted to clutch my chest but I couldn't. I didn't want to show him how weak I was. "What are you waiting for then? Reject me and go on in your life", I gave him a challenging look. I could see the hatred for me in his eyes and it was enough for me.

"I, Ruth Wolf, future alpha king of werewolves, reject you, Pearl Spears, an omega, as my mate and my queen", as soon as he finished his words, I felt someone knocked the whole air out of my lungs. I wanted to scream in pain and my wolf, Kara, was whimpering in pain inside my mind. I stayed stood at my feet in front of him and smiled. "I, Pearl Spears, accept your rejection and reject you as my mate and my king", I accepted her rejection and, suddenly he clutched his chest tightly and looked at me with teary eyes. I smirked, moved back and stormed out of there. I needed to go away from him. I needed to go away from here. Finding a mate was not on my bucket list ever so it was not hard for me to suppress this rejection. Still, it was hurting like hell. I heard him falling down behind me but didn’t stop in my track. He had to endure that pain that he reflected on me.
