Chapter 13

1012 Words
Angela was dismissed earlier, so she got a good amount of time to prepare for tonight’s dinner with a client. She searched the place in order for her to wear the proper attire that fits for the meeting. She was satisfied with her choice of outfit for tonight. Black is a safe color and it always fits on any occasion, even at a wedding. Seven in the evening is the call time, so she readied herself early, afraid to be late on her first dinner meeting. She checked first the things she must have inside her bag, a note and a pen before herself. She then quickly take her shower. She is now facing her vanity mirror for make-up while drying her long hair. She preferred a natural-looking make-up than a heavy one, so this thing would not make her difficult. The formal looking, black dress had a playful slit reaching her mid-thigh, exposing it whenever she takes a step. Killer heels is not her mood today, so she chose the moderate two-inch heels, still making her tall. Slinging her bag, she checked again herself on the mirror. Smiling and satisfied, she left her room and headed downstairs. Locking her apartment door, she was rattled when someone blared his car's horn, loud enough for the whole compound to hear even a sleeping person. She shook her head while fixing her dress. Teens nowadays, so she thought. But what makes her shocked with her mouth hanging open, is that it's not just any teenager. Of course, he is no longer a teenager but a man in a suit now sliding down his glass window, looking at her. It is her boss, Adam. What is he doing in my place? And why did he know my place? Too many questions and she caught his eyes checking her from head to toe. "What are you doing here?" Snapping him but most likely to herself because there is an undeniable effect when he is doing that, checking her. "Sir." She added that she almost forgot before her boss will notice her disrespect. "I don't want to be late for this meeting." His answer, meaning he is here to fetch her. She did not expect him to do that. "Why are you still standing?" He sounded impatient and before he will lose it. Angela gets inside his nice car. As much as she hopes, that the ride would be silent, she forgot that the day isn't over yet, meaning the one day changed Adam is still there, and he is now talking to her. "Your place is too tiny." He started, she almost laughed off the word he chose to describe her place. "Why should I get a big one, when I'm the only one living?" Her comeback which was partly true but the main reason is that she can’t afford a big house on her own. "You are single? You look like a married woman with four children." His replied. Her eyes bulged at his last sentence, and he laughed seeing her reaction. Did he just call her a married woman with four children? She instantly gave him a disgusted look. She was sure she looks fine on the mirror before she left her place a while ago. If this is one kind of his sick jokes, then he is worst at it. He thinks he is funny because he can't stop laughing, but she thinks otherwise. "I'm sorry, sir but you are not funny at all." She honestly said to him. "Relax Angela, the night is still young for that kind of reaction. You look like a mad drunk woman." He threw his corny joke again. This time, he really laughed at his own joke. She can't believe he is doing it to her. She was beyond irritated. First, he called her a married woman with four children and now, a mad drunk woman. She wanted to get out of his car even if it is running, which will surely add his happiness for tonight. News Headline: Married woman with four children, drunk like a madwoman jumps out from a running car! Her thought, sulking on her seat while listening to the man in fits of laughter. She can't believe she was this affected by his unbelievable jokes. She finds herself easy to react when it comes to Adam. Just staring at him and listening to his laughter, she can't believe that her irritation was gone. She finds herself enjoying the scene in front of her. That was unlikely of him, what did he eat before this meeting? Sensing that she is not buying his crazy jokes, he stops laughing. "I'm just kidding earlier." And now he is serious. How this man can switch mood instantly? A minute ago, he was laughing his ass out picking on her and in a second he is back to being serious. "You really look good tonight, Angela." His sudden comment. He said them in almost whisper, but she was able to hear them clearly. Loud enough for her face to react, it may be a late reaction from him or maybe he doesn’t have the guts to tell him earlier, instead he is pissing her off, then surprised her later on when she least expects it. The car finally stops of its destination, and she caught his eyes trained on her exposed thighs before he stepped out from his car. His stare is again enough for her knees to feel weaken as if it was a melting jelly under his hot stare. She instantly regretted the choice of her outfit. Her boss knows very well how to use his card in making her feel like that way. He is not just her boss but also young and playful, and she is just the appointed secretary, bound to fall off his trap if she is not wise enough. Regaining her composure, she got out of his car. She was welcomed by the cold air of the night sending chills down to her spine.
