Dev stood slightly crouched, pistol in hand, and quickly raced through her list of alternatives. She would be within her rights, as captain of this vessel, to open fire immediately on the intruder—but that course of action would be foolish in these present circumstances. Her gun’s laser bolts might damage some of the merchandise that was stacked high and crowded all around her; and anyway, the natives were not likely to be heavily armed, as their technology did not extend far beyond the knife and spear stage.
