The next days continued on as normally for Cody as they could. Adam worked the night shift in the food court, so Cody spent his afternoons after school at Hayden’s house listening to records and watching two large turtles move around slowly. He even got used to the occasional chirping sounds that Hayden pretended not to hear. Cody didn’t want to risk alienating his only friend by questioning his peculiarities.
Mr. Gorski didn’t bother Cody to try harder after he noticed Skyler talking to him at the start of Monday’s gym period. Cody hadn’t noticed Skyler in his class before he was given his acting debut.
