CHAPTER 3: Climbing The Walls Of Hate.

Aurora's POV Days had now passed and I hadn't seen Jakes at the office. His father, Mr. Norman now had two offices, his and Jakes'. I wanted to ask what the problem was but I didn't even know where to start from or how it'll come off to him, so I let it slide. I received a call from a strange number. I was glad and sure it might be Jakes, "Hello, Aurora dear, how are you doing?" The voice asked. "I-I am okay, who's on the phone please?" "This is Martha, I know you don't know me but I really need to see you my dear. I have something very important to discuss with you." "I don't know anyone by the name Martha. How am I supposed to see you? When I don't even know you or how you got my number?" "I'll explain everything in details when we see. I'm really very sorry about everything." The lady apologized. She was middle aged from the way her voice sounded. I was still at work. I just couldn't wait for time to roll on, as I worked the rest of the day. I needed to get home as fast as possible. The day's work finally came to a blissful close. On reaching the house, I met my mom on the sofa, she was very sober. I had never seen her in a mood as such. "Mother, are you alright?" I asked, calmly. "No my dear, my fears are here. "Mother. I don't understand" I chuckled lightly, getting tense and nervous I sat properly in my seat. "What fears exactly,Mother?" "I'm not your biological mother!" She let out, followed by a burst into tears. I just sat there frozen in my seat. I stared coldly into utter space for the following seconds, before saying anything, "Tell me it's a joke, Mother!" I screamed, with my hands over my ears. "How would I joke with or about something as serious as that?" She asked. "You'll receive a call from a middle aged woman, she's your biological mother. I hope you forgive her. You need to. You set yourself free each time you let go of past hurts." She adviced. "How... How did it happen? Why did I find myself with you, when I had a biological mother somewhere, I think she's in a better place to tell you more as regards hwe side of the story, but I'll just tell you mine. "We were best friends in highschool. That was where we met each other. Martha was the absolute wish of every man. Her beauty got into her head and she became promiscuous." "As various events unfolded, one of the them was that she got pregnant. At this time we were already in college. I got married the next year, she delivered in that same year." "Martha was afraid, afraid of going home to her parents with an illegitimate child. So she begged me to adopt her daughter. I refused at first because I felt it was unfair for her to not choose to be the mother she was supposed to be." "I was of the opinion that she tell her parents the truth and stomach whatever consequences came with her promiscuous actions. Because I had always warned her." "After she persisted, I had to adopt her daughter, the little is all grown now, and you are that little girl, my dear. I always had this fear, that one day Martha would show up and take you away from me." "We've bonded over the years, you've become more than a daughter, we've become friends. I'm pained, I have to be sincere. But I can't deny you the chance of meeting the woman who birthed you." "Well, you said that right. That's all she is to me! The woman that birthed me! She's not my mother! It's takes more than birthing a child to be a mother!" I screamed, in tears. "Being a mother is sacrifice! Being a mother is knowing that things wouldn't always go your way! If she hadn't wanted to be and do all these, then she should have just shut her legs up!" I continued, as the tears kept pouring down my face. "She was young and naive. It was just a case of a young lady, doing what she knew best at the time. I wouldn't and shouldn't speak ill of my friend no matter what." "So that's all you need to know. Forgive and accept her. But also know that you would always remain my daughter, no matter what." She added, as tears trickled down her face. Indeed it was an evening of tears, we held each other in warm embrace. Just then, I received a call from another unknown number. "Hello, who's on the line?"
