Mates Don't Love

WARNING THERE WILL BE TRIGGERS IN THIS BOOK.  I AM NOT POSTING THEM IN ADVANCE IF YOU CONTINUE TO READ THAT IS YOUR CHOICE. Lucia’s POV It was my eighteenth birthday.  I got my wolf today and if I was lucky, I would find my mate as well.  My best friend Emily found her mate on her birthday two weeks ago and it was of all people my brother Lucian.  I was happy for them I couldn’t wait to get the kind of happiness that they had.  Next week my father was going to hand over the Alpha title to my brother because he had finally gotten his mate.  I was making my way through the guests at my party when the most wonderful smell hit my senses.  It was calming yet invigorating at the same time.  It made me smile and made me feel things somewhere else as well.  I didn’t know where it was coming from exactly, so I started to look around the party.  Soon enough my eyes contacted Brian my brother’s Beta, and he seemed to have a look of shock on his face.  He made his way over to me in a hurry and grabbed me in his arms.  I felt him breath in deeply and then he pulled away.  He was scowling at me, and I couldn’t understand why.  His scent was intoxicating to me and from what I had been told my mate would feel the same way.  Why was he looking at me like that?  He pushed me away and said “Lucia don’t tell anyone we are mates just yet.  I want to get to know you better.  Can we please meet in one hour by the lake?”  I just nodded my head.  If my mate had asked me to walk naked through fire at this moment I would have without question.  One hour couldn’t come quick enough. Brian’s POV I was making out with my current girlfriend when I was hit with the smell of pumpkin and cinnamon.  It was the most intoxicating smell ever.  My wolf was dancing around in my head screaming “Mate, mate we need to find her she’s here.”  I couldn’t believe it my mate was here.  I started to search around the party to find her I couldn’t wait to meet my future.  Then I locked eyes on Lucia and my wolf howled.  “That’s her that our mate.”  I couldn’t believe my dumb luck.  Lucia was not an average wolf she was a little nerdy and quite frankly fat in my opinion.  I didn’t want to be mated to her, but I had to be sure of something.  I walked over to her and engulfed her in my arms.  I felt her melt into me the moment we touched, and I knew she felt the bond as well.  I breathed in her scent and taken back at how intoxicating she was.  I was not going to be mated to someone as ugly as she was, I don’t care if she was an alpha’s daughter and the sister to the future alpha who was also my best friend.  I was going to have to do away with her.  If my mate didn’t show up or died, then I could take on another mate without worry of someone coming from out of nowhere killing my mate choice or forcing me to give her up.  I wanted Linda the girl I was just with.  She had rejected her mate, but I wanted to see who fate would bring to me before fully making her my mate.  Turns out fate dealt me with a blow.  I had to get rid of Lucia somehow and I knew just how.  I would tell her not to tell anyone about us and have her meet me by the lake.  We had been having problems with rogues down by the lake so if she wondered down there nobody would think to look in pack for her attacker.  I would beat her to death down there and nobody would know.  I would announce Linda as my mate after Lucian’s rise to Alpha and that would be that.  Nobody would be the wiser and I would not be fated to that ugly girl.  Hell, I would be doing the pack a favor if I killed her as she would no longer be bringing down everyone with her looks.  I told Lucia to meet me by the lake in one hour. That would give me time to get Linda home and f**k her unconsciousness therefore solidifying my alibi. Lucia’s POV I couldn’t be happier I found my mate. I would be lucky enough to have my mate with me when I shifted for the first time.  I had been told that those that have their mates when they shift for the first time have it a lot easier.  Their mate is able to keep them calm during the process.  I was going to be with my mate down by the lake and from this day forward my life would be blessed.  Who knows maybe after I shift, we will mark each other and then let the world know that we belong together?  I certainly hope that my brother will be as accepting of me being mated to his best friend as I was with his mate being my best friend.  An hour later my party was still going on, but I was making my way down to the lake.  My mother stopped me “Lucia just where do you think you are going?”  I smiled at her and said, “to the lake mother where I am going to meet up with my mate.”  Her eyes glowed with happiness at hearing that her daughter had found her mate and on her birthday at that.  But then she was overcome with worry.  “Who is this mate and why down by the lake my dear?  You know we have been having problems with rogues down there.  Will your mate be able to protect you?’  I laughed at her over protectiveness and assured her my mate was a strong wolf and would be able to protect me from a few rogues.  She smiled and congratulated me as I skipped happily away.  I couldn’t help but wonder what my wolf would look like.  I knew that Brian’s wolf was a smoky grey color and he had golden eyes with flecks of green in them.  He had a white diamond on his chest that made him look regal.  I only hoped my wolf would be just as magnificent.  As I was approaching the lake, I caught his scent once again and knew he was already there.  I ran to him excited to finally be with my mate.  As I approached him, I saw his body stiffen and then he turned around.  At first, I didn’t notice the look on his face I was just excited he recognized me as I did him.  But then when my eyes caught his I noticed a look of contempt on his face.  I was bewildered as to why he was looking this way and started to approach him.  I reached my hand up to smooth the scowl on his face when he suddenly spat at me and pushed me away with all his might.  I started to cry because I didn’t think my mate would ever look at me like that or hurt me.  Everyone had always told me that your destined mate would always look at you with love and admiration.  Also, your mate would protect you even die for you if it came down to it.  I looked up at Brian and he was laughing.  “Let me tell you how this is going to go little Lucia.”  His tone was terrifying me, and I couldn’t speak. Brian’s POV I had f****d Linda so hard that she collapsed and fell asleep.  I put a pillow under arms so she would stay asleep with the illusion that I was still there lying beside her.  I quietly slipped out of my apartment and made my way down to the lake.  I wasn’t worried about the rogues as I had made an alliance with them.  I knew that pathetic excuse of a mate of mine would be here shortly.  I had no doubt she would show up because I already saw the lovesick puppy look in her eyes.  The thought of mating with her was making my stomach curl.  Then as on cue I sensed her approaching.  f**k why her goddess?  I couldn’t hide the disdain in my eyes as I looked at her.  She was smiling at me the whole time until she realized that I was scowling.  She softly approached me and started to caress my face with her hands.  The gesture was starting to get to me, so I had to break the contact to do what needed to be done.  I spit in her face and pushed her as hard as I could away from me.  She ended up falling to the ground and I could see the tears forming in her eyes.  “Let me tell you how this is going to do little Lucia.”  I told her.  She was looking at me through terrified eyes and I knew I had her attention.  “I don’t want you as a mate and I never will.  You disgust me and I hate the fact that the moon goddess has chosen you to be my destined mate.  I, Brian Lee George, future beta of the Alpine Woods Pack in Utah, reject you Lucia Marie Stuart as my mate.”  I felt a little pain go through my heart but the pain that reflected in her eyes was immense.  She looked at me and told me straight to my face “I don’t accept your rejection, and, in the morning, I will tell my family that I found my mate and who it is.  So, I will let you sleep on this, and I will see you in the morning.”  She started to get up to walk away and I was engulfed in rage.  How dare she talk to me that way.  I just started to beat her.  She was crying for help and begging me to stop but I refused.  I was not going to let this little b***h get away with disrespecting me.  If she wouldn’t accept my rejection, then she would die.  We were by the lake, and nobody would know the difference.
