Looking at the dragon that had just picked me off the street, I was hesitant to trust it. Yet something seemed so familiar about it.
"What is your name at least before I go walking to my death?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, my name is Bluegon, and you are not going to be killed. You are meant to save us all." Was his response as he began walking away from me.I was confused by the much alive dragon. Quickly scanning around the area, I decided it was safer and smarter to follow my captor. Avoiding getting smacked by its long tail, I caught up with the dragon known as Bluegon.
After a short hike, we arrived at a large pound that was filled by a lush waterfall.
Small forest sprites flew atop the water and the shrubbery that surrounded the beautiful area. I was momentarily taken back by the beauty.
Noticing Bluegon walking along the mountain wall, he disappeared behind the falling water. Walking carefully around the body of water, something large and colorful caught my eyes. It almost looked like a large fish. Ignoring the large creature, I made my way behind the falling wall of water, entering a large cave it took a moment for my eyes to adjust to the dimly lit space. Walking along the flowing grotto fireflies lit a path as if it was meant for me to follow.
Approaching a larger area, I could see Bluegon circling in the center of the large cavern. Finally laying down, his head came to rest on the side of a large throne. As his tail settled to the ground, I noticed a figure sitting in the large throne.
Approaching with caution, I was wary about what fate had in store for me.
The closer I came to Bluegon and the person he was guarding, the more I noticed the figure was a man.
Muscles could be seen through his sleeves, as well as a sculpted chest. When my eyes could finally make out his face, I froze in my steps, and a chill raced down my spine.
His face looked as if it was sculpted by angles, although he did seem to have a Stoic expression. I couldn't tell if he was brooding, or angry.
Catching sight of something approaching, the unknown man snapped his attention towards me. Capturing me with his sapphire blue eyes, I was helpless to obey his unspoken command to approach!
"So you are the one prophesised to relight the flames of dragons, and bring peace, huh,you don't look like anything special?"
His voice washed over me like silk, and although my mind was insulted by his comments, I couldn't help but feel a calm in his words.
A voice as clear as day tingled at the back of my mind.
"He will hold your heart and guide you, He is your guardian, trust in him, and your path will be made clear."
Gathering my courage as I reached the stranger, I found my voice and made sure it was heard.
"I don't know who you think you are, but I'm not playing your macho mind games. I demand to know why i am here."
Standing, the man towered over me easily, over six feet tall, I had to crain my neck to look him in the face.
His raven black hair was short on the sides, but the top was long enough to cover his eyes if left hanging in front of his face.
I had to hold my breath to keep in the squeal that wanted to escape me as he began reaching for my face.Grabbing at a lock of my hair, he twirled it around his finger as he spoke.
"I am not here to hurt you, little rider. I'm here to guide you to your destiny."
Leaning down, a shiver assailed my spine as I could feel his breath on my ear. "Please follow me, little one."
Taking my hand gingerly, he walked me through a small entrance to another section of the grand cave.
Walking down the tunnel, I could faintly see a glow from a room ahead of us. Entering the room, it was illuminated by an opening high above. In the center of the room, there was a nest. Old stones shaped like eggs lined the breeding ground.
Looking at my host, he nodded towards the nest.
" Your partner is waiting for you."
In the middle of these stone eggs, one was lit up holographic. It was vivid-multi-colored. I was mesmerized.
The voice I heard in my head moments before made itself heard again.
" Pick me up. I am here. I have been waiting for you."
Gingerly, I reached for the egg. As my hand made contact, the egg glowed brighter. Visions of people I had yet to meet and a battle yet to pass flashed through my mind. The man I met moments ago came into view. I could hear him calling my name.
I began to lose consciousness as I held the egg close to my chest. Awakening in a bed that was plush and had me feeling as if I had been lying on a cloud. The bed was carved into the cave wall itself.Looking over my new mysterious acquaintance for a moment, I thought I could see what seemed like relief in his face, in the knowledge I was awake once more.
"Ahh, finally, you are awake, I see."
"How long was I asleep for?"
"Three days."Was his rushed response.
Looking around the room, I noticed the egg I had collected sat on a red velvet pillow. It had been positioned in front fireplace that had been carved into the side of the cave wall.
"When a Dragon finds its rider, it can plant visions of future events in the mind of its rider. For some, it can cause exhaustion and fainting, You are from a rider's bloodline. Very few are given the gift of a dragon partner, and it can skip generations. You are the one everyone has been looking for."
Before I could bombard him with questions, he held his hand up to signal my silence to hear his explanation.
"Long ago, dragons were paired with humans as a way to build a bridge of trust between the species. Dragons were created as guardians, a last stand between darkness and the world of man. The riders paired to them were the dragons' way to interact with the human world without bringing panic to their presence."
"Unfortunately, as all tales go, there was one who was paired who was not worthy of the gift of a dragon.
Corrupted by the power gained by the pairing of a dragon, he became all that we fought against."
"Poisoning the minds of other riders, he created an army of those who believed they should not protect the people who counted on them but rule them instead.
Dark riders... "
