Screams from warriors filled the air, the smell of death prominent in the air. Slashing at my attacker, I took him down with just a few swings of my blade. Searching the area for my friends, just as I spotted my dearest companion. His eyes widened in horror as I exhaled sharply. Looking down a blade was sticking out of my chest as blood flowed from the wound as the blade was removed from my body. Falling to the ground, I stared at the sky filled with smoke, hearing the roars of anger coming from my friends around me. As my vision began to fail, a giant winged beast came into view, knowing I would be taken care of. I allowed myself to slip into darkness... Waking gripping for the sword that had been sticking out of my chest just moments ago. Cora stood alert, waiting to see what was attacking us. Patting her on the head. I let her know it was just a bad dream. Standing, I walked to the closet to put on training clothes. I decided to skip breakfast and go straight to training. Jogging down the maze of passages, I managed to find the training grounds. I needed to run off my dream. The sight of the blade in my chest branded itself into my mind. I have been here for months now, and this dream has come to me on more than one occasion. was it really a dream, or was it a premonition of what was to come? After a few laps, a familiar figure appeared at the start of the field. As I approached, Nicholas shrugged off his jacket and started running with me. He allowed us to run for three more laps before he finally asked me if I was ready to begin today's training. Nodding in agreement, we started our lesson the same way we had the day before with hand to hand blocking and striking. Trying to ignore the nightmare, I focused on my teacher. After an hour, I guess he could tell I was thinking about something. grabbing me, he flipped me onto my stomach and held my arm behind my back. leaning down, he spoke softly into my ear. "You are distracted again." Letting out a surprised gasp as he placed his free hand on my hip. "You relax your hip when you're distracted." Sparks of electricity tingled away at my spine to his touch. Flipping me over, he stared me down. “How many times am I going to have to tell you that distractions will get you killed?” Stuttering on my own words, I could only mutter sorry. An evil smirk took over the corners of his lips, then was gone again. He lifted me to my feet and asked if I was ready for weapons again. With a nod, he jogged to collect bows we had switched two weeks back as a way to broaden my weaponry skills. walking over to the archery course on the other side of the training grounds, He tried to ask me something, but I didn't understand what he had asked. As we went over our lesson from the day, Nicholas inquired into what had my attention. Shaking my head, I chalked it up as a bad dream that would not leave my mind while my subconscious was warning me of impending doom. After a couple of hours, we both held a bit of surprise in our expression when I walked away with no bruises this time. This time, my handsome tutor joined me in the kitchen for my lessons on caring for my dragon. Taking a moment to take in the room, I noticed it had the most modern amenities that fit seemly into the rock around it. the fireplace was lit with dragons carved within the stone ground it. "Ahh, good you here." said Anna in her usual excitement. "Today, I'm going to teach you proper diet and basic ability. Now, diet is easy, most dragons prefer fish and meat and will sometimes will forage for berries if they have a sweet tooth. As they get older, they will cook the meat to their liking before consuming it." "With how small Cora is right now, diced and sliced is better for her digestion. As she grows, so can her portion size indicating to the plates of fish. The plate for bluegon had fish sliced in fours and had three fish on his plate, whereas Cora had two fish cut into eight sections. handing them out." Anna cleared her throat to gain my attention from the eating dragons. "Now, riders have abilities that come with pairing to a dragon. With how young Cora is, we will have to start with beginners' talents, and you will gain more as she grows. To do this, you have to focus your mind on Cora and connect with her once you feel that tethered. You can hear as well as she does see as well as she does, and well, you get the picture." "Can you try to use enhanced hearing?" "Um, I can try." It was my weak response. trying to push everything from my mind, I focused on hearing like Cora. after a few moments, I groaned in irritation. it's not working. walking over to me, Nicholas took my hands. he placed them on my chest where my heart lay. Speaking in his soft voice that was deep and soothing, he told me to listen to my heart and feel it beat. "Now, feel out with your heart and match Cora's." Suddenly, I could hear two in sync heartbeats in my mind, focusing on my hearing. I could suddenly hear the waterfall that hid the entrance of the palace. opening my eyes, I was looking straight into Nick. I can hear the water. Anna squealed in excitement at my newly harnessed skill. Nicholas stood and walked out of the room. kidding my disappointment at his departure, I practiced more on using enhanced, hearing and secretly keeping tabs on Nicholas. Suddenly, I heard a voice...
