I pressed my ear against the door to hear Bane and Finn talk.
"Your kidding me right?! Your gonna listen to her?" Finn's voice went high pitched.
"She knows this better than we do Finn. We need to start somewhere." Bane said. I heard shuffling around in the room.
"I can't believe this. So how is this gonna work huh? You interrogate the whole pack like were the ones to blame."
"No. Like I said, I need to start somewhere." Bane replied.
"You promised this wouldn't affect you Bane! Now look at you!" Finn yelled then I heard a hard thud.
"This changes nothing. I'm still who I've always been. She's nothing to me." Bane growled.
"Liar. You know all to well how strong the pull is and it's getting to you." Finn said in a loud hushed voice.
"You know I will do anything to protect my pack. Don't question my loyalty." Bane said in a low voice.
What were they talking about? The door swung open and I laid flat against the wall behind the door.
"I understand, but don't let her get in your head Bane. She's not one of us and she will never be. I'm sorry it couldn't be one of our females." I saw Finn slap Bane's back in a comforting way.
"As far as I'm concerned. I don't have one." He replied, as they walked out of the room and down the hallway. I was getting better and better sneaking around here without getting caught. I felt like a shadow no one noticed but I kinda liked it that way.
I wanted to wander this castle more without any interruptions. There was a room I had seen with maps and books that interested me. I grabbed a candle from the wall and made my way down the stairs. The room was at the very end of the stairs. It was always unlocked. I opened the door and was welcomed by a long eerie creaking of the door.
The smell of musty wood and dust filled the air. No candles were put in this room, it was completely dark. I reached into my pocket for my moonstones. I threw them up in the air. "Illuminate."
The room brightened as if there was a window above the ceiling letting the moonlight in. The room was filled with dust covered books and rusted metals but one book catch my eye. It laid on a lone table. It was the only book not covered in dust. As I laid my hand on it, I got a sickening feeling. A rush of nauseous hit me hard. I fought it back, the book had no title and was all black. I opened the first page but everything was blank. No words, no nothing.
Maybe it was just a journal but something in the back of my mind said otherwise. I decided to take it with me. I slipped the book into my coat pocket and made my way back upstairs. As I made my way upstairs holding the book close to my body I rounded the corner and ran into someone. I instantly started to scramble to get up and ran.
"Hey, Hey! Calm down there speedy." I glanced up at the owner of the voice. A man with light brown hair and soft brown eyes smiled warmly at me. I stood there for a second wondering why this man wasn't insulting me.
"You gonna stare at me all day or can I have your name." He said as he chuckled. I narrowed my eyes on him, then scanned him up and down. He wore a loose white shirt that showed a bit of his chest and loose fit brown pants with dark brown boots.
"It's Lucia, Lucia Alba." I said as I stood up cautiously taking his hand.
"Oh, so your the Moon Castor everyone's been talking about." He said
I narrowed my eye's on him again."Okay, not be a b***h but why the hell are you being nice to me. All of the pack hate me."
He started to scratch his neck. "Well to be honest they aren't very fond of me either. I'm Gavin by the way." He said handing out his hand once again for me to shake it.
I wasn't use to someone actually having a conversation with me. Usually it was more of insults and dragging me through the mud or threatening me. This was strange.
"I guess it's kinda weird now that I think about it. Sorry I didn't mean to startle you." Gavin said as he put his hands in his pockets and looked at the ground.
He was tall but looked kind of wimpy. His collarbones showed but he had a little bit of meat on his bones. Then I noticed the marks and scars all over his arms. There was one that slashed right through his eyebrow. He was probably low ranking in the pack. Poor guy...
"I'll uh-I'll leave you alone. Nice to meet you though." He said as he started to walk away but watching him walk away made me feel bad. He slouched and his gaze was always towards the ground.
"Hey!" I said running up to him. He flinched a little when I caught up to him, which was sad to see. "I'll walk back with you." I said and his face perked up.
"Really? Thanks, but you really don't have to, I attract the wrong kind of company." He said in a deflated voice.
"Don't worry about it. So do I." I said as I smiled at him. He was a wolf but he was the first nice one I'd met here and he looked, well lonely. Others probably picked on him and I've never liked bullies. Something inside me wanted to protect him.
We walked together down the hall. My candle was going out. "Hey, wanna see something cool?" I said. Gavin's eyes widened in curiosity.
I grabbed a moonstone in my pocket, then whispered to it. It lit up the dark as we walked.
"Wow, that's a neat trick. All I can do is dig up bones." He joked. I saw him smile looking up a my hand made light.
He suddenly stopped and stared dead ahead of us."Hey, Gavin you okay?" I saw Gavin's eyes dilate.
"Run." He said.
"What?"
"RUN!" He screamed and grabbed my hand. For a wimpy looking guy he could sprint. I glanced back behind my shoulder, the black smoke engulfed my stone snuffing out the light. I felt my adrenaline kick in and match Gavin's speed.
"What the hell is that?!" I screamed. My heart was pounding hard, hurting my chest. "Gavin what's going on!?"
"I don't know! I just sensed it's presences." He said.
I looked back again, the black smoke looked like it was consuming everything in its path. We had to get out of it's way or we would be next. I started scanning for any rooms close to us.
"Over here!" I pulled Gavin with me into what I thought was a room but ended up being closet full of pots and pans. As I shut the door I could hear the black smoke pass us. It sounded like a storm with heavy wind pounding on the door. Then it passed us.
I could feel my chest pumping up and down. Gavin was trembling, his eye's looked like they were bulging out of his head. "H-Have you ever seen that before?"
Gavin shook his head violently. "No."
My hand subconsciously went to the black book in my pocket. I pulled it out and flipped through the pages. I saw a faint gather of words, on one of its pages...
"Every source of light, fades away at Midnight."
Gavin leaned over next to me. "What is that?"
"I-I don't know it just appeared. There was nothing in it when I grabbed it." I said my heart quickened at this new found writing. My stomach felt nauseous again. What ever this book was, it wasn't good.
