Of course, I would have rather had Charlie talk to Rudy on her own, but I knew how scared she was. That was why I agreed to do what she asked of me. Still, I wasn’t the most comfortable with Rudy. He seemed like a sweet boy at first, but as I got to know him, my instincts were telling me otherwise. I hoped I was wrong.
Jordan and Amber came to see us upstairs. They dragged us back down to the main floor to have a conversation with us.
"You two are going to have to be nicer to the guys," Amber said.
"Rudy said he still wants to date me! How can I be nicer to that?” Charlie defended herself.
“It’s not going to be easy, but we don’t want things to be awkward between us. Quinn and Hakim are having this same conversation with Rudy and Gavyn. It’s not only on you, we get that, but you also have to put in the work,” Jordan said.
“Fine, but if Gavyn and Melody do anything in front of me ever again, I can't promise anything," I said.
“Noah,” Amber warned.
“Come on, it’s gross!”
“You’re gross, and we still tolerate you,” Jordan said.
“We are not gross!” I mocked offence, “We are the cutest couple and you know it!”
As I spoke, Charlie leaned in and gave me a big, sloppy kiss on the cheek, emphasizing our supposed grossness. Mocking disgust, I wiped my face against her sleeve. Charlie cackled before giving me a real kiss on the lips. Amber wolf whistled. At her prompt, we deepened our kiss. Jordan pretended to gag.
Our families came down the stairs then. Rowan threw his sweater at me as Jasper begged us to stop, not wanting to see her older sister so intimate with someone else. Charlie laughed at this. I couldn’t help but laugh along with her. Jordan thanked Jasper for arriving. Clarke came running into Charlie’s lap.
“We’re leaving now, Charlie,” she said.
“Where are you going?” Charlie asked.
“Home!”
“I thought this was your home,” I said.
“The seven of us are headed back to Miami for a little while,” Charlie’s mom interjected.
“How come?” I asked.
“Just to tie up some loose ends back there that we missed in moving over so quickly,” Charlie’s father explained, “We’ll be back before you know it.”
“When are you leaving?” Amber asked.
“Right about now, actually,” my mother said.
I noticed their suitcases as we exchanged goodbyes. I was going to miss them, of course, but I was also excited for the five of us to have the house to ourselves. We were going to have a blast.
As they left, Hakim, Quinn, and Rudy walked up to the front door.
“Gavyn and Melody took over the hotel room, and we forgot Erys,” Quinn explained before we could even asked.
Charlie and I exchanged looks. I could tell she wanted me to talk to Rudy as soon as possible. I sighed to myself. I wasn’t ready to do this, but I knew that the sooner it was done the better. I asked Rudy to follow me into my bedroom. He came cautiously. Charlie seemed relieved, while Amber and Jordan looked frightened. I did my best to assure them with a glance that I had no malintent before heading upstairs. I shut the door behind us.
“What;s going on?” Rudy asked.
“It’s about Charlie.”
“Go on.”
“Charlie thinks she's pregnant with your baby. I'm going to take her to the doctor to make sure it's not a false alarm, but we would both really appreciate it if you didn't get mad about it or anything."
Quietly, he nodded. He seemed to think for a moment. I let him take his time to process the news.
“I have something I’d like to tell you, actually,” he said.
“Sure, go ahead.”
Rudy pressed his lips hard against mine. He kissed me violently and with purpose; nothing like when I kissed Charlie, or even Gavyn. I didn't stop him. He pushed me against the wall and even if I had tried, I wouldn't be able to escape his kiss because he was holding my wrists firmly against the wall. After a few moments, I managed to knee him in the crotch. Rudy doubled over in pain.
"No doing that again. If you hadn't guessed I'm dating Charlie, not you," I said.
"Fine, I'll text her tonight," he said, then walked out of the room.
Had I just cheated on Charlie?
