Hopefully, my text to Charlie would be enough to warn her. Noah had just barged into our room and said that she wouldn't leave until she talked to her, so I decided to give them their space and go downstairs. I didn’t need to be involved any more than I already was.
"Good morning Maia," Amber greeted me as I entered the kitchen.
"What's wrong?" Jordan asked.
"Nothing really, it's just that Charlie and Noah are in my room, probably fighting," I told them.
As if to prove my point, loud stomping resonated from the floorboards, followed by the slam of a door. There was more stomping, then the slam of another door. After a few moments of silence, Charlie tiptoed downstairs and sat on the couch quietly. I gave the others a questioning look before deciding to approach Charlie.
"Come on, let's go to the kitchen and have some breakfast," I suggested.
“Do I have to tell the girls?" Charlie asked.
"I think it would be best," I told her.
She nodded slowly.
“Charlie needs to talk to us,” I said as we walked into the kitchen..
"Please don't hate me for this, but when I saw Noah and Rudy kissing, I cut myself," she confessed as she showed us her wrist.
My heart felt like it dropped when I saw it, and I pulled her into a tight hug, causing Amber and Jordan to join us. To see Charlie in so much pain that she literally hurt herself to get through her emotional pain was overwhelmingly saddening.
Noah entered the kitchen as the four of us let go of each other. She looked uncomfortable. Jordan and Amber clearly knew not to make any comments about Charlie’s self harm in front of Noah. Instead, Amber went to serve us breakfast as Jordan and I sat at the table. Charlie and Noah joined us at the table at opposite ends. We ate in silence.
"Our recording time starts on Monday, so in two days," I broke the silence.
They nodded in reply.
We continued on in silence until everyone was done eating. I cornered Amber by the sink and began to help her do the dishes as the other three girls scattered.
"I really want to plan something for Charlie. I really want to make her smile. Can you help me plan it?" I asked.
“Of course," Amber smiled.
As we did some chores, we planned something simple and fun to make Charlie smile. I was excited to enact the plan. I appreciated Amber’s help greatly. As we finished discussing it, Jordan and Noah joined us back in the kitchen and invited us out to eat sushi. We agreed eagerly, so Noah hurried to her room to get ready.
"We should invite Charlie, right?" Jordan asked.
"Well won't it be awkward with Noah there?" I questioned.
"We can't just leave her alone," Jordan countered.
"I wish I knew what to do. I mean, both Charlie and Noah are our best friends; our sisters even," Amber sighed.
"They need to work this out somehow," Jordan said.
"How?" I asked, “Charlie refuses to speak to Noah. If they’re going to solve it, they both have to be willing.”
“Why don’t you go out with Charlie now, and I’ll head to sushi with you and Noah?” Amber suggested.
Jordan and I agreed.
“Have fun on your date,” Amber winked at me.
“Date?” I questioned.
"Call it what you want, but I think you like Charlie," she shrugged.
"That's like saying you like Noah," I rolled my eyes as Jordan giggled at our interaction.
Noah came back downstairs, ready to go, thankfully not having heard a word we said. She, Amber, and Jordan made their way out the door as Charlie descended the staircase. I told her to go get ready, as I had plans for her. She followed my command and went to get ready. I did so as well then we headed to the mall. I had decided with Amber that shopping would probably be the best thing to make her forget about Noah. I also decided to buy her anything she wanted, especially food, to make her smile.
"Gosh, Maia, you're being so sweet," Charlie told me with an adorable smile as I bought her French fries after a long day of shopping, "Thank you so much for today, I'm so glad to have a friend like you.”
I smiled as I looked into her beautiful eyes. I began to get lost in their beauty as I asked myself: had I started to develop feelings for Camila?
