3 Give Me My Freedom

1514 Words
"I... don't...," Emily struggled to squeeze out a response from her throat, her face turning red, and her breathing becoming increasingly difficult. She tightly held onto Edward's wrist, but soon found herself losing strength. This man was simply too powerful. "You better keep this secret, or else you'll have a gruesome death!" Emily weakly nodded, her last bit of strength depleted. Only then did he release his grip. She coughed for a long while, tears filling her eyes, looking quite pitiful. But she couldn't lose her pride. "I can keep the secret, but it's on one condition." Emily wiped her face hastily, trying to regain her composure. "What condition?" "Give me my freedom. I want to leave this place." Edward raised an eyebrow, seemingly caught off guard by Emily's words. After all, just last night, he felt a deep connection with this woman's body. Emily, in a disheveled state, looked back at him defiantly, and Edward felt intrigued by her resilience. He nodded and replied, "Fine. When the time is right, I will give you the divorce agreement. But in the meantime, you must cooperate with me." "Deal!" Just as they reached an agreement, urgent knocking sounded at the door. Edward gave Emily a glance, and she immediately got up, wrapped herself in a coat, and hurried to the door. When the door opened, Elizabeth was standing there. "Madam, is there something you need?" Emily asked. "Remember to give Edward his medication. It's in the drawer. Follow the instructions," Elizabeth instructed Emily impatiently, as if giving orders to a maid. After she finished speaking, she glanced instinctively into the room. Emily followed her gaze and looked inside. Edward was already lying in bed, motionless like the vegetative patient from before, with no hint of a flaw in his act. He disguised himself so well! If it weren't for the physical reminders of their intense lovemaking, she would almost think it was all her imagination. ... The next day, Emily was awakened by a knock at the door. She hurried down stairs. As soon as she reached the first floor, Elizabeth looked at the disheveled Emily with disdain. "You're getting up so late? Hurry up and tidy yourself. Dr. Rand will be here to examine Edward at ten o'clock." "Lizzy, it's Emily's first time in our house. Don't be so harsh on her," a refined gentleman spoke up. Emily looked at Eddie Miller, Edward's father. He appeared to be around forty years old, quite young, with facial features strikingly similar to Edward's but lacking the intimidating aura. His amiable demeanor made her relax a bit. "I'm doing this for Edward's sake. Who knows if she did anything to my son last night!" Elizabeth huffed, her face filled with displeasure. Elizabeth's distrust and questioning left Emily speechless for a moment. Eddie glanced at Emily and gently patted Elizabeth's hand, soothing her emotions. He said in a soft voice, "Emily, I need to talk to you. Come with me to the study." Emily nodded and followed behind Eddie. As soon as they entered the study, a pleasant fragrance greeted them. The walls on one side of the study were lined with classical books, while the wall behind the desk displayed a photo of Andy Miller, the head of the Miller family and Edward's grandfather. Eddie pointed to the sofa in front, gesturing for Emily to sit down, indicating that he had something to discuss with her. "Mr. Miller, may I ask what you need from me?" Emily inquired. "You and Edward are already married, so you should call me Dad," Eddie corrected Emily's address, not getting straight to the point. Apparently, within the Miller family, only he truly regarded Emily as Edward's wife. Feeling a bit uneasy, Emily reluctantly spoke, saying, "Dad." She had never called anyone by that title since she was born. Now, under Eddie's gaze, she had to utter those words, but she couldn't hide her inner awkwardness. Eddie sensed Emily's unease and assumed she was reluctant to acknowledge the marriage. He tried to comfort her, saying, "Emily, I know marrying Edward has truly put you in a difficult position. After all, with his condition, how many women would willingly marry him? But since you have joined our family, I won't mistreat you. If there's anything you need in the future, just ask." Emily was about to respond, but Eddie continued speaking. "Also, I'm not an old stubborn man. You can also call me Eddie if you are not accustomed to the word 'dad'. You're a young girl in the prime of your life, and I don't want you to waste it on my son. So, if you want to remarry in the future, I won't stop you. However, the condition is that you must stay in the Miller family for at least three years. After three years, I will grant you freedom and provide you with generous compensation. How does that sound?" Emily was taken aback by Eddie's unexpected attitude. Compared to Elizabeth's disdain and condescension, Eddie appeared much more understanding and discussed this matter with her in a consultative tone. For the first time since entering the Miller family, Emily felt respected by someone. She was deeply grateful. However, now that Edward had awakened, she could leave with dignity once he let go. Emily left the study and returned to the bedroom door. Louis Rand was Edward's attending physician, who examined him almost every day. It had become a daily routine for the Miller family. However, he had a rule that no one was allowed to disturb him during the examination. At the moment, there were several people standing in front of the door, with Elizabeth pacing anxiously at the forefront. Emily was curious. Could it be that there was something secretive going on? Otherwise, why would a simple checkup require the door to be closed and no one allowed to observe? Inside the bedroom, Louis stood at the door, confirmed the situation, and smiled. He informed Edward, who was lying in bed pretending to be a vegetable, "There's no one here." Edward sat up and leaned against the bed. "Aren't you tired of this? When are you going to let everyone know that you're awake? I'm tired of coming here every day to greet you," Louis said, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. Edward glanced at the calendar and gave a vague answer, "It's getting close. By the way, what's the latest move from the Deno Group?" Louis became interested when this was brought up. "You hit the nail on the head. Ever since you became a vegetable, Quill has become the hot candidate for the Deno Group. Grandpa Andy even plans to appoint him as the CEO at the upcoming product launch event. Edward, are you really willing to see Quill in the CEO position?" Edward's face instantly darkened, and he let out a cold snort. "Absolutely not! I suspect that the car accident three years ago is connected to Quill." Raising an eyebrow, Louis asked, "So, what's your plan? Tell me quickly." The two of them discussed for a while, and the more Louis listened, the more excited he became. His eyes sparkled, and he couldn't help but praise, "It's a perfect plan. It would be a fatal blow to Quill! Just imagine the expressions on their faces when a coma patient who has been unconscious for three years suddenly appears in front of everyone! Edward, I can't wait!" In contrast to Louis' excitement, Edward, as the mastermind behind the entire plan, seemed incredibly indifferent. However, his indifference didn't dampen Louis' enthusiasm. Edward thought of something and intentionally raised an eyebrow to tease him. "I heard that your grandfather believed in the Gypsy woman's words and actually arranged a marriage for you. I took a glance just now, and she's a curvaceous beauty. Tsk tsk, and here you are, a vegetative patient, enjoying such good fortune." Upon hearing this, Edward's expression noticeably cooled. He didn't like discussing Emily with other men and interrupted Louis abruptly, "Shut up!" Although Louis was right, Emily did have some beauty and a good figure. Last night, they had a passionate night, and their chemistry in bed was perfect, satisfying Edward to the fullest. "What I mean is, that woman will be sharing your bed from now on, and it's inevitable that she'll discover your secret." Seeing Edward's displeasure, Louis quickly became serious. Edward shrugged it off. "She already found out last night." "What?! You've kept this secret for so long, and you told her on the first day? You know nothing about her. Aren't you afraid she'll leak it? Edward, you must be crazy!" "I'm not crazy." However, Edward didn't know why he lost control last night. When he heard Emily say he was impotent, he was instantly provoked, and they ended up being intimate. Especially watching her move and sway on top of him, even a person as restrained as him lost control. Edward wasn't a shallow person, but he didn't understand the reason behind his loss of control.
