3 - Afternoon and School

1088 Words
She arrived at her classroom just before the teacher does. Her seat was at the center. She sat as their homeroom teacher came in. "Barely safe, Elaine," her teacher greeted her with a smile, "You rarely go to school early, always coming in before me." She joked and the whole class chuckled. Elaine always come in before their homeroom teacher and because of that her classmates and teacher always makes fun of her. She scratched her temple before sitting at her chair. She was not the popular type, but she still has a few friends. She felt a tap on her shoulder and saw their class president smiling at her. "Good morning." He whispered, but the ones sitting near them also heard it. "Hey, President! It's too early for that!" Shouted Josie Howard, one of Elaine's close friends. "You didn't even greet us when we came in." Complained Isla Lopez, also a close friend of Elaine. The three of them was known to be the nerdy trio of their class because ever since the first day of class they were inseparable and always scored the highest grades. Elaine reddened at her friends comments and smiled awkwardly at Kace, their class president, and greeted him back. His smile widened. "Class President, aren't you going to greet your teacher, too?" Their teacher joined the conversation. She stood in front, all of her things for class were already prepared. Kace Monroe chuckled and stood and the rest of the class imitated him. "Please teach us today as well, Teacher." Kace announced and followed by the entire class. "Alright, you may all sit. Next time greet me first, you're making me feel jealous of Elaine." She acted as if she were jealous and made the class laugh. Their homeroom teacher soon started the class. As time passed by their lunch break came. Elaine, Isla, Josie and Kace went to their usual eating spot. Only then did Elaine remembered that she doesn't have packed lunch. Damien always gives her a lunch box, but because she ran off earlier Damien didn't have the time to give it. Kace noticed that she wasn't eating anything. "Why aren't you eating?" Kace asked. "I forgot my lunch." Elaine simply answered. "I really hate how this school doesn't have any cafeteria." Josie grunted. "There's nothing we can do about it. The island is small and not many people lives here, they prefer to live at the mainland." Isla explained. "Well, who would like to live in this haunted island? Hey, I heard that the main land has so many different shops and tall buildings!" Josie exclaimed. "And thousands of handsome men!" Isla added making Elaine chuckle. "Why are you looking for handsome men when you have me?" Kace pouted. "That's not a funny joke, Kace." Josie said while Isla nodded in agreement. "Waa--, what?!" Kace shouted. "Come on you two. Kace is handsome, too." Elaine said and made Kace blushed. Isla and Josie raised their brows while looking at Kace's reddened face and switched too Elaine who opened a book. "Elaine," Isla called. "Hmm?" Elaine hummed, her eyes glued to her book. "why are you so dense?" Isla continued. Elaine gazed up at her with wide eyes. "I'm not." She defended. Isla and Josie stared at each other at their friend's defensive words and just sighed. They continued eating while Elaine continued reading. Kace sometimes tries to give her food, but was rejected every time. "Well, well. Look who's here." Josie's face hardened upon hearing the voice, while Isla became anxious and Kace stood. "The trio spending time with our precious class president... as always." Violet Neils, the number one it-girl in their class, said. Beside her was Rio Hudson, Violet's subordinate. Josie was offended by Violet's tone and was about to stand when Elaine held her arm and shook her head. She stood up and faced Violet with a smile which made Violet's face wrinkled. "Do you want to join us?" Elaine asked. "What?! Who would want to join a pack of freaks?" Violet exclaimed and looked at Kace. "Of course, not you, president." She smiled sweetly, but no one knew what was hiding behind that smile. "Oh, my god. Violet, look there!" Rio tapped Violet's arm and secretly pointed at their left. Violet turned her head and her eyes shined in an instant as she fixed her hair and clothes in small movements before waving to the direction Rio pointed at. Zayd Lennon, their class' quiet yet hot guy stood not too far from their right while staring at them. He glanced at Violet who was waving at him for a few seconds before walking away. Although, Violet didn't receive a response from Zayd she still happily smiled. "Let's go, Rio." Violet said, her mood took a hundred and eighty turn and she walked away with Rio following her from behind. Elaine sighed and sat back down. Isla and Josie was staring at her with blank faces while Kace stared at the place where Zayd disappeared to. A couple of more hours and school was over. Just like Elaine's usual routine after the school bell ringed she said goodbye to her friends and went home. She didn't stop by Twilight Bistro like how she usually do for the memory of what happened in the morning was still fresh from her mind and there is also another reason why she didn't bother stopping anywhere. She wanted to know if her father had confirmed the thing they talked about before she went to Twilight. She jogged at the path leading to their house and soon arrived after a few minutes. She opened the front door and called her father. But no one answered. She changed into a white tee and jeans and wore a pair of black sneackers. She looked for her father inside, but found no one. She decided to go in the warehouse just beside their home and look for her father there. Just as she got out she caught sight of her father standing outside the warehouse wearing a solemn expression. She approached him and stood right in front of him. She confirmed the thing just by looking at his father's face. "There is one." She stated, her father nodded his head and pushed a sword in her. She wasn't able to see it earlier because her father's body covered it. "It's at the river in the south." Milo informed. Elaine took the sword from her father's hands and drifted to the location Milo mentioned.
