Chapter 9: Tree House

Nickoli was driving rather slowly in a car like this. What's the reason for me having on the seatbelt if he wants to be so cautious right now? I thought to myself. I sighed. It will be a long drive to school. We are probably late. I looked out the window just admiring this place. I have to say, even though I didn't want to come here, England is really a beautiful place.    From the corner of my eyes, I could see Nickoli looking at me. I could feel my face getting hot for some apparent reason. I cleared my throat and looked away. "I really want to stay alive, so can you look at the road please?" I said. He looked away as soon as I said that and I swear I saw him blush. I giggled.    "What's so funny?" He asked, smiling. I laughed.    "You blushed." I teased. He shook his head.    "I don't know what you’re talking about." He said, playing innocent. I smiled.    "You do know that we're late for school, right?" I asked him. He shrugged.    "Let’s not go to school today." I looked at him confused.    "Why? Don't you think it would be a little weird? Both of us aren't in school when Jessica is probably waiting for me," I said. He stopped the car and looked at me.    "Do you really want Jessica to rule your life? Live a little." He said, watching me intently. I looked at him unsure.    "I don't know.." I said, trailing off.    "Come on. What she doesn't know can't hurt her." He pleaded. Why do his eyes have to be so alluring? I sighed and nodded.    "Okay." He smiled widely at me and started the car again.    "What's with you and the smiling lately?" I asked. He's been smiling around me a lot and I just want to know if he's feeling okay.    "What? I can't smile around you?" He asked. I laughed.    "I didn't mean it like that."   We drove in silence for about 30 minutes. To say that I was nervous was an understatement. I have never skipped school before, let alone with a boy I know nothing about and who I promised a friend I would stay away from.    "Where exactly are we going?" I asked.    "You'll just have to see and find out." He said with a smirk. I'm not sure exactly what I find myself doing with Nickoli, but being close to him just makes me happier than I usually am being away from him. Nickoli soon stopped and I looked around. All that could be seen were trees.    "Where are we?" I asked.    "Come. I want to show you something," Nickoli said to me. He got out of the car and came to my side, opening the door. I got out and he led me into the forest.    "Uh, the woods?" I asked, confused.  He took my hand and led me into the woods. We walked for about five minutes and we were by a lake with a tree house. I smiled. "Don't tell me that this is yours." I said, looking at him.    "What? You don't think it can be?" He asked, pushing me lightly. I giggled. I seem to be doing that a lot.    "Why are we here?" I asked, looking at the tree house.    "My dad and I built this when I was little. I come here when I'm having a tough time," he said. I was confused.    "Then why do you want to share it with me?" I asked.    "I hope one day it will mean a lot to you as it does to me." He said, looking at me. "Come on." We climbed up the tree house and went inside.    "Hmm, so, the big bad boy has a treehouse." I said, looking around. He laughed.    "Not everyone has the right impression of me." He said, sitting down. I followed suit and put my knees up to my chest.    "And why is that?" I asked.    "Not everyone knows everything about me and for them to believe it just pisses me off." He said, looking straight at me.    "I have a feeling this is about me," I said. He chuckled.    "Why do you believe everything Jessica says? She may be my sister, but she's a pain in the ass sometimes." He said with a slight smile. I shrugged.    "I guess because she's my first friend here, I thought I owe her something at least." I said, embarrassed.    "You know I'm not really a bad guy," Nickoli said. I nodded and sighed.    "I know that now," I said. I glanced at him and he had his head down. "What's wrong?" I asked, concerned. He looked up at me.    "It’s nothing," he said. I gave him 'the look' and he sighed. "I'm fine really. So tell me about yourself." I shook my head, knowing that he was trying to change the subject.    "There's not much to tell. I moved here from New York," I said.   Nickoli chuckled. "How about I ask the questions?" He suggested. I smiled and nodded. "What's your favorite color?" He asked. I looked at him blankly.    "That's your question? Really?"    "Just answer the question. It might come in handy later on." He said, laughing.    "Green and baby blue." He nodded.    "I like red."    We asked questions back and forth for probably the whole time there. I didn't feel bored, not even once.   ***   Nickoli was lying down on my lap. My hands were in his hair. I love his hair. It was jet black and it felt so soft between my fingers. It reminded me of the wolf again. Why did I always compare this boy to the wolf I happened to be fond of? Of course, I have no idea, but every time I look at him there's always something new I find about him that relates to the wolf.    I wonder what time it is. I checked my phone that was next to me and it read 2:30. What?! I have to get to the cafe in 30 minutes. Yeah, I got the job when I talked to the manager.    "I have to go." I said to Nickoli.    "Why? What happened?" He asked worriedly.    "No, nothing. I just have to get to work in 30 minutes," I said.    "Okay then, let's go.” He got up from my lap and helped me up. We climbed down the tree house and walked back to his car.   Once we got back to the car, he climbed in and we sped off to the cafe. It didn't take long for us to get there, seeing that he drove like a mad man.    "Geesh you could've killed me!" I exclaimed, holding my heart.    "I would never let that happen to you." He said with a little hurt in his eyes. I tilted my head to the side and looked away from him. Opening the door to the car, I got out. I looked back at Nickoli.    "Thanks Nickoli. For today. I had fun" I said. His face lit up.    "No problem. Maybe we could do it again," he said. I nodded.    "I'd like that." I closed the door and walked up to the cafe's entrance. Taking one last look at Nickoli, he winked at me before speeding off. I smiled to myself and walked into the cafe only to receive a glare coming my way from none other than Jessica.   I didn't even care. Right now, nothing can kill my mood, all thanks to a certain guy who showed me a different side to him that no one knows about.    Maybe he's not so bad after all.
