Selene shivers as the cold breeze brushes up against her bare neck. She was only wearing a sky blue tube-like dress that reached her feet, and she had forgotten to put on a jacket. Her black hair cascades freely in waves down to her back, which was tied into a ponytail a few minutes ago.
Selene was sitting in her usual spot, weaving some clothing while humming her favorite melody that somehow helped her deal with her ennui. She wanted to see her cousin in the other realm, but she couldn't utilize teleportation, and it would take her days to get there.
"Selene!"
Selene turned her back to the person who called her as she paused from what she was doing earlier and saw Ylla advancing to her post.
"Have you heard the news?"
She raised her brows and plastered a puzzled expression as she had no idea what Ylla was talking about at the moment.
"Litia heard that the moon goddess already found your mate," Ylla spoke while clapping her hands in joy.
Selene put down the clothes she was weaving earlier, and with wide eyes, she glanced back at Ylla. Is she kidding? She doesn't want to hope, but a part of her does.
It's been seven days since her mother left without informing her, so how does Litia know about it when the moon goddess hasn't returned to the palace?
"I don't want to be nosy, but..."
"Selene, my princess."
Selene turned to face the newly returned goddess, who cut off Ylla's sentence. Ylla bowed to the goddess, but her mother looked at Ylla sharply, as if she had made a big mistake. What was that look for, and what does Ylla suppose to say if she's not interrupted. Selene looks confusedly at her mother then at Ylla, who seems unrest upon the arrival of her mother.
"I'll talk to you later," her mother utter as she dismisses Ylla.
Talk about what? She was curious, but she shuts off her nosy ass as she didn't want to upset her mother. Perhaps it is a private matter.
Her mother's looked softened as she saw her, seeming a bit baffled by the scenario. They went into the palace gazebo as she went along with her mother's supervision.
"I have something to talk to you about, Princess...about your mate," her mother said tiredly. She was carrying destiny's book, which determines fated mates. However, her name wasn't written in the book, which bothered her so much before. Well, she gradually moved on as time progressed.
"I've traced down your mate..."
A piece of news that made Selene's world stop its orbit. Her mouth hung open in surprise as tears fell off her eyes unconsciously.
Her mate?
"But he's not a god, as I deemed him to be," her mother uttered with disappointment and worries in her face with each passing minute.
Selene's excited expression started to vanish--not a god? If she hadn't mated with a god, who could it be then? Angels? Demons? Witches?
"Is that even possible, mom?"
Selene was glad that she found her mate, but she was anxious as it was not like their kind.
"Perhaps it is. You're first. Never have this kind of pair happened before..." Selene's mother paused a bit like she's struggling to say the words and hasn't been able to accept her daughter's unexpected fate.
"You are mated with a werewolf,"
She unconsciously stands up, and her eyes gawk in disbelief. Werewolf? The dogs? Selene heaves a sigh after hearing the unexpected news. It was then acceptable to have a Lycan mate or perhaps hybrids. But, among all the creatures, why werewolves? Not that Selene hates werewolves, but she least expected it to have a werewolf mate.
She was well aware of how possessive werewolves can be. They are vicious and domineering, exactly like vampires, but it's not just that that scares her; it's also the fact that entering the lower realm consumes so much energy. A goddess cannot descend unless she has an energy source that can summons her.
"I know what you're thinking. That's why I have brought you this present,"
Her mother then showed her a ball-like necklace that was extraordinarily bright and surrounded by a bolt of electricity lightning.
'The energy necklace!'
Selene, on the other hand, was giving her mother a hesitant look. The energy necklace was saved millennia ago, and no one was permitted to use it for the purpose of balancing the planet and preventing goddesses from wandering around. Although reluctant by the event yet she still accepts the necklace.
"Do you want to see your mate, my princess?" the moon goddess asked Selene as she put the necklace on her daughter's neck.
Selene was a bit indecisive at the moment, and she couldn't fully digest the news, but she was interested in her mate and how he looked like, so she nodded in agreement.
The moon goddess held Selene's hand, and they teleported towards the magical mirror placed on the highest tower in the first heaven, where gods and goddesses could see what was going on in the lower dimension.
Selene's mother spoke something, and the mirror showed a man. He's tall, dark, and has an Adonis-like appearance, which Selene assumes is her mate.
"His name is Damon..."
Damon? Hmm, not bad--his name suits him well as he looks a bit evil.
Selene stared at the man as he commanded the soldiers extending his authority to the pack. Looking at his posture, he might be the pack's alpha or perhaps not--she could be wrong. The man seems astonishingly handsome, and if she didn't know that he is a werewolf, she might mistake him as a God.
"He's waiting for you," her mother added.
She looked at her mother with a worried look. "Do you think he will accept me, mother?"
Her mother gives a genuine smile as she caresses Selene's face, "He has no choice but to accept you as his Luna, or something will happen to his pack..."
"Rejecting a goddess as his Luna means accepting the fall of his pack," her mother spoke in a dangerous tone.
"I am the moon goddess, in case you forget, my princess..."
"I am the holder of their fate, and I can destroy them in just a snap of my finger...but of course, I'm very logical, and I'm not that bad," her mother gives a hearty laugh while watching her dynamic expression.
"You think so badly of me, ha? I am hurt, princess," her mother gives her a painful expression, an act that guilt-tripped her. Selene pouted her lips because of her mother's character and rolled her eyes in annoyance. The moon goddess laughs out loud as she pinches Selene's cheeks.
"Alright, I concede now. Enough of the play, but before I forgot..."
"I've created a mind link that connects you to your mate. Talk to him. I'm going now. Call me if you want to go back to your chambers. Press the bell, adios."
Selene nodded as she watched her mother dissolve into thin air. She returned her gaze to the miraculous mirror and stared at the man. Why does it feel awkward to stare at him even though they haven't met in person? It feels like she's invading his privacy or maybe because she looks like a creepy stalker.
Damon, the man's name, went for a run on the running lake, and she watched every detail of his movement, not wanting to miss a single bit.
Maybe, he wanted to swim as he started to take off his clothes. Selenes cover her eyes as her heart beats quicker at the sight; she peers a little with her hands still on her eyes. To her dismay, the man was already in the lake--the water selfishly covered every inch of his being.
"You've got one great figure," she said as the man paddled his hands in the water, but then he stopped. As he glances around, he appears bewildered. Selene realizes that he might hear her statements due to the mind link. She put her hand over her mouth and decided to connect something.
"Hi, a pleasure to meet you, Damon," Selene says, giggling as the man looks perplexed by what is going on and immediately hops off the water as he tries to scan the area, which is just solely trees and the sound of various animals.
"You know me?"
"Yes, do you know who I am?"
"Who are you?" he replied. Probably, understanding what's going on. He looks a bit annoyed. He might be thinking that someone was playing pranks on him.
"Your mate... " she paused as her voice trembled upon mentioning the word 'mate.' It seems like a foreign word to her mouth that made her both thrilled and ecstatic just by stating it.
Who would've thought that after a long journey? One lays beyond the horizon, under the trail of her wings that she forgot to keep track of.
'You have successfully hidden from me that it took me and my mother years of finding you. What a dog!'
After dealing with some unruly thoughts, Selene reclaims herself, looking upon the man whose eyes are that of an owl and whose mouth hunged open.
"See you soon."
Then Selene decided to cut the mind-link. The man became more irritated as she watched him change expression, yet there was a sliver of a sneer on his frigid face.
She looked intently at his mate's face, whose hair is untidy and where waters are dropping off, and even in a virtual aspect, she already felt peace and comfort. Maybe, that's how mate works that even from afar, you can feel the bond.
Selene touches her necklace,
'I have found you. Although we're not of the same race, I'm more than willing to accept you. But I'm kinda concerned...' she paused as her heart ached suddenly.
'I hope you'll accept me too. Because I need some saving from this wicked fate of mine'
