Chapter 2

Elena POV

My heart almost stopped beating when I heard him call the name, all the feelings of joy I had suddenly disappeared. I was a bit confused. I wanted to believe he was making a practical joke when he called the name Victoria.

“Victoria, please will you come up onto the stage? I want the Pack to see my beloved mate.” Edward said once more. I turned to see Victoria walking to the stage with a huge smile on her face.

She walked up to Edward on stage and they both of them shared a kiss. I was confused. I could not understand a thing that was happening in front of me, it looked like both of them had been together all this time.

But Edward and I felt the mate pull, he was my fated mate and I knew there was no other person in the whole wide world that I would want to be with if it was not him, but then what was happening in front of me? Why was Edward holding Victoria?

I walked closer to the stage. I wanted to know what was happening and what game Edward was playing. It must have been one of his jokes, because I knew there was no way Edward would even think of leaving me like that.

“Edward?” I called out when I was on the stage. Everyone suddenly turned their attention to me. Edward turned to me but instead of the beautiful smile he always wore when he was speaking to me, he had a stern face, and it didn't look like he was going to be playing with me.

“Edward, what is going on? You said you were going to make me your mate today, we both felt the mate pull, and you know you are my mate.” I was holding in my tears, it was hard for me to even look at him holding someone else like that.

“Are you blind? Can't you see he is with his true mate? Or do I need to beat it into you?” Victoria said, flaring her wolf’s aura. I didn't pay any attention to her, and I was looking at Edward, holding back the tears that were building up in my eyes.

“Wait darling, let me handle this. You know I have to explain to her what happened.” Edward gave Victoria a peck on her cheek, he slowly turned to me and looked me in the eye.

“I think I already made it clear that Victoria is my mate, you are lost in some kind of wonderland you made up to console yourself for being a failure and burden to the Pack.” Edward’s words came out like arrows being fired at me.

“What are you saying? You always told me that you loved me, you always said that you could not live without me. Why are you doing this?” I was on the verge of breaking down. I wanted to believe it was all a dream, that he was just joking.

“How stupid are you? I just wanted to make sure you didn't kill yourself. I was only doing all that out of pity. I felt nothing for you to get it into your head.” Edward was making it clear that there was nothing between us, my heart shattered into a million pieces.

The crowd was looking at us, by this time they were all whispering violently and I could hear them saying things.

“She really is stupid if she thinks an Alpha would choose someone that can not even shift into her wolf.”

“Yea, I know, right? She is clearly trying to force herself on him. This is downright disgraceful. I know she is shameless, but this is downright bad.”

Everyone was staring at me. I was not going to leave Edward immediately. I wanted to know why he would play with my feelings this way.

“Edward, look me in the eye and tell me that all we shared, all we did was just an illusion. Tell me that it was all a joke and tell me you never felt anything when we were together, that you felt nothing for me, tell me all those promises were fake, and it was only just for your satisfaction.” I was looking at Edward, he let go of Victoria and walked up to me. I was expecting him to give me a hug and tell me it was all a joke, but the look on his face was not the one you see on the face of anyone who was joking with you.

“Now I want you to get this into your thick skull. I never loved you and I don't see why anyone would love you. Your mere existence is disgusting, and you are like a stain on this pack.” Edward used the harshest words I have ever heard or gotten from anyone.

“What about the mate call? You can't remove whatever the moon goddess has put together. I am the one the moon goddess gave you. I know you feel it and so do I. You can not change what the moon goddess has put together.”

“It seems it has not yet dawned on you that I am serious, your puerile mind can't take a single let down? Well then, I will make sure I let you understand fully well what I mean when I say there is nothing between us.” Edward was looking at me with rage in his eyes. I knew there was going to be trouble if I didn't leave.

“Edward Valak, Son of Alpha Valak of the Verain Pack and next Alpha in line, rejects Elena Ross, daughter of the Late Beta Jacob Ross, as my mate.” Immediately he said those words I felt intense pain, my wolf was crying inside me.

I looked at Edward as I struggled to stand. I looked at Edward’s eyes and all I could see was satisfaction and the look of disgust. “Now leave my sight, you filthy animal.”

I turned from the stage and ran out of the crowd with the entire pack looking at me. There were different words coming from the crowd. “She really is a fool, how would she think that she would get to be mates with an Alpha? She has to be downright delusional to think anyone would want to be with her.”

I didn't stand to listen to anything they wanted to say. I just kept running, trying to leave it all behind. I was beyond hurt. I had been living a lie, a false life that I could never get because of my own existence.

I wanted to go to the last person I had left in this world. My mother would always welcome me with open hands. I didn't need to tell her anything happened to me.

I ran back to our cottage. The first thing I noticed was that the Alpha’s guards were there at our house. ‘What are they doing here?’ I walked into the house, they were looking at me like I was carrying something on my face.

I paid no attention to them. I was about to walk into the house, but the guards stopped me from entering, “What business do you have here?”

I looked at them in shock. I was still trying to pull myself together from what I just experienced, and now these people wouldn't even leave my own father’s house.

“I live here. I am Elena Ross.”

“That doesn't mean we are going to let you walk into the house with the Alpha here, you will wait here.”

“Why is that? Why can't I go in? What is wrong with all of you? Let me in!” I was trying to force myself in. They held me back.

“You dare try to defile our orders, Omega?!” They flared their wolf aura, it was intense. They were about to hurt me. I knew there was no one going to save me from them.

“What is happening here?”
