1. Yin-Yang
-Valkyrie's P. O. V.-
Senior year. Geez, how that time flew by. Just a few more months and I'll be finally leaving those walls for good, and I'm not sure if I should be happy or terrified. Graduation means I will have to take over as Alpha, and even though Dad has been preparing me for it my entire life, I know how hard it will be.
I proved myself time and time again, yet there will always be someone talking s**t behind my back or challenging me for my rightful place. Maybe not in my Pack, cause nobody in their right mind would challenge Val Morgan, when they saw me fighting, but I heard a lot of nasty crap from others. It is never easy for a woman in the men's world.
I left my brother Freddie in the main hall, because as a freshman he had to participate in that official greeting part, even though I already told him everything he needed to know. But anyway, spending the most boring hour of your life in that room is sort of a rite of passage for every student in Lycademy.
I went to the condo I've been sharing with my roomie for the last two years. We made some awesome memories here. Like for example a small hole in the ceiling, from when Ossy decided it would be fun to jump on our couch. Unfortunately he forgot he's seven feet tall, but still it was worth watching his head bumping through the concrete.
Or a few scratches on our hardwood floor, from when Matti was mastering her knives throwing skills. But as the Headmaster's great granddaughter she could get away with almost anything. Lucky b***h!
Or that blackened spot on the kitchen counter, from when we were making flaming shots. I don't exactly remember how this one happened, but I sure did the next morning when I was trying to clean this up. I'm more than positive that Rico came up with that idea though, he always had a thing for pyrotechnics.
Yup, a lot of great memories.
I went to my bedroom and tossed my bag on the bed, throwing myself next to it. I hate unpacking, so any kind of distraction is welcomed. So it shouldn't be surprising that as soon as I heard shuffling in the living room I ran to meet my best friend.
"Yin!" - I screamed as soon as I noticed her.
"Yang!" - she yelled back matching my enthusiasm and we threw ourselves in the tightest hug.
Those stupid nicknames we gave each other were actually pretty perfect. Matti, or should I say Matilda was my perfect other half. When I was down she was cheering me up, and I did the same when roles were reversed. We even looked like we were in perfect balance, she had dark brown hair just like her Mom's with violet eyes, while I was a mix of Cargarough's blonde hair and Morgan's icy blue eyes. Even our wolves paired up like coffee and cream, with her white fur and mine charcoal one. See, perfect balance, just like yin-yang!
"How was your summer?" - she asked when we finally broke our hug.
"Mostly boring. You know my Dad 'As a future Alpha you need to focus, Val'" - I said mimicking my Dad's voice and we both burst into laughter.
"Oh, mine is worse! 'You can't use your powers every time you want to bail on your practice, Mattie!' blah, blah, blah." - and we giggled once again, because she pretended uncle Matthew's voice perfectly. Funny story, but our Dads were actually roommates too back in the dark ages. I guess Morgans and Alistairs are meant to be close friends. Although, whenever we ask them about some fun stories they both state firmly that they were straight A students and exemplary leaders. Yeah right, the same crap every parent says! Well, except for my Mom, she's kinda proud of her adventures during her only year here. Yup, she didn't last till her graduation, because I happened. Oh well.
"Have you talked with Ossy yet? Is he here already?" - I asked, kinda missing others from our Alpha quartet. Besides Matti and I, we mostly hang out with our cousins. Mine, Vigo Cargarough, future Alpha of Surge Pack, who is actually our age and Matti's cuz Osprey Springer AKA Ossy, who's a year younger and next in line in Red Moon Pack.
We all kinda grew up together, thanks to our parents being friends and close allies. But it's not like this was actually forced on us, we just clicked like a well oiled machine. My Beta - Rico used to hang out with us too, but ever since he found his Izabel it was like sitting with a couple of algae eaters, too much PDA for my liking, especially since the rest of us are yet to find that other half.
"Nope, not yet. I wanted to see you first. Boobs before tubes, right?" - she said, extending her pinky.
"Always! Just like vanity before sanity. " - I answered, catching her pinky with mine and we both started giggling. - "Alright, so what is the plan for today? You know we need to greet the new year in some style."
"Pff, go check out the fresh meat." - Matti said in a 'Duh' tone, rolling her eyes.
"Obviously, but after that?"
"I kinda have a plan for that, but tell me did you bring that booze you were telling me over the phone?" - Matti asked, folding her arms like she knew I already screwed up.
"Yes, matter of fact I did. Three bottles in my suitcase and another three in Freddie's if Mom would go all berserk going through my stuff." - I said proudly.
"Nice! Sneaky! And I totally forgot Freddie is joining this year. How's he? Is he hot like your Dad? I haven't seen him for ages." - Matilda started rambling on.
"First of all Eww and Eww for both my father AND brother behalf, and second of all - Down b***h! My brother is a good boy, so don't go and corrupt him on his first day here." - I pointed my finger at her with a dangerous glare so that she knew I wasn't messing around - "I swear you have one dark soul for a white wolf." - Matti doubled over with laughter hearing that.
"What can I say, Lucifer was an Angel once." - she said, flipping her dark locks to emphasize her words.
"Whatever!" - I rolled my eyes - "Okay, now that I have fulfilled my end of the contract, it's your turn. What have you planned for tonight?"
"I may or may not have stolen my great grandpa's keys to the roof." - she said, wagging her brows.
"Are you kidding me?! You finally did it!"
"Yes, yes I did, thank you very much." - Matti bowed dramatically like an actor on stage - "But we have to keep it small."
"Sure, just us four would be enough for me."
"And our Mates." - I frowned at those words cause none of us had a Mate yet - "What, I have a feeling we will find them this year."
"It's kinda our last chance, or we can be the Creeps like your Father and come every year for graduation." - I pointed out.
"f**k off Morgan, you're a Creep!" - of course Daddy's Little Girl would always protect his honour. I feel sorry for her future Mate, he will have some big shoes to fill in.
"Alright, alright, don't lose your panties, if you have any on, anyway." - I snorted, rolling my eyes.
"Hey! I'm a good girl with perfectly healthy attraction to opposite s*x, you can't blame me for it." - she started whining, putting her hands on her hips.
"Wow, that's a really nice euphemism for a slut." - I mocked her. And I knew she wasn't all that bad, but she surely hasn't waited for her fated Mate.
"b***h!" - she muttered under her breath and stomped away to her bedroom. It's not that we don't like each other, actually we are like sisters, that none of us have. It's just our relationship based on tough love most of the time, but when any of us need a shoulder to cry on, the other is always close by. It's just how it is, and guys learned a long time ago to deal with our outbursts and the way we talk with each other. And it's not like they are any different. Vigo likes to be Mr 'I know everything' and for some he may seem like a Jackass, but he truly is one of the smartest people I know. Ossy on the other hand is the sweets, like a giant Teddy Bear, if you like your cuddlys to be seven feet tall. But seriously for a guy who looks like a natural born killer he has the softest heart.
I returned to my room and finally started unpacking, and I had a lot of crap to put in its rightful places. Why don't boys have the same problem?! They can go all year on a single suitcase, while we have to drag the entire wardrobe with us. Just another reason why girls have it harder.
Hmm, but maybe Mattie is right, we might actually meet our Mates today. With that though I throw on my favorite ripped jeans and black top that nicely accentuates my boobs. I leave my hair down in loose waves and finish it all with my favorite nude lipstick. Sexy but classy. Perfect in case today is THE day.
I left my room just in time Mattie was coming out of hers. She whistled seeing me.
"Damn, you look fine, Val. Oh, give me that bad boy!" - she said pointing to my lips.
"No way Jose!" - I said, shaking my head - "I know you steal my makeup, but you're not laying your hands on my lipstick."
"Geez, Morgan! You're loaded and you won't share stupid lipstick?!"
"It's not about money, but logistics. Have you seen Sephora around here?" - she rolled her eyes - "I thought so!"
"Alright, so let's go introduce Freshmen to Queens of this school." - she said, wagging her brows.
"After you Queen Alistair." - I curtsy pointing to the doors.
"Why thank you, Queen Morgan." - she mimicked my bow. We started giggling and hand in hand we went to the cafeteria.
