Profession over Family

Hindi natapos ni Alexis ang pag isa-isa sa mga pangalan kagabi dahil sa sobrang dami ay bigla siyang nabagot at ayaw niya ng gawin ito. May mga susunod pa naman na mga araw para gawin niya iyon at hindi niya kailangan igugol ang oras niya para roon. May makukuha rin siyang impormasyon tungkol sa kambal na sina Lorie at Rovie, hindi man sa ngayon pero baling araw.

Lumabas si Alexis sa banyo na nakatapis ng tuwalya ang kaniyang pang-ibabang parte at pinapatuyo ang buhok gamit ang maliit na tuwalya. Kakatapos niya lang kasing maligo dahil pupunta siya sa opisina nila. Actually, pinapapunta sila ng hepe nila dahil meron daw silang emergency meeting.

Tumunog ang cellphone ni Alexis kaya tinigil niya ang pagpapatuyo sa buhok at tinungo kung nasaan ang kaniyang cellphone upang sagutin ito. Nakita niya ang pangalan ng tatay niya na tumatawag kaya napipilitan na sinagot ni Alexis ang tawag. Knowing his father, naiirita ito agad kapag hindi nasasagot ang tawag.

“Dad,” sagot ni Alexis sa tawag ng ama at dinala ang cellphone sa tenga niya.

“How is that thing I asked you about?” tanong nga kaniyang ama. Gustong murahin ni Alexis ng ama dahil sa bungad nito sa kaniya pero pinigilan niya ang sarili.

“I’m still working on it, dad. I’ll let you know when I get it,” sagot nalang ni Alexis sa tatay niya kahit ang totoo niyan ay hindi pa naman talaga niya nagagawa.

“Oh, alright. Hope you can do it sooner.” Tugon ng kaniyang ama at pinatay ang tawag.

Ibang klase talaga ang tatay niya. Tumawag ito para tanungin siya sa pinapagawa nito at hindi man lang siya kinamusta ng magaling niyang tatay. Napapailing nalang si Alexis at nagbihis nalang. Nasa condo niya kasi siya ngayon at wala sa mansion ng tatay niya. Never talaga sila nagkasundo ng ama niya maliban nalang noong bata pa siya. Nang lumalaki kasi siya ay iba na ang pananaw niya sa buhay. Marunong na siyang hindi sumang-ayon sa ama at kuwestyonin ito.

Pagkatapos magbihis ay kumain lang ng sandwhich si Alexis at uminom ng brewed coffee bago pumunta sa opisina nila. Ginamit niya ang kaniyang motor papunta doon dahil pinagpapahinga niya muna ang kaniyang kotse sapagkat ito ang ginamit niya sa nangyaring habulan noong isang araw.

Pagdating sa opisina ay nandoon na ang lahat maliban sa kaniya. Even Yangli is there beside Chris and she has a cast in her elbow. Alexis sit down beside Yang and he asked her.

“You’re okay now?” Alexis asked Yang and he was looking at her casted arm.

“I’m fine now, brother. You don’t really think I would miss all the fun do you?” nakangiting sagot ni Yangli at itinaas ang kaniyang braso ngunit napangiwi rin dahil nakaramdam siya ng sakit.

“That’s good then. Just don’t be so careless next time and wait for us.” Pangaral ulit ni Alexis sa kaniya na inirapan naman ni Yangli.

“You’re over reacting again, brother. I’m fine and it’s just a minor injury.” Reklamo ni Yangli dahil sa ka-OAhan nito.

Hindi na umimik si Alexis ganun din naman si Yangli at maya-maya ay pumasok na ang kanilang hepe at halata ang iritasyon sa mukha nito. Mukhang pinagalitan ito ng mas nakakataas pa kaya rin siguro ito nagpatawag ng emergency meeting.

“Is everyone here already?” the chief asked all of them and he dropped the folders he’s holding in the table.

Everyone went silent and became serious. The atmosphere is very serious as well that nobody wants to make fun or goofing around. In times like this nobody should mess up and just listen carefully.

“I bet you all know why we are all here today,” panimula ng kanilang hepe at tiningnan silang lahat isa-isa.

“I don’t want to blame all of you for the failed operation last time and we have no control over it. Sometimes we get what we expect and sometimes we don’t.” the chief went off his chair and went roaming to the whole room.

“According to the superiors, there’s someone who tipped the enemy that we are there. Someone told them the details of our operation and that’s why we got sabotaged. So, I was tasked here to draw the traitor into the light. If anyone of you got something confess or share. Say it now.” The chief added to his words.

Everyone is looking at each other and nobody talks. The chief is waiting for someone to speak up but seems like there’s no one is going to say anything or confess something.

“Okay. Seems like no one has nothing to say and I hope that the traitor isn’t in my team. So, remember next time to be vigilant and extra more careful for the information we give you. Also be careful with who you talk. You are all relieved now except you, agent Clavius.” Ani ng hepe nila at bumalik sa inuupuan niya.

Kaniya-kaniyang umalis ang ibang mga agent at naiwan nalang sa loob ng opisina sina Alexis at ang chief niya.

“I know you’re wondering why I asked you to stay, agent. I have a special case for you…” pambibitin ng hepe at binigay ang isang folder kay Alexis kung saan nakalagay lahat ng impormasyon.

Alexis took the folder without saying any word and to see what is inside. Alexis immediately looked at his superior and gave him a questioning look.

“I know it’s hard to believe, agent. But the higher positions gave that order to me and asked me to assign that to you. We received a lot of reports regarding with your father’s malicious and hidden transactions,” the chief said and looked at Alexis. “You are the close one to the target and he won’t get any suspicions about it. We need to know if your father is a part of a syndicate group or not.” The chief added.

Alexis on the other hand, didn’t say anything and just listen.

“We want you to prove yourself that you’re not part of any of this, Agent. Because honestly, after doing the wrong move and call from the last operation, the superiors are starting to question and doubt your credibility.”

Alexis closed his hand and turned it into a fist then he looked straightly at his chief.

“If I do this, will I be able to prove myself and gain my innocence back?” blangko at seryosong tanong ni Alexis.

“Well, that depends in your work and performance, Agent. You need to report to me every single detail that you can gather regarding with your father. Then we will decide what to do next for you,” chief answered.

“Okay then,” Alexis agreed and stood up from his seat. “I’ll give you all the details that you need when I have one.”

They both shake their hand for formalities and left the room without saying anymore words to each other. After leaving the room and went outside. Yangli came to him and ask him how everything goes. She purposely waited for him outside.

“Anong nangyari? Anong sinabi ni chief sayo, bro?” magkakasunod na tanong ni Yangli sa kaniya.

Alexis shook his head as an answer and dismissed his friend.

“Oh, okay then,” saad ni Yangli at pinabayaan nalang muna ang kaibigan.

Alam ni Yangli na may nangyari sa loob ng opisinakung kaya ganoon nalang ang nagging mood nito ng makalabas. Siguro hindi maganda ang kinalabasan ng pag-uusap nila ng hepe kaya ganoon nalang ang naging mood nito pag-alis. Tiningnan lang ni Yang ang papaalis na kaibigan.

Agad na umalis si Alexis sa opisina nila at nagpunta sa kung saan pwede siyang makapag-isip. Ang dami na niyang iisipin, una na doon ang mistryosong tauhan ni Gustavo, ang tungkol sa kambal at ngayon dumagdag pa ang tatay niya sa iisipin niya.

Napabuntong hininga nalang si Alexis ay nagbalak nalang na uminom. Mukhang iyon lang muna ang magagawa niya sa ngayon, ang uminom dahil naiistress siya.
