Scarlett's POV
.
.
I woke up early and the noise from the roosters in our backyard alarmed me. I don't have an alarm clock as I have got used to all the noises of all the animals around the yard. I opened the window in my bedroom and smiled.
.
"Good morning, Mr. Sunshine!"
.
Stretching my arms in the air while staring at the beautiful sunrise. I am excited today because it's the first day of school and I can't wait to see Wade. I have moved from school to another school this year because of all the bullies. I don't know why they're so obsessed with me. What's in me? Why can't they like me? Oh well, I don't care!
Even though I didn't tell Dad about it, he seemed to know everything that was happening around me.
.
After a warm shower, my smile widens while fixing my school uniform. I cannot hide my smile while staring at myself in the life-size mirror. My hair is jet black and a little bit wavy halfway down to the tip. My lips are shaped like a heart and it's a cherry. I pouted and smiled crazily again. I wonder if Wade will notice me today? I hope so, and I can't wait to see him. I grabbed my bag and ran quickly downstairs.
.
"Hurry up, Scarlett! You're going to be late. Mr Jim is waiting for you," Auntie Felicita's hands were on her hips.
.
I smile while eating my breakfast. She packed my lunches and put them inside my bag. I stood up straight away after having five spoonfuls of rice and a sausage. I'm in a hurry and I can't wait.
.
"Thank you, Auntie!" I kissed her on her cheeks and I ran fast away from her.
"Don't forget to eat your lunch and finish it all!" her voice echoed.
"Yes, I will!" raising my right hand and waved at her.
.
Auntie Felicita was like a mother figure to me. She's the half-sister of my father. She has got her own love story too and it was like in one of the fairytale books that I've read, but with a not-so-happy ending. She only loved one person, but sadly that person passed away, and so Aunt Felicita lost her interest in love after that. And after Mama's death she stood and took care of me. Now, she's fifty-four-years-old and I love her so much.
.
Before I stepped into the car where Manong Jim was waiting, Papa was already at the corner. I walked faster towards him and kissed him on his cheek.
.
"Papa, I have to go. You take care."
Papa smiled and nodded. He opened the car door for me and I sat down and buckled my seatbelt.
"Jim, drive carefully, and Scarlett behave. It's your first day of school," in his baritone voice.
"Yes, Papa. I will," I smiled politely.
.
Mr. Jim then started the ignition and off we went. I fixed my hair while looking at myself in the rear-view mirror. I noticed our dog 'joggy' chasing our car. I pouted while looking at him. I was about to tell Mr Jim to stop but joggy stopped before we totally went out on the road. I felt the relief.
.
"Mr. Jim, next time, put joggy inside the cage before getting inside the car. I don't want him to go wandering around just in-case he gets lost again."
"Will do, Miss Scarlett," he smiled.
.
After ten minutes, we arrived at the campus. I smiled and waved to Mr. Jim before walking away from him. My smile widened when I saw the huge university logo of the school at the entrance. Everyone was busy, like we were late. But no, I am not late, not yet.
.
I looked at everything around me. This campus is huge and it has all the amenities that every student needs. The huge school yard with its trucks and field, plus the park has a study garden for everyone. The huge library, and, of course, every department and school level buildings are separated. The canteen was a big check for me. They have all the goodies, and delicious food for snacks and lunch. I am overwhelmed by everything around me and then finally. . . my classroom,
.
I smile when I step inside the room and they all stared at me like they've seen a ghost out of nowhere. I twinkled my eyes and then looked at each of them in the eye with my bright smile. There was no smile on their faces and that didn't worry me.
.
"Scarlett here!" with her pretty welcoming smile.
.
It was Betty. She pointed to the chair that was next to her. She waved at me and I strode closer towards her. She's sitting in the very top row away from everyone. I looked at the empty chair beside her and smiled.
.
"Do you want to sit down beside me?"
"Sure. Thank you, Betty."
.
I sat down and placed my bag behind the back of my chair. There was no one behind us because we were in the top row and it was the wall. I looked at everyone again and they were too busy chatting with their seatmates, and some of the girls were busy flirting with the boys on the other side.
I wonder if Wade is in the same class as me? Oh well, it doesn't matter. Sooner or later I will find him and I am sure that he will just be around here somewhere.
.
After five minutes, a group of noisy girls came inside and everyone went quiet, it was Irene's group. My brows lifted, then I realized that we were classmates.
Oh hell, I care!
I gave her my smile but the smile on her face faded when she saw me.
.
"Gosh, guess who's here?" she said, crossing her arms.
.
The two girls beside Irene were gossiping and they laughed a little bit. Obviously, they're talking about me. I never took my eyes away from them. I have a bad feeling about this and I bet this is hell, the beginning of another bully here on the campus.
I have had enough of bullies and I can't let them bully me, not today, not on my first day of school. No way!
.
"They fit in together, you know," Karla said, smiling wickedly. She's like one of the mean girls in diary story. Ugh, so ugly!
"The poor girl and the daughter of the wicked witch," she added, and the three of them laughed.
.
My blood rose in an instant when I heard it. Yeah, right! That 'witch daughter' was me and the poor girl was obviously Betty.
The heck, if my mother was a witch for real, then I want to inherit her powers and punish these bitches! I would love to toast them and serve them cold on top of my toast. Dang it!
.
Now everyone's attention is on us and they're all looking at us. Irene cleared her throat and looked away from me, she diverted her stare at Betty who was beside me. I looked at Betty and myself. She's reddish and felt ashamed. Betty doesn't fight because she's too scared of them.
Irene strode closer towards us and then she stopped a foot away from us but she was too close. She grabbed Betty's notebook and ripped it apart into pieces. I held my breath and I couldn't believe it. She's definitely a b***h!
.
"Ops, sorry but no sorry," she said and her brows lifted. She let a short laugh out.
.
My brows crossed when our eyes met. I glared at her and she blinked in astonishment. I am so angry right now. How could she do this to Betty? I know that they did not like Betty because she's poor and her father works on our farmland. Betty's mother does a different type of job and that included washing clothes.
I looked at Betty and she was just quiet, didn't want to start a fight.
.
I was about to stand up and fight but Betty held my hand and she shook her head. Irene then smirked and walked away, and the two ugly girls followed her.
I lifted my brows and stared at them. They sat down in the second row, right in the front, and went quiet. But the gossip is still happening. They all looked at me but then they also looked away. Everyone went quiet. I guess they're all scared of Irene and don't want to go against her.
Huh, what a b***h! Well, not me, because I will really fight if she asks her to fight with me.
.
If Irene is the Mayor's daughter, then I am my father's daughter and I'm proud of it. I cannot let her belittle me and Betty, and I'll make sure of that. I will let it slide today because it's my first day.
.
"Don't worry, Betty. I have an extra notebook here," I said, grabbing the extra one inside my bag and I gave it to her.
"Oh. . . Y-you don't have to do this, Scar," she answered shyly.
"Don't worry, okay. Here." I placed it onto her desk and smiled. I like her, she's a good friend.
"Besties?" I smiled, offering my hand and she shook it.
.
I felt the rough palm of her hand and I realized that Betty worked really hard to get into this school. She's a full-time scholar and both of her parents are working on the rice field as a farmer, on our rice field, on the other side of the mountains.
.
"Great! Now don't worry about them. I can fight. You know me," I winked and she nodded with a smile.
.
The noises are back again and it seems like nothing happened. Class hasn't started yet, and everyone's back chatting. But everyone went quiet when the group of four boys came inside the classroom. My eyes widened and my heart beat erratically when I saw the person that gives so much joy inside me. . . it was Wade Terrance Porter.
.
Oh my goodness! Are we in the same class? Does it mean he's my classmate?
.
Then suddenly everything around me blooms with confetti all over the place. Pathetic, isn't it? But who cares? I just can't believe that my ultimate crush, Wade Terrance Porter, is my classmate.
