I squinted at the guard, “What the hell? Have they gotten past the gates?” I asked sharply and he shook his head. I grabbed the handle of his sheathed sword and pulled it out quickly. “Go in there and get Claus out, inform him of what you have just told me and send a few men to the gates.”
His face became even more aghast, “My king, a few men?” He asked worriedly, “It’s a whole battalion coming from the forest, my king! A few guards will not hold them off, the gates do not need to be guarded even more than it is but the back of the pack.”
