CHAPTER ONE
LISA'S POV
It was another Monday, but the day held special significance as it was my baby's birthday. As I rose from my bed and offered my prayers, I made my way to their room to wake them and prepare them for school.
Downstairs, the maid had already set the table for breakfast. During the meal, I noticed Zoey gazing at me with tears in her eyes. Concerned, I asked her if she was alright. She responded with a question, wondering if I had forgotten something. I assured her that I hadn't, and she simply replied with an "okay" before returning to her food.
It struck me then that this was the first time they were waking up on their birthday without the usual decorations and birthday songs from me and their godmother. They seemed to think we had forgotten.
After dropping them off at school, I returned home to begin the birthday preparations. The ride to school had been unusually quiet until Zoey broke the silence, questioning if I remembered what day it was. I chuckled inwardly and replied that it was just another Monday.
Zach reached out to comfort his sister, a sweet gesture that warmed my heart.
I arranged for an event planner to assist with the decorations and cooking, marveling at how quickly and beautifully she transformed the house.
Lost in memories of the past seven years – from leaving home to meeting Matthew, getting pregnant, having my babies, celebrating their first birthdays, and watching them grow – I drifted off to sleep.
Waking abruptly at 2:30pm, I realized with a jolt that I had overslept and missed picking up my children from school by thirty minutes. Panicked, I rushed out of the house, only to collide with a stranger who was holding my precious babies in his arms.
