Lyra's POV
I felt like my whole world came crashing down in just one second. I didn't know what to say as I tried hard to force something out of my mouth, but it refused to come out. I have been waiting my entire life to meet my fated mate, only for him to reject me on the spot.
"Wait," I finally said. "I… I think there has been a misunderstanding. We… we only just met, and I haven't even done anything wrong to make you mad or irritated, and you're rejecting me. I… I don't accept this rejection. I don't accept it at all." I stuttered, tears threatening to roll from my eyes.
The disgust on his face grew even more visible, and I felt like I was being slapped right in the face as people started turning to look at us.
"Who do you think you are? I am Alpha Alexis, and I cannot settle for a weak Omega as my mate or my Luna, for that matter. You will only be a disgrace to me and my pack." He spat angrily, and tears rolled down my cheeks. "You're so weak to the extent that I can feel your wolf's weakness just by standing meters away from you. You don't think someone like that would be respected in a powerful pack, do you?"
He turned and walked away from me, leaving me there, shattered. I didn't know what to do, and I felt everyone's eyes on me, looking down on me and mocking me. I should never have expected much when I realized he was my mate. No one would want a weak omega like me.
"This year, Alpha Alexis has requested to specially choose his mate." I heard Alpha Connor's voice from the stage, and everyone's attention turned to him immediately. I could feel the heart-shattering pain I was feeling from the just-broken bond intensify, and my head was spinning uncontrollably.
Alpha Alexis stepped up on the stage with his prideful look. Tears just rolled down my eyes as I saw him. I didn't know why, but the thought of him choosing another person apart from me—his fated mate—made me sick.
"I would especially like to thank Alpha Connor for this opportunity to be here and honor our pact." His cold voice sent chills down my spine. "And I promise to take very good care of your niece."
As he said that, everything seemed to stop. He chose Casey over me. Casey was the one he wanted. Of course, he would want her because she was an alpha and not a weak omega like I am.
I tried hard not to burst into tears as I turned to rush out of the hall. I ran as fast as my feet could take me, far away from the ceremony. After running for a while, I stopped and pulled off my heels, as they were already hurting my feet.
A sigh escaped my lips, and from a distance, I could hear the pounding of music and people chattering. Of course, not everyone will come to the mating ceremony, since some have already found their mates and others don't believe in the ceremony.
I walked towards the bar, and the place was dimly lit. The stench of alcohol hit me, and I had this itch to drink it and drown my sorrows.
"Give me a glass of your strongest alcohol." I said, dropping my heels on the floor.
"You are a pretty lady. Why do you want the strongest?" The bartender asked as his eyes raked my body. The black dress I wore was fitting and kissed my curves well, revealing part of my chest. Although I had it covered by a coat in the mating ceremony, I dumped the coat while running out of there.
"Just give me any, please." I said it in a frustrated tone, and he placed the glass before me.
"It's on the house." He said, and I just ignored him as I finished the whole content in a blink of an eye.
"Refill it. Don't worry, I'll pay for it." I replied, pulling out the last money I had with me from my pocket and handing it over to him. "How many more can that pay for?"
"Ten more glasses." He said, with a hint of doubt in his tone.
I drank and continued to drink until I started feeling intoxicated. It was rare for werewolves to get drunk, and that must mean the alcohol was just how I wanted it, and I had a lot already.
"I will kill that man." I said, as I almost smashed the glass in my hand against the counter. "I am not weak; he is just too strong. Too strong to have me... He isn't even worth it. He doesn't deserve me in the first place."
Just then, I felt a chilly presence right next to me, and I looked up to see the most beautiful blonde-haired guy I've ever seen. I couldn't quite make out his face, but I knew he was so handsome.
"Hey handsome." I said, walking to him.
"I want you."
"What do you want from me?" He asked coldly, making me pout my lips a little.
"Will you also reject me? You are all just so full of yourself, thinking you are all powerful and handsome, breaking my heart." I frowned as I trailed my fingers down his chest.
"Be mine."
"Young lady, I think you're drunk, and please do not..." I placed a kiss on his lips to shut him up immediately.
"I said I want you. And no joking around. Make me yours. Make me yours forever and ever."
****
I woke up the following morning in a hotel room, the sheets covering my body. I hurriedly sprang up from my sleeping position and searched around the room for a commodity that wasn't lost.
"What exactly happened?" I groaned as I rubbed my head, trying to remember whatever it was that happened, but nothing came to me but a headache.
Then I looked around, realizing I wasn't in my attic bedroom.
"Oh my goodness, what did I do?" I asked as I looked under the blankets covering my body, realizing I was half naked. Half naked in a hotel room.
I sat down, trying to remember everything that happened the previous night. I remember being rejected by Alpha Alexis and running off from the mating ceremony. I remembered spending everything I had on alcohol, and a blonde-haired man took me up to one of the bar's hotel rooms.
It couldn't be. Tears started welling up in my eyes as the thought of me actually having a one-night stand crossed my mind. I couldn't believe I had left myself for a stranger to have me. I had sworn that my mate would be the first to touch me, and even though Alpha Alexis rejected me, I believed I could still have a second chance mate like those I have read about. "This can seriously not be happening to me." I whispered in disappointment as I ran my fingers through my hair.
If anyone found out about this, especially Alpha Connor and Maia, I would be dead and homeless in the next second. I wasn't only known as the weak omega in the whole palace who should be the Alpha's second niece; I would now be known as the one who gave herself to a stranger without thinking twice.
I got out of bed, realizing the time, and just then, a stack of cash caught my attention, along with a note.
"I guessed you were drunk and just needed a one-night stand. There is no need for us to keep in touch again. Take this money and take care of yourself. Your clothes are in the bathroom." I took the money, knowing I would actually need it. I just needed to find a way to keep this from those at home, or I would be dead by the time Alpha Connor realized I had disgraced him.
I hurriedly dressed and took a cab, dropping near the palace gate. As the guards saw me, they let me in, and everyone who was working in the garden whispered to each other as they saw me.
"Alpha Alexis rejected her last night; did you hear?" I heard one say as I walked into the large palace building, not minding any of them. As I walked in, my throat felt dry, knowing I would be yelled at for not coming back home the previous night.
The first person I saw sitting comfortably in the waiting room was Alpha Alexis, and before I could say a word, a glass came flying straight at me. I ducked it immediately, and it smashed against the wall behind me.
"You are good for nothing, a piece of trash. Where have you been? Who do you expect to serve me my morning tea? I should do it myself." Maia's angry voice boomed in my ears.
