–––––––– THE FILA MAP SHOWED an island a couple of kilometers off shore. They hadn’t spotted it due to its being so low-lying and nearly the same color as the ocean. Aubriot felt confident he could swim out to it but, considering the incident on the river, he wasn’t willing to risk it. Plus, he needed the scientists to go too. He didn’t have a clue what an edible plant might look like and he didn’t want to know. Plants were boring, when they weren’t trying to kill you. Though, he had to concede, they were necessary for survival. Zapata said, “I’m willing to give it a try. It won’t hurt to take a look.” The map was, predictably, free of any information relating to the ground above the waterline and the island was small. If there was a beach, it was likely to be narrow, perhaps too narrow
