"My dear, we have to stay in the house where it's nice and cold." I looked over at Charlie as he tried to usher Yasmin back into the summer heat to go home where he had installed three different AC's in the little house they had around the block.
We had a few here for the rooms we were renting now, and I had to admit, it was bone wrenching in the kitchen so far this morning.
"Back off Charlie. I want to meet him in a place of business." She pushed Charlie's hand away and I looked back to the cheese I was shredding before looking around for something she usually snacks on when she comes in now that she was so close to her due date.
Being a Pixie Yaz was small, and her yeti mate only made the biggest babe grow inside her. However her cravings leaned more towards the veggies and fruits like a Pixie would eat.
I grabbed some grapes from the fridge as she made a pitstop to lean against my counter and I smiled as she melted at the bowl. "Godsend." She whispered and I just smiled and looked to Charlie and nodded.
"Are the guests down for breakfast yet?" She asked around two grapes in her mouth.
"No, as far as I could tell, they went to bed really late last night." I had stayed the night in case any of them wanted anything, at least it meant less gas payments this month. Plus the people staying here have left amazing tips so far.
I had five hundred dollars from just the past three days alone from cleaning their rooms, cooking their food, and getting a chocolate milkshakes for the entire party at 11pm. The cafe wasn't too happy about me rushing in as they locked up, but they got some back the next morning when I made up a little lie that the eggs were frozen solid and recommended the café.
They left a fifty for a meal that was just toast, eggs and coffee.
"Okay... well his friend... apparently, my distant cousin... is coming to help out with the business side since someone won't let me leave the house unless I escape." She shot Charlie a look and I just laughed biting my lip. I couldn't wait to have a real mate, not just a husband hell bent on keeping me for a trophy.
"When is he coming?" I asked and Charlie checked his watch and smiled softly.
"In about a minute." He smirked and headed towards the front door as the gong went off and I rolled my eyes each time I heard it. Just meant more people coming in, or in this case, someone I was going to be working with until the babe popped out.
"He's supposed to be my oldest cousin, another outcast like my mom was." I looked to Yasmin and saw her stuffing more grapes in her mouth and chewing quickly. "This is going to give me heartburn or something. This baby better evacuate very soon." She rubbed her hand over the lower part of her stomach and I nodded and moved around to walk with her towards the front hall.
"Where is the little cousin I have been dying to meet?"
"Behind you, lugging around a yeti sized baby." Yasmin said and I looked at her and smiled as the man, maybe an inch or two taller than me, spun quick, his glowing green eyes hit her and then me, before her again, and then doing a double take at me.
What was he? A fairy? He smelled so good, like precious metals, like gold. His eyes held mine until a hand waved between us and my dragon reared her head and smoke came out of my nose as I looked down to Yasmin who had looked confused until the smoke came out.
"Call me Dante." He held his hand out to his cousin, his eyes kept shifting to mine and then he offered his hand to me and I gulped as his palm caressed mine. His fingers gliding up my palm until he wrapped his fingers around my wrist and then he tugged me. "What may I call you mi amore?"
"I'm Lyla." I whispered and his eyes lit up and a smile was given to me.
"I am guessing... perfect match?" I looked over his shoulder to Charlie and saw him waving his hand to his mate.
"Perfect indeed." Dante whispered and took one step closer to me.
"So how about...a quick view of the books... then lunch." I bit my lip and nodded slowly before taking a step back.
"I will be making the lunch." I whispered and I wanted to be louder, wanted to make sure he could hear my voice, but his eyes were taking my breath away before I could really take another step he nodded at me and raised my hand to his lips and I felt the heat all through my body as he let me go.
I gulped hard and backed up, watching him watch me, until I bumped into the wall before turning into the kitchen, I kept looking over my shoulder until I got to the point where I needed to focus.
I tried to make everything taste amazing, I burnt one tortilla before throwing it out, opening the back door, and then plated everything. I gulped as the stairs to my left creaked and I looked over right away to see Yasmin walking to her plate, and then Charlie. No sign of flashing green eyes behind him.
"He's talking with the guests about how he will be taking over, he will be right down." Yasmin told me when I kept looking for him.
"Okay." I bit my lip and waited behind the counter before I could basically feel him coming closer. It was like that part in Jaws, the famous music going through my head but instead of feeling scared, I was ready to turn into goo and wait to be picked up and walked off to a private room.
He entered the kitchen, his eyes landing on me right away and I gulped hard as he came closer to me rather than the other side of the counter and took my hand.
"You cook then dearie?" He asked me and I nodded quickly before he looked me up and down entirely.
"Very well." I heard Charlie behind me and I bit my lip and tried not to blush at the compliment.
"That's good, because in all my years I have never mastered the art of anything concerning food." He grabbed my other hand and saw a couple of my old cuts from knives and burns from too hot pans of liquids that spilled over.
"How old are you?" I asked and tilted my head and he smiled softly.
"Almost 145." He told me and raised his hand to cup my cheek. "You can't be more than 25."
"I'm 23." I told him and he nodded slowly and smiled wider.
"We're going to go out for dinner tonight after the guests eat, so don't eat." He told me and I just gulped and nodded.
"I just want to clarify because I love Lyla like a little sister, she is amazing... but you are mates right?"
"Yes." Dante told her and I could of melted into gold at the second it fell from his lips.
"How could he tell when I couldn't tell with you? We're both half breeds-"
"You're half human, I am pixie and leprechaun." I bit my lip and wondered what kind of powers he had. "But we're both banned from the pixie kingdom. Even if I am the first born of the new king." He shrugged and looked at his cousin before back to me and I felt a bit of pain hearing that he hadn't been accepted.
"And now we're going to have more mixed children." I heard the smile in her face and I turned to see Yasmin rubbing her belly before she looked at me and then him. "I'm with a yeti, and you with a dragon eventually." She smiled softly before Charlie leaned in and kissed her neck like he usually did to calm her down or claim her publicly.
I bit my lip, wondering how my father was going to react to me finding a mate. He hadn't been feeling his best, his dragon was ready to join my mother, I was almost of age, and if I had been married off like he wanted at 21 he would have already joined her. But now... now I had a real mate. He had to make the arranged marriage go away, and stay for my mating ceremony.
"I can't wait to make a life here." He whispered to me as he mimicked Charlie's position, whispering in my ear, keeping his hands to himself, and his lips. I wanted to be kissed, but the teasing... it was unfair. He smelled so good, he sounded so good.
The pull, whether it was always this strong with other mates or not, was more intense from just the gold smell on him. Any dragon from my clan would be all over him, but not as sexually charged as I apparently was.
