Heather's pov
"Alright, you can take off your blindfold now," Sally's voice floated toward me. I had been guided into what felt like an unfamiliar building, but I still couldn't place exactly where we were. The sense of uncertainty only heightened my awareness.
“Seriously, you guys? Who planned this? Starving the bride on her bridal shower, almost ruining my favorite—very expensive shoes? Blindfolding me and making me walk around the neighborhood for 10 minutes like some kind of i***t? And why does this place smell like whiskey?” I huffed, struggling to undo the knot behind my head.
As I finally removed the blindfold, the sudden shift in lighting had me squinting. I couldn’t make sense of my surroundings immediately. There was an odd mix of neon lights casting a faint glow, the pulsing beat of music thumping, and an air that felt thicker than expected. This wasn’t your typical bridal shower scene.
"Guys? Sally?" I called out, trying to steady myself. "What is this? Are we playing ‘Who Can I Spot in the Dark’? Because if that’s the game, I already lost. All of you look the same to me. Oh, wait... Jenna? Is that you? Gained a little weight, huh?"
The silence was deafening for a moment, but then everyone burst into laughter. "You're hilarious," Megan teased.
Then, without warning, the lights flickered on with a dramatic flourish. I blinked rapidly, my eyes adjusting, and I could finally see. The moment I realized where I was, my stomach dropped.
"Surprise!" My friends shouted in unison, rushing toward me. The cheers and claps of the crowd resonated around me.
"Congratulations, Heather!" Wendy cried, pulling me into a tight hug.
"Congrats, Heather!" Jenna added, giving me a playful squeeze.
I couldn’t help but laugh, though I was feeling a bit light-headed. "You guys seriously know how to keep me guessing. I wasn’t expecting this."
We were at a pub, the hottest and most famous in New York—Reelz Pub. It was notoriously famous for its hot bartenders and unique blends of drinks that kept people coming back. I laughed, I hadn’t been in this pub since my uni days. I was wild back then. I guess the girls chose this place to bring back our old memories.
“Alright, alright, enough of the sappy stuff,” Natalie chimed in. “Let’s get the party started!”
With that, the group ushered me into a private section of the bar, and I saw the laid-back table with appetizers spread out. The atmosphere was alive with excitement, the scent of food and drinks filling the air.
Just as I thought I could finally settle in, my attention snapped to the stage. A tall man with tousled blonde hair and sharp green eyes took the mic. His presence commanded attention.
"Hello, hello, testing, testing," he said, his voice smooth, with an easy charisma. His eyes scanned the room before locking onto me.
"Who’s the bride?" he asked.
I blinked in confusion. “Wait, what?” I said aloud, not believing what I was hearing.
“What did you guys do?” I hissed, why was a deadbeat hot guy looking at me like I was his next target?
Megan shrugged innocently and pointed at the stage, “ Relax, just enjoy the show.”
Yep, it might have been what I feared, did they actually hire a male stripper?
"It’s you, right?" He asked again, I could feel all the eyes in the pub on me.
I gulped, still processing what was going on. Was he really a stripper? I did not want to end up in a video online for getting a strip dance, Johnathan would freak, let alone my parents. No, no, no, I shook my head, maybe I am overthinking.
But then my actions were caught by the guy in stage and he said,
“What? Are you not the one getting married?” he teased, laughter erupting from the crowd. I was mortified.
“I must ask my boss why he gave me the wrong info,” he added with a mock pout.
I stood up quickly, flustered. "Oh no, no, no! I am getting married!" I stumbled over my words, feeling my face turn even redder.
"So it is you!" he said with a grin. "Well, my name’s Brian, and I’m your MC for tonight!" He waved a hand, the crowd applauding.
MC? I glared at Jenna, “ You guys hired a male stripper and made him the MC of my bridal shower?" I hissed playfully.
“ What are you talking about? He is not a stripper, well, at least for tonight, he is only the MC!” Jenna replied with a huge grin.
“ Alright, for tonight, dear bride, I will need your focus on me, unless if you want me to do more than just talking to command your attention.” Brian said and I blushed, knowing what he meant, he was asking, a strip show or MC which one do you want?
I shook my head and said, “ No, please continue, I will pay attention.”
“Alright, ladies,” Brian called out, “let’s get this party started! The first game is ‘Never Have I Ever!’ Let’s see what secrets our bride-to-be has been hiding from us!”
I felt a shiver run down my spine. My friends clapped, and I reluctantly took my seat on stage. What was I getting myself into?
