08 - Chapter Eight
"Cean, wake up."
I opened my eyes as I heard someone, what time is it?
Wyatt's sitting on the side of the bed, he's already wearing a white polo with cargo shorts. Are we going somewhere?
"Where are you going?" I asked.
He stood up, "Take a bath, we're going to eat in the Selasar Island,"
Selasar Island?
I sat on the bed, "Where is that?"
"The Villa alongside with this, Donovan's property,"
"I thought the name of the island was-"
"He changed it two years ago, go and take a bath. You need to eat, I'll wait for you outside," he uttered and walked out.
He's right, I need to eat. I felt my stomach aching, we didn't eat last night. I took a bath and wore a simple dress, it's a beach after all.
"Let's go," I murmured as I saw Wyatt in the living room.
I look around to find Mate, where is he?
"Where's Mate?"
He gawked at me, "Outside," he said coldly.
Early in the morning and he's already testy, what a good way to start the morning. I went outside with him following me.
I grinned when I saw Mate maneuvering the yacht, he's smirking at us. "You know how to operate this?" I asked as I enter.
"Yap, I've been navigating a yacht since I was sixteen," I chuckled at him, he's bragging it gingerly.
I strolled around and left Wyatt and Mate there. They're talking about engineering and business, I run outside when I felt the yacht move.
My lips parted as I saw Wyatt steering the cruiser, what?
I wandered around to look for Mate, I saw him on the brim side of the railings. He's talking to someone on the phone.
I turn at Wyatt, I bit my lips to hide my smile. I didn't know that he could manage to drive like this.
"When did you know how to maneuver a boat?" I asked as I went in his side.
He glanced at me, "Just the same as Mate,"
"Do you know how to pilot a plane or helicopter?" I asked excitedly.
His forehead wrinkles at me, "No, why?"
I pouted, "Oh, nothing. I just thought... you know how too,"
I just like the thought of it.
I lean on the railing while staring at him, he looks serious as usual. I could only see his side profile, that jaw, and pointed nose, his long eyelashes, and the thin line of his lips.
What a good sight to peered on, I shook my head and turn around. I'm holding the railings while watching the water flashed and transcend with air.
I closed my eyes, embracing the serenity of the ocean. The tranquility launched into my system, it feels like the sea carried my soul.
I should enjoy it and stop thinking too much, especially about those things that are out of my control.
"Care to share what you're thinking?" Wyatt grasped the railing on my sides, trapping me in between his arms.
I took a peek at him, "What are you doing?"
"You seem bothered and complex, what's the matter?" his eyes gaped at me, watching me closely.
Is that too obvious?
"Just a family issue and complication..." and you, but I didn't say that.
I turn back my gaze in the ocean while he stroke my hair gently, he made me lean on his broad chest while he caressed my hands.
"Do you want to talk about it?" he whispered in my ears.
His stance awakened the butterfly inside my stomach, it hovered my heart.
"I... no," I sighed heavily.
Trust no one, I couldn't rely on anyone when it comes to family. I don't want to risk it, I don't know if I could trust Wyatt, no, I don't think I really should.
The sun rays hit my face as I look above, the nature really has a way to calm me. I embrace myself as the wind blast in my skin. I was savoring the moment when I felt Wyatt's hand hugging my waist.
"I hope you're okay, Cean," he uttered to me as he kissed the side of my head. "Your eyes held skepticism that I could see how... damn," he muttered curses and sighed deeply.
He held my waist tightly for a second, turning me around, facing him. I stared into his eyes, that unknown emotion in his eyes that I couldn't understand.
"I'm fine," I assured him.
"You don't have to worry about me, I am not your responsibility," I uttered truthfully.
I hate that he's making me feel like he cared for me, does he like me? I doubt that.
"I do care for you," he muttered as if he was able to hear my thoughts.
I chortled lightly, "If your dad found out that we're getting along just fine... you'll gonna messed this up,"
He licked his lips and let go of my waist as quickly as he can, he looks away and took a step backward. His eyes consumed void emotion, I pressed my lips together to hide my bitterness, a little taste of sour.
"I'm sorry," he whispered before going inside the yacht.
Mate eyed Wyatt as he went inside and glanced at me, "You okay?" he asked.
I smiled at him, "Yap,"
He nods at me and didn't ask, I set my attention to the island. Selasar Island, that's the new name of Donovan's villa.
What does it mean? Is there a meaning behind it?
I could see a lot of people out there, this island captivates the heart of those who are lonely, the atmosphere screams for it.
Do people visits this island to breathe out and escape the loneliness? The island suits the description where lonely people throw themselves in a place that will comfort the hole in their hearts.
The ambiance of the place was really good, "It looks alluring, isn't it?" Mate asked as he stands beside me.
I nod at him, "The isle made me want to stay in the place," I muttered.
He smiled and look at the place intently, it became more crystal clear as we got closer.
"The first thing that came in my head when I saw that place was... exorbitant, how love can put us in beyond excessive bounds of moderation," he chuckled, "Highly excessive love can destroy us, a lot of people refused to believe that, I refused to believe that,"
I look at him, "Mate..." I don't know what to say.
He chuckled at me, "Don't worry, I am fine. I just want to share it, how about you? What do you think about the place?" he asked normally.
I suspire a little, "It's... just simply fascinating... and despairing,"
"It was meant to be that way," he stated before he went to the steering wheel and stop the yacht on the side of the island.
He helped me to go down, "Go first, I'll call Wyatt inside. Someone will assist you there," he said and pointed to the girl who's standing near us.
"Okay," I said before walking to the girl that's wearing a red tee-shirt with slacks and flat shoes.
"Let's go, Miss Homer," the girl said.
I followed her as she guided me inside. The sculpted name of the island captured my eyes, it's written in cursive greek writing, 'Selasar Island' beside it was a figure of a woman. It is looking sidewardly, half of the face can be distinguished but the other half was covered by the hair of the woman... it looks familiar.
"Hey miss," the girl stops as I called her, "Can I ask something?"
She beamed at me and glanced at the sculptures, "Do you want to ask about that, Miss Homer?"
"I'm just curious, do you know her?" I pointed to the woman.
She shook her head, "No, ma'am. I don't know her personally but... her name is Heisha."
Heisha? Oh, Donovan formed a sculpted figure of the woman.
I smiled at her, "Oh, is that so?"
"Yes, ma'am,"
I took a glimpse of the sculpture once again before we went inside. We stop at the counter, she talks to someone and lends me a pin.
"What is this for?" I asked, examining the pin she gave.
"This place is very secured, you need that in case of emergency." the tall woman muttered, she looks sophisticated and elegant with her long hair and yellow dress.
"Ah, Miss Homer, this is Miss Deianira Kyros, the sister of the owner," the girl assisting me stated.
My lips parted, damn.
I smiled at her and she did the same thing, "Nice to meet you in person, Oceanna," she kindly said.
"It's finally nice seeing you too," I replied in amusement, her beauty is ethereal.
"You're with Mate?" she asked.
I nod at her, "Yap, we are here to eat. He's your friend?"
She sniggered, "Yeah, I met him when I was in high school,"
Oh, high school. I never saw her in school before, how come?
"I transferred school when I was in grade ten," she stated and look at behind me.
"I didn't know you're with Vilmaris," she looks at me maliciously.
I chuckled, "He's my... friend,"
"Just friends?"
I nod, "Yap,"
She smirked at me, "I thought... oh well, it must be a gossip,"
My forehead furrowed, "You're close with them?"
"Not really," her lips pursed.
Deianira is morena and slender, she has this round eyes, thick eyebrows, and heart-shaped lips.
"You two met already, huh," I heard Mate's voice behind me, they look like they rush to go here.
I glanced at Wyatt, he's looking at Deianira in front of me, no, they are staring at each other. Mate cackled with laughter, making me confused.
"You didn't say something to her, right?" Mate asked her while laughing whole-heartedly, he's holding his stomach in so much laughter.
What? I look at them with confusion.
Deianira snickered devilishly and raised her hands as if she's surrendering, "Oh come on, Helmer, drop that stare, I am a well-behaved person,"
I raised my eyebrow, she's calling him in his second name? I thought they're not close?
Wyatt turns at me but I just squint at him, I look at Mate, he's biting his lips to hide his vicious smile.
Deianira turns at me and smiled, "I need to go, you and your..." she glanced at Wyatt. "Friends can roam around, I'll see you next time," she uttered.
"Where are you going? We just came here, you should come with us," Mate pouted his lips lightly. "Right, Wyatt?"
We looked at Wyatt, waiting for his answer. He nods, "Yeah,"
I don't know but I felt pissed at the way they stared at each other. Is that normal? I mean... me, is that normal to feel irritated because of that?
Am I being irrational?
I look away and sighed, this is not good.
"Okay, if you say so. Ri-Leigh will come with us. Damien is also here," she uttered.
She mentioned someone familiar, Damien? I think I heard it somewhere, I just couldn't remember where.
"All right, let's go," Mate walked first, he is walking beside Deianira while Wyatt and I are just following them.
We stop in a restaurant, the Oakwood design hypnotized me. It looks so classic and modish, who designed this?
"You like it?"
I took a glimpse of Wyatt and nod, "Yap,"
"They made it look modern but also ancient, Nira likes primitive design," he stated.
Did I ask? Nira, huh. So, he likes calling someone in their nickname? He's calling me Cean, I thought... oh hell, what the hell is wrong with me?
I flickered my tongue inside my cheeks to control my annoyance, I forced a smile.
"Yeah," I said and walked inside.
I saw Mate waving his hand, "Here, Miss Homer!" he exclaimed.
He's sitting with... what the hell? As far as I remember Deianira only mentioned two-person but... they are too many... should I go there?
I feel like I don't belong there.
Someone grabbed my hand, "Let's go," Wyatt pulled me to the table.
Shit! Why are they looking at me?
"Hi, Oceanna, I didn't know that you are more beautiful in person," the guy said, he has a piercing in his ears.
I smiled awkwardly, "Oh, hi.... ahm, thank you?"
"You're making her feel awkward, Saweas," the other guy uttered. He looks at me and smirked, his dimple shows at what he did.
"I am Aly," he stood up and raised his hand, shake hands?
I accepted his hand, "Oceanna,"
He smiles at me and kissed my hand, "My pleasure to meet you,"
"Nice-"
"Sit down, Cean," he pulled my hands to the guy, "Stop flirting with her, Aly,"
His face crumpled as he pulled my chair beside him, in my other side is Mate who's grinning at me.
"You look like an i***t," I whispered to him.
He leans forward to whisper something to me but my chair moves away from him, I look at Wyatt, he pulled my chair closer to him.
Mate chortled, "We are talking, Wyatt,"
"She needs to eat, talk to her later," he said flatly.
I shook my head and look at the girl in front of me, she's smiling widely beside Deianira.
"I'm Ri-Leigh," she said merrily. "You don't need to introduce yourself, we know you already,"
I nod at her and smiled.
Of course, they'll know me, this is really awkward. I am dining with the heiress of Kyros, which I shouldn't. Uncle Jonathan will freak out... if he'll know.
I scanned our table. Deianira is holding her phone, probably texting someone, while the other guys are talking. There are still three guys that I don't know aside from that Aly and Saweas?
I glanced at Damien, I couldn't remember where did I saw him. I shrugged and look at Wyatt when he exchanged our plates, he gave me his plate that has food.
"Eat," he uttered.
"You don't have to do that, I can handle myself," I whispered to him.
He pressed his lips together, "I already did, just eat, Cean."
"Don't do it next time,"
"You're making it a big deal, it's just food," his voice sounds stern.
"Even so- okay, fine,"
I shook my head and didn't try to argue, we are eating peacefully when some girls went to our table.
"Wow, eating without us, huh," a woman with her red bikini, she's wearing a cardigan.
Her eyes roamed the table and stop at Wyatt, her lips formed a smirk.
"Helmer... you didn't tell me that you're coming," she said tantalizingly.
"Vaeren," the Moreno guy at our table looks at her warningly. So that's her name, Vaeren?
"Don't start a scene, Vae." the other girl uttered. The one who's wearing one-piece clothes.
Vaeren shrugged, "I am not doing anything, Salera. You're all overacting,"
She smiled at us then sat beside Wyatt while Salera and the other girl sat near Saweas and Damien.
I look at Wyatt with my confused look, what's happening? Everyone at the table became quiet, I could almost hear the wind.
"What?" Vaeren asked as she noticed everyone looking at her.
"Just sit beside me, not there," the Morena guy again, he's looking at her intently.
"What's your problem, Kuya Xigen? I'm not doing anything," she frowned at him, oh wait, that's her brother?
"Just do it, Vaeren. Come here,"
"No," she uttered and pored at Wyatt, "Wyatt seems okay with it,"
My forehead wrinkles, what? I shook my head and took a glimpse at Salera and the other girl. They are looking at me, I pursed my lips and look away.
"Just sit beside Xigen, Vaeren." I heard Wyatt muttered.
I'm chewing my food when I saw her hands clung in his arms, I look at her then at Wyatt. They look so stupid.
What is this? Some kind of movie or novel?
"Vaeren," Saweas looks at her darkly.
I heard someone cursed as Saweas stood up, "Don't start, Saweas." Vaeren stated and equaled his anger.
"What a scene," I heard Deianira said, interrupting them. Everyone looks at her. She raised her eyebrow to Vaeren.
"You should stop being stubborn, it looks like you didn't grow at all," she uttered in a calm way.
I bit my lips to hide my gaiety. I know that Kyros' way to handle situations is very calm and nostalgic... but seeing it first hand, is just surreal.
Vaeren scoffed at her, "I think you're the one who didn't change at all. Still likes to meddle with someone's life, hmm?"
Deianira smiled at her wickedly, "Yeah, I still like to ruin someone's ego, butthurt?"
Vaeren clenched her jaw, she stood up but Wyatt quickly held her arms, "Calm down, Vaeren."
"Nira, stop it too," Ri-Leigh uttered to her friend.
"I thought I'll be eating peacefully," someone whispered.
"Shut up, Nidxel. You always eat, you punk!" Aly whispered.
"I hate catfights,"
"They are not fighting yet, Devien," Aly replied again, the guy named Nidxel hit Aly's head.
"Stop being so sarcastic, you i***t,"
I shrugged at them, they are used at this kind of scene, it seems like that.
Damien stood up, "We'll go, Donovan wants to see his sister now."
"Kuya is here? I thought he'll go next week?" she stood up and wiped her mouth.
"He wanted to facetime you, you've been dodging him for a month," Damien stated.
Nira rolled her eyes, "It's because he's an asshole,"
"He's been like that since birth, Nira," Ri-Leigh added and chuckled.
"We'll go now, thank you for the time," Damien said and glanced at me, he smiled at me.
My lips parted and smiled back, I watched them walked away.
"b***h," Vaeren murmured and sat down again.
"Let's order food first," Salera said.
The girl with brunette hair scowled at her. "Right, Salera. I'm freaking hungry," she held her stomach as it made a sound.
Everyone laughed except Saweeas, Xigen, and Wyatt. They look serious and dark.
"I can already hear your stomach, Laweas," Aly said, smirking at the girl named Laweas.
"Shut up, Aly."
"Why are you here?" we look at Vaeren, she's looking at me.
Is she referring to me?
"She's with me," Wyatt answered.
He glanced at me, "Finish your food, we're leaving,"
I pursed my lips, what's the rush?
"What? You're leaving now?" Vaeren asked. She took a peek at me then focus on Wyatt.
I look at Mate, he gave me a knowing look which is I don't know. What does he want?
"Finish your food, Vaeren is kind of bitching around when it comes to Wyatt," Mate whispered to me.
My brow furrowed, "Why?"
"Isn't it obvious? She likes him,"
I glanced at them, Wyatt and Vaeren. They are talking to each other, and yes, it's pretty obvious that she likes him. Her eyes show it all, her gestures.
I turn to Mate, "So? Do I look like I care?" I raised my brow to him.
He smirks at me, "Hmm, it depends," he moves closer to me, "She's obsessed with him-"
I almost scream when my chair moves in a sudden, "What the hell, Wyatt!" I glared at him.
His forehead wrinkles at us, "Stop moving closer to her, Xiandro." he said in a monotone while looking at Mate.
Mate shrugged, "We're just talking, and besides, it's okay with Oceanna..." he looks at me with a cunning look.
Wyatt pored at me, "What?" I asked.
He squints at me, "Finish your food,"
I mocked him secretly, he's becoming so bossy. I noticed Vaeren stares at me so I look at her, she's scanning me from head to toe.
My lips parted when she rolled her eyes, oh, what an attitude.
Mate laughed, I know he saw that too. "Don't mind her, she's a spoiled brat-"
"Mate Xiandro," Wyatt said in a grimace, he's looking at him, at us, in annoyance.
I and Mate frowned at him, what's wrong with him?
"We're just talking-"
"Talk to her with that space," he moves my chair even closer with him, giving me a lot of space in Mate.
"Such a brute," Mate whispers in the air, he sniggered.
"Why are you with her, Helmer?" Vaeren asked again, stealing our attention. I could hear the annoyance in her voice.
Wyatt sighed, "She's my friend."
Friend? When did we become friends? And why does he need to explain to her?
A smile slowly crept into Vaeren lips as she sneak a look at me. "Yeah, friend, of course." she made it sound like an insult, such a shame to be so desperate, huh.
"Let's bond, it's been a year since we get along. Just leave her with Mate, it looks like they're getting along together," she added while looking at him with so much passion.
I keek at Mate, I made a face and he surreptitiously chortled.
"They get along so well. I could see that,"
I look at Wyatt, his lips twisted brutishly as he eyed us. I gave him an innocent look and smiled at him fakely.
"She's right, you should go and bond with her. I am fine-"
"No, finish your food and we'll go home," his voice sounds somber, it made me shut my mouth.
"Stop forcing it, Vaeren. Let them enjoy here," Xigen uttered in controlled temper.
"Xigen's right, let them explore the island. Miss Homer is here for the first time," Nidxel smiles at me.
Everyone is nice except for this girl, Vaeren. It's not like I would steal Wyatt from her, she could have him if she wants, tss.
I finished my food and look at Mate, some of them are talking. Wyatt and Vaeren are also talking, I silently move away to avoid eavesdropping, it's not like I want to hear their conversation.
Mate chuckled at me, which made Wyatt looks at us. He stares at me, "What are you doing?"
I glared at Mate before turning at Wyatt, "Huh? I'm just... moving my chair?" I asked stupidly that made Mate cackled louder, gaining other's attention.
"Mate," I growled at him.
I felt Wyatt's hands on my arms, pulling me closer to him. He stood up and tighten his grip, "Let's go,"
I glimpse on his plate, his food is not yet finished. "You're not done eating," I uttered to him.
His lips went in a grim line, "I lost my appetite," he turns to them, "We'll go,"
He didn't wait for their response and walked away, I have left no choice but to follow him.
I pouted my lips as he went up to the yacht, he didn't look back at me. I sighed. I look back to see Mate but he's not around, wait? He's not coming with us?
How could I go up? The stair of the yacht is too tall for me, it's not arrowed on the sea sand. Should I call someone to help me?
"I probably should," I whisper to myself.
Wyatt's mood is unpredictable and unsteady. Sometimes, he's nice, then most of the time, he's stony and dull.
I don't know how to handle him. I was about to leave when I saw him went down.
He held my waist in a sudden, making me shriek in shock. "Wyatt!" I exclaimed.
"Put your hands on the handle,"
I look daggers at him before climbing above, "You should have warned me!" I yelled in frustration.
He effortless climbed in the yacht, he leered at me blankly. Did I do something wrong?
"What's your problem, Wyatt? We're fine yesterday," I don't know what's happening to him.
He licked his lips and sighed, he shook his head and went inside. Don't tell me... we'll just stay here? I thought we would go to Nyx's house?
I would rather go and roamed on the island than to stay here with him and with his inexplicable attitude!
An hour passed, I was just enjoying the view and sometimes scrolling my phone. Is he really planning to stay here for a few more hours? I'm getting bored already.
"Wyatt," I searched for him inside the yacht, I need help to go down if we won't leave.
"Wyatt-"
"I'm here," I heard his voice inside the room. I almost stumbled when I saw him topless and lying on the bed.
What the hell?
I look away, "I need your help... I want to stroll the island," I uttered without looking at him.
"Later,"
I glowered at him, "What's with you? We are wasting our time here,"
He opened his eyes and stares at me intently, "You should have waited for Mate then," he said in a drone tone.
"You told me to follow you!"
"It's your choice to obey me," he's so cocky!
I breathe out in exaggeration, I didn't know he could be this ludicrous and unreasonable! He's starting to annoy me, so freaking much.
I felt my eyes moisten as my emotion take over me, I look away at him, afraid that he'll notice my vulnerability.
"Cean," he utters as he sat down, looking at me.
I shook my head, "I'll go outside," I said and run.
He's an asshole! I'm trying to understand him but he's being too difficult to handle.
I licks my lips as I wiped my tears, the ocean's getting wild. The waves are getting robust with time. It looks beautiful with the sun towering the color of the sea.
"Cean," I frowned as I turn at him.
"Don't disturb me," I muttered and put my attention to the ocean. I don't want to talk to him.
"Cean," he whispers closer to me.
I look at him, "Step back," I clenched my jaw. I know how his presence can affect me. I don't want him to know that.
"I'm sorry,"
I pressed my lips together, now he's saying sorry? Is it because I get mad? Do I need to cry first before he fixes himself?
"The ocean looks treacherous," he muttered.
"Go away," I mumbled, I want to talk to him when I am okay.
For now, I just want to be alone. To watch the skies and sea, to feel the wind envelop me. I turn around when silence covered the place, thinking that he left already.
My lips protruded a bit as I caught him watching me, he smiles a little, making me frown.
"Don't mind me, just go on. I'll wait for you," he stated while leaning his back on the railings, watching me.
I shrugged, "You can rest inside,"
His lips rose in a vicious manner, it looks so menacing. "I am fine here,"
I shook my head and focus on the panorama of the place. I like the feeling of comfort in this place. It makes me unbend a little, the scenery feels so right.
"I want to stay here," I uttered in nowhere, it just came in my mouth.
"You want to live here?"
I pored at him, "As if I can," as if I could.
Maybe they are right, I always want something that is opposed to what I should be.
That I am the problem... maybe I am contemplating too much for something that wasn't meant for me in the beginning.
I sighed heavily as I felt the heavy burden in my heart. I am not happy. I am not happy with my life.
"Cean," I peered on him.
"Are you happy?" I asked.
He stares at me thoroughly, I felt like he can read what's on my mind but it's impossible. I chuckled, I'm going crazy over this.
"Are you happy?" he asked back.
I copied his position, now we're both leaning on the railings while looking at the skies above.
"I don't know," lies.
I gaped at him, "How could we know if we're happy?"
He licks his lips and looks at me straight in the eyes, "Happiness is subjective, you are the only person who can say if you're happy or not," he looks down.
I smiled when I saw our shadow on the yacht. His height is towering mine, he's tall.
"I am not sad..." I glanced at him, he stand properly and turn at me. "But I am not happy either,"
I bit my inside cheeks and tilted my head to welcome the breeze, I closed my eyes. It is in the middle of being sad or happy... or emptiness.
"I wanted to be happy," I whisper in nature.
"Come here," Wyatt uttered, "I'll give you a hug," he opened his arms to me.
I chuckled at him, "Is that your way to apologize for being nasty a while ago?"
He shook his head and smile, "I guess?"
"Not sure, huh," I scoffed at him and walks toward him.
He puts my hands on his waist as he embraces me in my neck. He cages my head on his neck. I shut my eyes, feeling the undisclosed emotion in my heart.
I felt at home in his arms... my system found his warmth and tenderness.
"I'm sorry for making you cry," he mutters in my head.
I grip his waist tightly, "Don't do that again, don't confuse me like that."
He sniffs my hair, "I won't do that again. I promise," he moves away a little to see me.
We stares at each other, his eyes went to my wet lips. He shook his head and pulled me closer, he pressed his lips in my forehead.
"If only I could take the consternation in you, Cean,"
I bit my lips, I don't want to move away. I am afraid... that everything is just a dream. The matter of living with hunger and longing, an escape to reality.
I tugged him closer, I like him... I know I do.
I just couldn't let myself be drawn in so much affection... because too much emotion tends to break easily. It will put you to a higher extent... giving you everything you need... then leave you.
