I was struggling to figure out why he would be here.
“Young lady, what’s your name?” An elderly-looking man with calm features asked me as he pushed his glasses back up the bridge of his nose.
“Diana. Diana Quicksilver.”
“You’re welcome, Ms. Diana. Kindly take a seat, while you get ready for your interview which will commence in a few minutes.” Jack added and his voice caught my attention as I focused my eyes on him only to notice him staring at me with desire in his striking blue eyes.
“Okay,” I whispered before sitting down.
“Everyone, leave,” Jack announced much to my shock, and within a minute, the room was empty and it was just the both of us left in the room.
“Did there something wrong?” I asked, struggling to find my voice.
“No, not in the slightest.” Jack smiled at me as he made his way towards where I sat.
“You’re supposed to be in school today, isn’t it?” Jack asked me. “You’re starting senior year today.”
“Yes, I was supposed to start today but I had to skip school for my interview,” I explained.
“Well, surprisingly, my father fell sick today and I had to come to the company today. That was how I knew this was destined to happen.” Jack explained.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, confused about what he was talking about.
“We were destined to meet today, Diana. My father never falls sick, he’s one of the strongest wolves in the pack and the company never interviews high schoolers until today. That tells me all I need to know.”
“What does that tell you?”
“You and I are mates, Diana. I know you felt that spark that I did when you walked, don’t try and lie to me.” Jack smiled at me as he stopped in front of me and pulled me to my feet.
“What?” I was stunned. “Yes, I felt it. But, isn’t this happening too suddenly? I mean, I just can’t—“
“You can, Diana and you will.” Jack cut me short. His voice was suddenly low and I was starting to get scared.
“I’m sorry but I need to leave now,” I said as I picked my bag up from the table.
I didn’t come here for this and I wasn’t prepared at all. I still had a lot I wanted to do before I started to consider being mated.
“I don’t I made myself clear earlier but you’re not leaving here until you accept to be my mate.”

I bit down hard on my lips drawing blood as the wolfsbane laced with silver whip came down on my bare back. I felt my skin rip open with a new wound as the whip came down on my back again and again, this time, leaving an injury worse than the previous one.
“Should we keep on going? I’m taking so much pleasure in doing this. I can do this for the rest of your life if I decide to.”
His laugh was cold and empty, sending chills down my spine.
“You should learn to answer when I’m talking to you, Nia. I am going to be your mate after all and you’re bound to obey me. Isn’t that right?”
Jack didn’t wait for me to get the words out of my mouth before he brought the whip down again and this time I couldn’t hold it any longer as I yelled in pain and agony as I failed to hold myself together.
I’ve often promised myself not to give anyone the satisfaction of seeing me cry anytime I was being whipped but today, I failed.
The tears I’ve been struggling to rein in stung my eyes harshly as they rolled down my cheeks.
We’re supposed to be mates if I accept but I haven’t! I yelled internally. How can you treat me this way? Do you hate me that much?
I couldn’t bring myself to say this openly for fear of what he would do next. I was scared of dying, especially by his hands. If I provided him with an easy option to take that action, I’m willing to bet that he would do it.
I wanted to beg for mercy but I didn’t have the strength to do that either. So I stayed in my position like the scared wolf that I was, hoping that he would let me go any moment now.
“I wonder what stupid tricks the moon goddess decided to play on me when she made you my mate. Maybe she decided that I was too rigid and it was time to spice up myself. I regret ever setting my eyes on you, you’re worthless. But, I must honor tradition and make you mine by all means possible.”
He yelled at me as he bent towards me where I was hunched on the floor covered in blood.
He grabbed a chunk of my hair and pulled it towards him forcing me to look at him, my dull green eyes meeting his empty black ones that only shone with hatred for me.
“You should accept to be my mate or I’m only going to keep on punishing you until you accept, it’s up to you to decide your fate.” He spat out viciously, his face extremely close to mine.
“If you knew you would’ve ended up despising my very existence, you shouldn’t have claimed me as your mate, maybe you wouldn’t be burdened with me by now. There were a thousand and one ways to know if you truly love someone and you don’t tick any box as it is.” I yelled back, unable to control my anger anymore.
It felt good but I instantly regretted my action as his fist connected with my jaw.
“You dare talk back to me?!” His voice filled my rage. “It seems you’ve forgotten your place, you slut. Have you forgotten who I am to you?” He never missed an opportunity to flex his superiority over me.
“And tell me why I would have rejected you in the first place?” I didn’t know if I was supposed to speak or not, his question sounded somewhat rhetorical, so I remained silent.
“I want you to feel pain every time you see me with someone else in my quarters if you don’t accept me now.”
“I’m sorry, Alpha. It won’t happen again.” I muttered under my breath, hoping he would hear it. I was already feeling my eyes close slowly as memories of what happened this morning reeled in my head. It had led to me being in this state.
