7 Allie froze and the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. She inched her face to her right. A soft white mist floated over the ground toward her legs. She did the only lady-like thing she could think of and leapt to her feet with a piercing scream. The men dashed across the ten feet between them as she stumbled backward and pointed a finger at the mist. Even as she raised her hand the white cloud sank into the soil. Drifter grabbed her shaking shoulders and looked at where she pointed. “What is it?” She wrapped her arms around her quivering body and tried to suppress the sob of fright that welled up in her throat. “I-I heard somebody giggle, and then there was this fog that was floating toward me.” Talka wrinkled his rodent nose. “I’ve never heard any of them giggle.”
