Benefits of marriage

Camille had regained her fury and all her fear was hidden behind Mr. Thomson. Alanna, for her part, was furious. It was obvious that these two were united against her. —You and I are going to be working together. You'd better learn values and know who you're arguing with, otherwise you could lose your job,— said Alanna in a daze. —I don't care who the hell you are. I just see a simple former employee. Do me a favour and get the hell out of my department— said Mr. Thomson righteously. Alanna smiled in satisfaction. It was unforgivable for the employees of that company to be so arrogant and rude. —What if I told him that I was Mr. Nick Smith's wife? I don't think he'd like the way you're treating me,— said Alanna confidently. Mr. Thomson thought Alanna was lying. After all, Nick was a bachelor, or so the whole firm knew. —Don't talk rubbish— Mr Thomson took offence with a rude laugh. He knew absolutely nothing about Alanna and Nick's relationship, but he couldn't help teasing her. —Yes? I guess so, the president is your father too?— he continued to mock. Alanna didn't insist on saying anything more, she just sighed and turned around to leave the canteen. Behind her Camille and the women were booing and insulting her loudly. When Alanna reached the door, she stopped and looked back at Mr. Thomson and Camille. —Are you sure about this?— asked Alanna, giving him a chance not to act against her later. Mr. Thomson listened and was f*****g intrigued. She really was prejudiced and difficult. —Yes, I said, I won't let a mere employee make a mockery of the company— he insinuated with malice aforethought. Camille, who heard everything and enjoyed such a scene, smiled mischievously. —Alanna, I think your castle of lies has collapsed. You treacherous b***h— she said. Alanna arched her eyebrows and frowned, looking over her shoulders. —I hope you both enjoy this while you can— Alanna added. Alanna stood her ground even though Camille was still taunting her along with the other women. She really hated Alanna's bravery. It seemed that Alanna was not bothered by anything that was going on. That was unbearable for Camille. At first Camille expected Alanna to burst into tears and walk out of the company with her head down, or at least get down on her knees and beg for mercy from her. Camille was naive enough to think that. In the end, Alanna did nothing but mock all her absurd attempts to make her unhappy. Not content with that, Alanna had now become Nick's wife. Alanna was completely different from all the other women in town. Camille was the black sheep of the family. She had been disowned by her parents for showing her malice at a young age. After her return, she did everything she could to ruin Alanna and keep her from the absurd happiness she found herself in with Lucas. Still, Alanna held her head high. Why? That was supposed to be Camille's territory, not Alanna's b***h. Just as Camille thought that, Mr. Thomson's phone started ringing. The man reached into his pocket and pulled out the phone, and looking at the screen quickly answered the call. —Hello, sir,— he said. As he said that, a loud, arrogant voice came from the other end of the phone. After a few seconds, Mr. Thomson's expression changed dramatically. He swallowed hard and hung up the phone. —Miss, just a moment, wait!— Mr. Thomson said with his face down. The way he was looking at her was totally different from the way he himself had looked at her only a few minutes before. You could see a hint of regret and fear in his face. —Miss, I think I... I was wrong about you. Excuse me, please— Alanna noticed the fear in Mr. Thomson's eyes and inwardly scoffed. —What do you mean, you were wrong, weren't you sure of your words a few minutes ago? — she said —I'm... I'm so sorry, Miss. It was just a moment of anger. Please excuse me— he repeated again with reddened eyes. Alanna knew that this call had a lot to do with Mr. Thomson's sudden change. It didn't take her long to guess who had called that phone. She ignored the man and walked on with a blank stare. Mr. Thomson saw her and he was scared shitless. He chased her to the lift and almost knelt before her, begging her for an apology. He didn't know that the woman Camille and the other women were framing was none other than Nick Smith's wife. She had said so, but he didn't believe her. Big mistake! —Miss Summer, please... don't tell your husband this. I beg you! Have pity on me,— Mr. Thomson implored pleadingly. Apparently the things Alanna was saying were happening, he totally regretted his disrespectful attitudes towards her. Camille, for her part, was taken aback: —What the hell are you doing, didn't she just get thrown out of here? Have some dignity,— Camille replied to Mr. Thomson. At the sound of Camille's voice, Mr. Thomson became serious and furious. —Miss Camille, this is all your fault! You have cheated me and now I have to pay for everything! You have falsely accused Miss Summer! You should have bothered her from the beginning!— When the other employees heard Mr. Thomson say that Alanna was Nick Smith's wife, their faces immediately turned pale. Seeing this, Alanna just stepped back and pressed the lift button without making any gestures. Mr. Thomson had been left arguing with Camille without noticing that Alanna had reached the lift. He walked towards her in the hope of stopping her, but when the lift doors opened, there was a man standing there. Alanna was confused to see Nick in the lift. He stood helplessly with his cold stare fixed on them. No one had expected Nick to come down as a consultant. Just a few minutes ago he had called Mr. Thomson! —Mr. Smith... you're here— Mr. Thomson said timidly as he lowered his head in respect. His voice and hands were trembling with fear. —Mr. Thomson, good morning. I hear you've fired my wife, am I wrong?— Nick implied in a flat, authoritative tone. Mr. Thomson's legs began to shake immediately, his heart was beating fast. He tried hard to conceal his fear. He really didn't want to lose his job. He regretted forever that he had listened to Camille and accepted the bribe she had offered him for making that scandal with Alanna. Nick was the president of the company, but Alanna had no idea about that. She imagined that he only had large shares there, and that was why he could make decisions about Camille. But apparently Nick was the president of that company and all the other Smith family companies. Alanna was stunned, he really was her guardian angel... but, her smile disappeared when she remembered that maybe he wasn't doing anything for her, but out of hatred for Camille. Maybe she's just a tool he could use against Camille, right? Thinking about it, Alanna relaxed a little. At least he hadn't denied at all that strange marriage certificate they had in common. Could it mean anything? —Mr. Smith... This is my fault. I didn't know she was his wife. Please don't throw me out!— Mr. Thomson's voice was f*****g sad. Now that Nick was there, Alanna didn't have to put up with either of them anymore. She folded her arms and watched the drama unfold. Even though she didn't know Nick, she trusted his powerful aura. —Tell me something, did someone offer you money to do that?— said Nick —I... I... I ...— Before Mr. Thomson could explain himself, Nick interrupted him. —It's obvious, you accepted money to offend my wife. The company doesn't need scum like you. You're fired. Stop by administration today for your last paycheck— Nick said, staring at Mr. Thomson. When he finished speaking, Mr. Thomson knelt down on the floor in front of Nick and started begging for his job. He didn't want to believe that Nick would fire him without thinking twice. He had been working for KG Organization for over 6 years, he couldn't take it! Alanna didn't expect it either. She was flabbergasted. Suddenly, Nick reached out his warm, strong hands drummed on her wrists. She looked up at Nick and gently caressed his soft, strong hands. That was so f*****g perfect and exciting! Alanna came to and saw behind Nick as Mr. Thomson cried his eyes out. —Miss Summer, please excuse me. I didn't... I didn't mean to offend you... Please ask your husband to give me a chance— Mr. Thomson announced again and again. Apparently, working there was a great financial adventure. Alanna couldn't believe that a man like him would get down on his knees and beg her to give him a job. —I'm sorry Mr. Thomson.... My husband has decided— said Alanna, not knowing what else to say at that moment. She felt terrible, but he had humiliated her without knowing her opinion. She didn't deserve that! After saying that, Mr. Thomson put his head down and got up. There was no way he could get his job back, there was no doubt about that.
