4 “When is your brother coming for you?”

“Stay away from me!” Her words were still ringing in his ears. He was his mate…or did this mean she didn’t feel the same pull he felt when he first saw her? He looked into the darkness and saw the outline of her body. He was used to the darkness and he could see a little in it. She was cowering against the door as if he will attack her or something. William clenched his jaw. “I am not going to do anything to you,” he said. His voice felt rough, unused. He cleared his throat and swallowed a bit to sooth the dryness there. He opened his mouth and tried again. “I am chained to this wall. I won’t be able to reach you there anyway. So you can relax.” She didn’t say anything. William sighed. He took a deep breath, and all he could smell was her sweet scent. God, she smelled so good. He clenched his hands into fists as his wolf pushed to the surface sensing her. “Mate,” he said. He could feel his excitement. And he wanted to get out to meet her. “Not now, Karami,” William said holding tight to him. His wolf was strong. He could force the change if he wanted to. But he will only scare the girl.  As it was she was scared of him. William closed his eyes, and sighed. Of all the people Gol could have locked him with. He had to go and find his mate. Was this another way for him to feed off his misery? William asked himself knowing Gol would try anything and everything to be able to feed. Bringing his mate here and taking her away, would be the worst torture. He should resist this. He shouldn’t give Gol another weapon to use against him. But it was easier said than done. Not with his wolf screaming to him that they should claim their mate. He prowled inside him waking up every werewolf instinct that has lain dormant within for years. William’s body became hypersensitive. The hairs on his body stood up in anticipation. He could barely see her, but he was so aware of her sitting all the way on the steps. She was calling to him.  William took a deep breath, breathing in her sweet. Her scent was intoxicating and he could feel his body reacting to her. He wanted her close…in his arms. He wanted to leave his mark on her. His heart hammered in his chest. And his wolf was urging him to move.  “She is our mate,” he said confused by the fact that he wasn’t doing anything about it. His power surged within him, and he could feel him taking over. The collar around his neck tightened as it usually did when his wolf rose. Fuck… “Give me a minute Karami,” William said. He understood his wolf’s excitement. He never thought he would meet his mate. Not when Gol held him captive. And now she was here… it was a miracle in itself. The chains rattled as William shot to his feet. She whimpered at the door scared of him. He was scaring her…shit.    William forced himself to calm down. There was nothing he could do about this anyway. She was all the way on the steps where he couldn’t reach her. That fact was frustrating his wolf. Karami wanted her close. William knew her being there was going to slowly drive him crazy. “Why are you here? Did Gol capture you,” William asked. His voice sounded louder than he meant it to be. She mumbled something softly, William could barely hear her. She said something about her brother leaving her there, but he was coming for her. Her brother? She had nothing to do with Gol? Relief washed over him. He was relieved that she wasn’t part of Gol’s grand plan to feed from him more. She had nothing to do with him or that demon. She was there by some miracle. Maybe God was finally looking down on him. He was lighting up his miserable existence. But why now…why here? No wonder she was scared of him. William felt for the old and plain clothes that covered his body and the long beard and hair that surely made him look like some cave man. He covered his face with his hands. His mate shouldn’t see him like this, chained to a wall. He slid down the wall and sat down. He was embarrassed that she saw him like this. Misery swirled within him. If Gol was there he would have a feast. He was giving off the darkest emotions. “When is your brother coming for you?” he asked suddenly wanting her gone. He didn’t want her there. This was the worst situation for him to meet his mate. She was quiet for a while that he thought she wouldn’t answer him.  “Soon,” she said sounding unsure. William wondered what was going on between her and her brother. Why did he leave her in here? He had so many question to ask her, but he didn’t want to form any attachment to her. He was already yearning for her. William remained silent. He leaned against the wall, and closed his eyes. Time went by. William felt the hours drag by. It will be dinner time soon. He thought as he got to his feet. The sound of a latch opening above filled the silence. Gol dropped food to him through a chute that was in the ceiling. It was high up. William had investigated the opening whenever Gol switched on the light. It was too high for him to jump up. But even if he managed to jump up, he couldn’t get too far anyway because of the curse the demon put on him. William stepped beneath the opening and opened his hand. He had learned the hard way the first time Gol send him food through the chute. Everything dropped down and became mush with a dusting of the dirt from the floor. He had learned to catch his food. He used his instinct to sense were it will drop. The packet of food dropped down, and he caught it. He moved to the wall and opened the packet. He turned to where his mate was sitting. She was probably hungry. He saw the moment she caught the scent of food. She shifted against the door. “You are going to have to come closer if you want the food. I can’t throw it to you because I can’t see you,” William said. “I’m fine.” Of course she was, William thought. There was no way in hell she was going to come close to him. He tried not to take it too personally. And started to eat. He left some of the food for her just in case she changed her mind. He set the packet aside and opened the bottle of water and took a healthy gulp. The night was going to grow cold soon. But it got colder down there, William thought worried for her. She wasn’t going to be comfortable on the steps the whole night. William tried to think of a way to get her to move. But he knew she wasn’t going to move even if he offered her his sleeping mattress. The blankets were clean. Gol had a strange obsession with his cleanliness. He might not groom him. But he made sure that he had water to wash his body and clean, though old, clothes to wear. He shifted feeling the cold already seeping through the wall he was leaning on. He got to his feet and walked towards the steps. She made a whimpering sound as he approached. “I am not going to do anything to you,” William said. He took a step back even though she couldn’t see her.  “It gets cold at night. You can’t stay there. Come let me show you where you can sleep.” “No,” she shouted. She got to her feet and slammed her fists on the door. “Let me out of her! Let me out. Jeremiah, I’ll do it. Please, don’t leave me in her with him,” she cried. William stood still listening to her scream. She screamed until her voice became hoarse and she became tired. She cried softly sounding hopeless, it broke William’s heart. “No one can hear you down here. There is no use. All you can do now is stay alive until your brother comes for you,” he said softly. He wanted to go to her and pull her into his arms. But she wouldn’t want him to. And beside the chains didn’t allow him to reach the steps. His wolf whine inside him urging him to comfort their mate. “I am trying, Karami,” William said to him. He didn’t know what else to do. “Come let me show you were you can sleep. You’re going to get cold on the steps.” She made a sound that sounded like irritation. “Does the word no mean nothing to you? Stop asking me. You are nothing to me. I don’t want your help.” You are nothing to me, the words hit something painful in his chest. She was his mate…but… Does this mean that she really didn’t feel the pull? he asked himself again, because he felt it pulse within him urging him… coaxing him to protect and take care of his mate. “Get away from me,” she shouted hysterically.  William clenched his jaw. “Okay, suit yourself,” he said moving to the mattress. He sat down, pulling the chains the next to the mattress so that they didn’t get tangled while he slept. He lay down and closed his eyes. The room went silent. Minutes ticked by, and sleep dragged him down into oblivion. He didn’t know how long he slept for when he startled awake. He blinked his eyes slowly wondering what woke him up. He lay still when he felt the lump leaning against him. His mate…  She was shivering, her body curved in a tight ball as she tried to get warm. How did she find the mattress in the dark? William asked himself as he slowly lifted his blanket and covered her. He thought the she will fling it away, but she didn’t move. She moaned leaning more into him seeking his warmth. Her body was so soft against him. She was all woman.   Her scent was everywhere around him. She was so close…awakening his every sense. He ignored his body’s reaction and forced himself to fall back to his sleep. It was easier said than done. His hands itched to pull her close. “Mate,” Karami shouted in his mind. He was so excited to have her so close. “Yes, she is,” William answered him, unable to deny it. He leaned close enough to smell her hair. He swallowed the groan that formed in his chest. She smelled so sweet, he thought trembling from the force of his reaction to her. He could so easily get addicted to him. …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….   Jeremiah paced the length of his room. His beta stared at him from the door. Benny understood him more than anyone ever did. He didn’t see his actions as being greedy. He was a visionary. And he wanted to lead a thriving pack. If that meant, he had to lose a few pack members to do that then so be it. “Do you trust the witch?” he asked. “No. But I need him right now. Sky was getting in the way of my plans. Putting her in that hole will make her think twice about refusing me.” “What about Reagan? Will he give you the money? Selling werewolves to humans is a shady business. What if the Alpha King finds out?” Jeremiah stopped his pacing. Sometimes Benny’s blunt questions made too much sense. But he didn’t want to hear it now. He was so close to making his pack one of the riches packs in the area. Once he reached that status Marcus will have no choice but to acknowledge him and put him in the alpha group that he dealt with on a daily basis. So far he hasn’t done that. The Green River pack was considered too small to be of significance. Jeremiah has been advised many times to merge with the Bluemoon pack, and be under alpha Fin. His parents before they died had considered it. But he wasn’t crazy. He was an alpha. He wasn’t going to bow to another alpha. And not one as stupid as alpha Fin. No. Never. He will make sure that the Green River pack rose from the ashes like a Phoenix. Just you wait, Jeremiah thought to himself. The sound of cars driving up to the house interrupted his musing. Benny moved to the window. He watched for a second before looking at him over his shoulder. “Were you expecting Reagan today?” he asked. Jeremiah shook his head as he moved to the window. “No,” he said as he watched Reagan get out of the car with a few men. “Are those the humans?” Benny asked sniffing the air that drifted through the window. Benny had a good nose. He was the one who caught Sky every time she tried to run away. Without he would have lost his asset a while ago. Jeremiah trusted him with everything. He narrowed his eyes on the human men and Reagan as they looked around. What was he doing back here so soon? he asked himself.
