Good or Bad?

Chapter 8 Good or Bad? I watched him walk away and towards the back of the school where there was a separate building for all the sports and gym classes. Jayce’s friend Leo was walking beside him. I felt a shiver go through my body when I thought about the way he stared at me. I looked back at Jayce, he was nodding to something that Leo had said and laughed. I continued to walk into the school. I needed to keep my distance from Jayce but there was something there that kept me still when he was near. I shook my head. I was starting to sound like a novel more than a teenager. I had to remember my age. I had spent this day trying to avoid Jayce again. It was a bit easier than I thought it would be, mostly because I had so much to do. It felt like joining Debate and Language club had been exactly what I needed. Clubs had been huge back at Bergmont too…not that we got a lot done in them, thanks to my friends. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “I’m bored!” Stone yelled out. I rolled my eyes. “Stone your always bored.” “Or hungry!” Ziva added with a smirk. I smiled. “That’s true too.” “No guys, I’m actually bored. What was the point of joining this environmental club?” Stone asked. I raised an eyebrow at him. “Stone, Ziva, and I wanted to join, you just happened to be following us and ended up signing your name without asking a question.” I reminded him. “Ya, you took my pen and just signed the sheet, not a second to read over what the sheet said.” Ziva said. Stone had this confused look on his face still. “Fine I signed up by accident, what are Sofia, Georgie and Roman doing here?” He asked me. I looked over at the three of them. They were still on the desks chatting away. “Good question, I want to know the same thing.” I told him. “Guys?” Stone said looking at them. Sofia looked up, “Oh are we ready to go grab dinner?” She asked. I tilted my head at her so confused. “What?” “Aren’t we waiting for you and Ziva to finish your assignment and then we’re heading into to town to grab dinner…right?” Sofia asked, looking at us all. “I am so confused and that’s a miracle.” Ziva stated. I rolled my eyes. “So let me get this straight. You guys just followed Ziva and I into the environmental club room without wondering what was going on?” “Club room? Are we joining a club?” Georgie asked. “No Georgie, no.” Ziva said shaking her head. “I love you fools…but seriously?” I asked them. “What?” Sofia said, still looking confused. I was shocked that these were some of the smartest people in this school. The Carson twins, Sofia and Stone had some of the highest IQs in the entire school. Ziva was a straight A student and the VP of the student body council. Roman was the best athletic pro the school had in a long time, he was on three different teams and kept his GPA at a 4.5. Georgie may look like a ditz but was a science prodigy. And me? I was an all rounder but what kept my interest was English, history and business classes that Bergmont offered. Instead of saying anything else, I just burst out laughing. It was actually funny. We were all smart…some would even say intelligent but we all had some weaknesses too. For one…none of us paid attention to what was going on around us and blindly followed our friends from one building to another without realizing. I looked at Ziva and she started to laugh too. “Come on guys, lets go get food. We’ll work on this later, right Ziva?” Ziva nodded at me and I stood up to put away the project we were planning for the club. “I don’t get it but lets go, I am starving!” Georgie said, jumping off the desk and pulling Roman up from his chair. “Me too!” Stone added. “We know, your always hungry!” Sofia said. “And bored.” Roman added. “Hey!” Stone yelled out pretending to be annoyed. He threw a arm around my shoulder and I couldn’t help but laugh. The one thing we did have in common was our understanding of Stone Carson.  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -  “Where are you lost?”   I looked over at Ophelia and smiled. “Nowhere.”   She gave me a look but turned back to focus on what Mrs. Pearson was saying.   My mind kept going to one of two places.   Home, which for me was Zurich and Bergmont and Jayce McKinney.   I had this pull towards him…I didn’t completely understand it but my best guess was his aura. He was friendly, rich, and popular. It was a rare combination out in the world. I had been used to it because most of the kids at Bergmont had been some type of crazy rich but Bergmont also had quite a few scholarship students but there wasn’t any discrimination, at least not any that I was aware of.   “Gross you’re here too!”   I looked up and saw Lilliana staring down at me.   “God, I wish you would just disappear already!” She stressed out dramatically.   I hadn’t realized Lilliana was in this club…I wouldn’t have joined if I knew.   “We all think it about you but you don’t hear us saying anything to you, do you?” Ophelia mimicked back.   “Gross, I wasn’t even talking to you.” Lilliana told her.   I shook my head.   “What? You don’t like what I said? Then why don’t you say something back? Or do you need Jayce here to defend you?” She asked. “God, I don’t know what Jayce sees in you. Your not even pretty! I’m warning you again, stay away from Jayce.   I wanted to get up and saying something to her…I really did but I knew better. I needed to stay calm and not react irrationally.   “You know what Lilliana, Ivy might be too nice to stay anything to you but I am not. You are a-   “Girls!” Mrs. Pearson shouted. “Stop bickering and take your seat Ms. Blythe, you’ve interrupted the class enough. We are here to discuss the upcoming language club event, not watch a rendition of mean girls take place in this room.”   I would have laughed if I wasn’t so scared of Lilliana.   She seemed to be getting worse with every interaction since the day I met her.  Lilliana walked away and went to take a seat with a different group.   “Why didn’t you say anything to her?” Ophelia asked.   I shrugged. “What’s the point? I want to stay away from Jayce anyway and I also don’t want to fight with Lilliana. I want to keep my head down and just do my work.” I explained to my new friend.   Ophelia shook her head, “Too late for that.”   “What?” I asked confused by her response.    Ophelia just shook her head at me.   What did she mean by it’s too late?   Was it about my issues with Lilliana or Jayce?   I turned my head back to look at Lilliana, only to find her staring daggers at me. If this was a cartoon she would have steam coming out of her eyes, I could guarantee it.   I turned my head back around and focused on my work.   I had to stop getting distracted.  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -    I had managed to avoid Jayce for the rest of the day and when school ended, April had found me and pulled me out the door before I could say bye to Ophelia.   She seemed off…maybe stressed?   April pulled me out to the parking lot and to her car. “I’m coming over!” She said walking around to the driver’s side and hoping in.   I was confused but I got into the car as well.   April and I made it to my house in record time.   She was so quiet on the drive over, I was actually really worried about her.   I didn’t want to pry but I knew that she was upset over something and maybe talking would help. I just didn’t know how to do it with some I didn’t know all that well.   April and I had been friends for just a few days. It wasn’t the same as having the same group of friends since we were 6 years old. April was so sweet though. It was hard seeing her like this.   We parked on the street in front of my house and April got out quickly and walked to the front door.   I followed behind her and watched her ring the doorbell.   I was so busy watching April’s strange behavior, I didn’t pull out my key, but Bella opened the door.   “Girls! April, it’s nice to see you again.” Bella said with a smile.   April nodded, “You to Bella.” She said in a low voice.   April walked passed Bella and into the house as I made my way up the steps, stopping in front of my sister.   “What’s wrong with your friend?” She asked me.   “I have no idea, but I’m going to go find out.” I told her.   Bella nodded and let me walk past her. I followed April up the stairs and into my bedroom.   I shut the door behind me and walked over to sit beside my friend on the bed.   “April?” I said quietly at first.   April didn’t respond, she just sat there, looking lost in her thoughts.   “April?” I asked a bit more loudly this time, and I placed a hand on her shoulder.    April shook her head.   “April I’m really worried about you. Are you alright?” I asked again.   She finally looked at me and nodded her head.   “Your fine?”   “I will be, just needed a few minutes to set everything up in my head.” She said smiling at me.   “Set up what?” I asked confused, as always.    April shook her head again. “Nothing, I just had a bad end to a good day. You tell me, did you talk everything out with Jayce?”   “What? No, I told you I’m keeping my distance from him. I’m already dealing with Lilliana hating me for being at the school, if she sees me near Jayce, she’ll cut off my head!” I said waving my hands around.   April waved her hand at me.    “Anyway, tell me what was bothering you, maybe I can help?” I told her.   “Unfortunately, my problem isn’t something you can help me with.” April answered.   “Why not?” I asked.   “It’s something I have to deal with on my own, and I will. Don’t worry about it!” She exclaimed.   I watched my friend put on a fake smile and it really bothered me that April, who was so lively and high spirited was going through something that she couldn’t even share.   “Just tell me this, is it good or bad?” I asked.   “Bad.”   “Is it bad or really bad?”   “…I guess really bad.” - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -  (Bella)   “Hello?”   “Ms. Matthews?” The person on the other end of the line asked.   “Yes?”   “I have an opportunity for you I think you will not want to pass on.”   “Excuse me?”   “Can you come to my office tomorrow morning?” He asked.   “What is this concerning?”   “This is for the architect internship you applied for.” The man answered.   “Oh! Oh, I apologize, I didn’t-   “Don’t worry about it, just be at my office at 8am sharp tomorrow morning.”   “Yes I will be there.”
