{Kaly’s POV}     Standing on the stage next to my mother, watching my handsome man walk onto the stage made my heart swell. I watched with pride as dad introduced him as the future Gamma, seeing the pack accept him and cheer, made the butterflies in my stomach flutter.     I walked off the stage after dad said to celebrate and I knew Maddox would find me and later we would celebrate our own way. I walk to the dessert table thinking of all the dirty ways to celebrate. I pick up some of the food and place it on a plate. “Those are some nice earrings. May I enquire where you got them?” Maddox whispered in my ear causing me to jump a little and sent shivers through my body.     “Oh these. They are a gift from this really hot guy who likes me.” I say with a wink and Maddox lets out a hearty laugh. We stand there and talk and snack. Suddenly I hear, “Would you like to dance?” Tanner asked and caught me off guard. Maddox looked like he was going to tell Tanner off as usual, but he didn’t.     “I guess.” I say with a shrug. Maddox just smiled a fake smile and let Tanner lead me onto the dance floor. “So beautiful are you having a good time?” Tanner asked as he spun me out. “It’s a nice party, so yeah I guess I am.” I said as he spun me back in close to him.     I have to admit Tanner sure can dance. He was sweeping me off my feet when I noticed all the giggling going on. I look over to see Maddox with Vicki. She was giggling up a storm and Maddox was spinning her all around. “You really like him, don’t you?” I look up to see Tanner looking over at Maddox and Vicki.     “Sorry Tanner, it’s not that you aren’t a good guy but, yeah I do.” I smile meekly at him. “It’s ok. He seems like a decent guy I guess.” He smiles and kisses my cheek. “I’m gonna go.” He says turning and walking away dejected. I turn to leave the dance floor and run into a wall of muscle.     “I’m so sorry.” I say looking up into the prettiest brown eyes I’ve ever seen. “It’s alright I was coming to ask if you wanted to dance.” He chuckles. He has a nice laugh. I smile and nod. I remember Jacob telling us his name, but I can’t remember it. ‘Mason, Benson, Jackson… that’s it Jackson.’     “Alpha Jackson, right?” I ask shyly up at him. “Yes, that’s my name, but I’m not alpha yet. Your Kalysta, right?” He asks and I nod. “Kaly, you can call me Kaly.” I say smiling. “Kaly. I like it.” He smiles sweetly at me. He spins me around and we are all over the dance floor in no time. If I thought Tanner could dance, this man is putting his skills to shame.     “So what brings you to our pack?” I ask interested as to why I’ve seen him at our pack twice now. “Business. My father and your Father have business to hash out tonight.” He smiles softly at me. The song ends and he steps back and takes my hand and kisses my knuckles. “I will see you later.” With that he walks away.     I go grab some food and sit at a table and find Maddox and Vicki are still having a ball. I eat and watch them. Maddox will make a crazy good father one day. I smile and watch as he carefully holds her and spins her lovingly.     “Kalysta, there you are.” I hear my mother’s shrill voice. “Yes, mother here I am.” I roll my eyes at her. “Come with me please your father wants you.” She says with her hands on her hips. I follow her without complaint. We walk into the conference room and I see my dad talking with Alpha Jackson senior.     “Kalysta sweetie have a seat.” He says with a smile and I sit.  A few minutes later future Alpha Jackson Jr. walks in and smiles at me before he takes the seat across the table from me. Two minutes later in walk Jacob, Garrett, and Maddox. ‘Now it’s a freaking party. What the hell?’ I think to myself.     “Gentlemen have a seat.” My dad says as he points at the chairs for the boys. My dad is at the head of the table and Alpha Jackson is on his right with his son next to him. My mother is on the left of my father and I am next to her. Jacob, Garrett, and Maddox are in the next three chairs on our side of the table.     “Alpha Jackson Blalock and his son, Jackson Jr. are here for a peace treaty. There was a peace treaty between the Moonstone pack and the Moonlight pack before, but things happened, and it wasn’t continued.” He sighed pinching the bridge of his nose.     “Now we are going to sign into a treaty again. We are going to help each other maintain balance. There have been more and more rogue attacks as of late, and we need good allies to help protect the packs. In doing so we are solidifying the treaty with a marriage.” My blood drains from my face. I know what is coming.     My mother stood and went to stand behind my father with a wicked smile. “Kalysta Flores will be marrying future Alpha Jackson Blaylock Jr. in 3 months’ time.” The breath was sucked from my lungs and I feel like I’m falling. Tears well in my eyes and I’m about to burst.     “Kalysta dear I know this is sudden, but it’s for the betterment of both packs.” My father said to me like he truly believed his words. “Yes Father.” I say bowing my head in defeat. ‘I mean what am I supposed to say to that?’ “Alright well dear all of your things have been packed and you will leave tonight.” My mother smiles sweetly at me. ‘This fake ass b***h. How can she be so cruel? Wait did she just say I’m leaving tonight?’     “What?! You said in 3 months we would marry.” I shout at her. “Yes, dear but you need time to get to know your affianced. So I suggested you go tonight. You will leave right after dinner, which will be in 30 minutes.” She smiled again. And I‘m going to rip that smile from her face.     I walk numbly down the hallway and go up to my room to wait for dinner. I was going to change but remembered my mother had my room packed up. I look around and everything is gone. My room is nothing but furniture and there are no signs of life. Except my teddy bear I won at the carnival.     ‘Of course mom didn’t have them pack it.’ I roll my eyes. ‘What is her f*****g problem?’ I huff and plop down on the bed. I grab the bear and hold it to my chest. I feel nothing but pain. My heart was being torn in two holding my teddy bear.     A knock on the door brings me out of my daze. I get up and go to the door expecting my mother to be here to drag me to dinner. I swing the door open and see those beautiful brown eyes staring at me. “Hey, can I come in?” He asks with a small friendly smile. I nod and open the door more and Jackson walks in.     I walk back to my bed and sit down. I pick my teddy bear back up and hug him to my chest. Jackson walks over to the window seat. He looks at me with sadness in his eyes. “Look Kaly I know this isn’t what you wanted in life…” He paused and looked out the window again. “Hell it’s not what I wanted either, but I promise you I will make you happy, if you’ll let me.” He sighed and came and sat down next to me.     “We can at least be friends, if we will eventually be man and wife.” He shrugged. I can still see the sadness in his eyes. “I can be your friend. I mean if we have to do this anyway it’d be nice to know you aren’t a complete asshole.” I chuckle, which gets a laugh from Jackson. “Good you can call me Jax.” He put his arm around my shoulder and side hugged me.     It was nice to sit next to him and him be so sweet. We were both stuck in this mess might as well be nice to each other. “So your 20? That’s what I heard anyway. Where is your mate?” I blurt out kind of forcefully. After Jax stops laughing he looks at me and shrugs. “I am 20 and I don’t know where my mate is. I haven’t met her yet.”     I sit there and think about how he would know if he was my mate. “What is with this teddy bear? What’s his name?” Jax asked tugging at my bears legs. I smile brightly and then remembered I will never see Maddox again. “I won him at a carnival. His name is Maddox.” I sigh. “Maddox like the future Gamma, Maddox?” Jax probed.     “Yes.” I say looking down at my lap. “Hey it’s ok. We are friends, we can talk about it if you want.” He looks at me with care. I don’t know why but I know he means it. “I love Maddox.” I blurt out and immediately blush. “Does he feel the same?” Jax asks looking a little hurt. “Yes.” I lay my head on my pillow.     “Well is he your mate?” Jax asks rubbing his hand against my leg in a very caring and not creepy way. “We don’t know yet, we are both 17.” I sigh and let a tear slip. “That’s why my dad and your mom were so adamant about you leaving tonight. When do you turn 18?” He looks at me as I sit back up. “The 28th and Maddox turns 18 the day before.” I sigh and slump my shoulders. “Wait my mother wants me gone?” I start to cry.     “Yes, her and my father have talked every day since the beseeching day ceremony. It was her idea to seal the treaty with a marriage like in the old days.” He says and pulls out a handkerchief and hands it to me. I wipe my tears and look at him. “What do we do?” He looks lost in thought.     “Well clearly she packed everything in your room except this teddy bear, so she clearly has a problem with you and Maddox being close.” He smiles a wicked smile and I see the wheels turning. “Bring the bear to dinner with us.” He says with a wink.     “What about my birthday?” I ask and his eyes sadden again. “I can’t do anything about the marriage, because my father wont hand over the title of Alpha, until our wedding has taken place. We will proceed with their plans for now, but I promise we will find out if Maddox is your mate, one way or another and we will go from there. All you gotta do is trust me.” He says standing and brushing out his suit.     “I just met you. How do I know if I can trust you?” I ask wiping my face one last time. “You don’t know, but you’re gonna have to try.” He says with a wink. “Now let’s go down to dinner and aggravate our parents.” He says holding his hand out to me. I take it and he helps me up. We walk out of the room arm in arm, with my teddy bear in tow.       When we walk into the dining room it is clear it will only be us and our parents for dinner. My mom was smiling when she saw us together, but her smile turned to a scowl when she saw my teddy was with us. “Kalysta put the retched teddy bear back in your room and lets have dinner like a normal family.” She narrows her eyes at me.     I stiffen and I feel Jax flex his arm. “She will do no such thing.” He smiles down at me as I look at him in disbelief. He really was going to be a good friend. Even if we have to be together not wanting to, I have a feeling we will be ok. “Listen I don’t know why she likes that ratty thing, but this is a dinner table not a playroom. The bear doesn’t belong.” My mom glares at us.     “Luna Rosa, with all due respect, my fiancé and I are still coping with things and whatever makes her feel more comfortable at this moment is what I intend to let her have.” He said matter of factly and tugged me towards our seats.     I sat in my seat and put the bear on my lap. Jax was sitting next to me and he was smiling at how mad we had just made my mom. He is going to make an amazing friend. My dad and Alpha Jackson walk in and my dad looks at all of us and smiles. “Well I see our children are getting along.” He smiles at my mom and then at Alpha Jackson.     “It seems so.” My mother smiles a fake smile and then glares at me. Jax giggles and she glares at him. Dinner is served and it is my favorite meal. Just like my mother to remind me of what I’ll be missing once I’m gone. I ate the lasagna like it was my last meal ever. “Slow down my sweet before you make yourself sick.” Jax chuckled and I glared at him.     “What you don’t like my nickname I picked for you?” He laughed more boyishly this time. “Not really.” I laugh. “Well we will have to figure out a name for you my little flower.” He smiles and I gasp. “What? Is something wrong?” He asks looking worried. “No. That’s just what my dad calls me. His little flower.” I sigh.     Jax places his hand on mine and gives it a soft squeeze. “I’m sorry we have to do all this.” He whispers. “But once I’m alpha we will fix it.” He smiles at me and I nod with a smile. We finish eating and we all say our goodbyes and my parents sadly are very distant. I understand why my mother is, but my dad, that kind of hurts.     As we are walking out of the house Jax leans over to me and whispers, “Just go with whatever I say. Trust me.” “Ok.” I smile up at him. He takes my hand and laces our fingers together. We walk out the front door. “Dad could you ride in the SUV with Kaly’s things?” His dad looks taken back. “My fiancé and I would like some more time to get to know each other if you know what I mean.” He winks at his dad.     He squeezes my hand and I giggle and slap his arm playfully, while his father regards us. “Sure son.” Alpha Jackson chuckles and shakes his head. “I knew she was a good choice.” He smiles climbing into the SUV. He wraps me in a hug and whispers in my ear, “Now we will be alone, and we can talk about plans and such without fear of anyone listening.” He leans and kisses my forehead and I look to see my parents watching.     We walk to the other SUV and I stop to wave to my parents. As I turn to climb in the Explorer, I hear Jacob yell. “WAIT!” I turn and see all my boys and Sara and Lylah running to me. I was swarmed in a huge group hug. The girls were crying which opened the flood gates for me.     “Mom and Dad are so cruel to do this to you.” Jacob shouts and hugs me again. “I’m going to miss you like crazy girl.” Sara cries as she hugs me. She backs up and Jacob wraps her in a hug, and she buries her face in his chest. “I know we didn’t always “Love” each other but you are like the little sister I never had. And I’m gonna miss you.” Garrett says with tears in his eyes.     Lylah walks up and she smiles with tears falling from her eyes. “I know we just got to know each other but I’m going to miss you.” She said as she hugged me and cried. She stepped back and just like with Sara and Jacob, Lylah was wrapped up by Garrett. ‘Must be nice to be with the one you want.’ I could hear the party from the ceremony still going behind the house.     They all walked away, and mom and dad had disappeared, must have went back to the party. It was just me, Maddox and Jax now. “Kaly, I wish I could change this. I will miss you the most and you know why.” He says letting tears slip down his face. I wrap him in a tight hug and whisper to him. “Jax knows why too Mad, and we will find a way to be together.” I feel his smile in my neck. He places a soft kiss on my marking spot, and I shiver. “I will love you forever Kaly. I’ll never stop.” He whispers in my ear and walks away. ‘Me too Maddox, me too.’     I climb into the SUV and start sobbing. Once Jax is in the SUV he has his driver close the divider, he turns to look at me. “Are you going to be ok?” He asks sweetly. “I don’t know.” I sob and he pulls me into a hug. I cry for a while and he just lets me. He calmly strokes my hair down my back and holds me close. Soon I fall asleep. I know when I wake, I will be starting a new life and Jax and I will be husband and wife in 3 months’ time.
