Chapter 5

I think they expected me to be fragile and hurt over the situating with Olli but honestly I was just so unbelievably angry with him. Knowing Will had put him in the hospital made me feel better but now more than ever I needed to know who this guys was. This beautiful, tall and mysterious hero of mine from the bar. Why was he there at exactly that time? Who was he? Why did he save me? What did he say that made Olli go back? So many unanswered questions burned in my brain. "Hey, Will, do you know who that guy was who saved me last night?" I asked. "No, Evie, he didn't say and I don't think I've seen him around before." I was even more perplexed. "Mom, did he tell you anything when he brought me home?" she looked at me and thought for a moment... "as a matter of fact, he said his name was Gabe, I think. That's all I can recall though" she smiled. Well, it was a starting point and it brought me a lot closer than I was last night to knowing. Gabe... sexy. Mysterious. Gabe. I enjoyed it. I figured the best way to find out who he was, was to ask around. This town knows everything about it's people and I was sure they'd know him, besides, without a surname social media was of no help. I got dressed into a lilac summer dress with my second day curls hanging down and I clipped some hair away either side of my head at the top with lilac slides. I popped on my flip flops and decided to head to see some old friends. The town was just as I remembered it and as I drove through I felt so much nostalgia about my childhood. I played in these playgrounds, watched movies in the theatre and hung out at the local junkyard and surrounding forest. It was good to be home and my heart felt so full. Driving through main street, casually looking around at the shops and people, I suddenly saw him. There! Right there. Gabe. I quickly parked up and followed him into the vet clinic. I approached the desk once I couldn't see him in the waiting room and asked the lovely woman behind the desk. She was probably in her late thirties or early forties, with those glasses that hang from crystal beads around her neck. Her face was warm and inviting, she looked kind. "Excuse me, ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you but a man just came in here. Tall, dark and handsome. Blue eyes and facial hair. He saved my life last night and I never got a chance to repay him." I hoped for an answer that would help me. "Oh, that's Doctor Parker, dear. He's our head vet here at the clinic." she said. Her accent seemed more southern, and I didn't recognise her so I figured she must not have been here too long. "It's definitely him if this guy saved your life, that man was born to help people. I'll call him and see if he's busy." I waited. Her name tag read Amanda. Exactly the kind of name you'd expect from someone who seemed so loving. It suited her. After a few second on the phone she came back. "He said he'd be down in just a moment, sweetie, you can have a seat if you like." I took a seat in the seating area, my mind racing. I was... nervous. The sitting room was empty and seemed so clean and sterile. I mean, that's exactly what you would want from somewhere treating animals, but it made me more nervous being in this setting. After what seemed like forever to me, but what realistically was probably only around 10 minutes, he appeared. He was as beautiful as I remembered. Maybe more so now we were in good light and I wasn't inebriated. He almost glowed he was so magnetic. I felt the tingle in my body. "Hi", he said. "When do you get off, can I buy you a coffee?" I said, without even thinking it through. I don't know why I said it and I wished I could just put the words back I my mouth as soon as they left. He smiled and my stomach filled with butterflies. I could feel my body responding, but he hadn't done anything. What was going on? "My lunch is in about 45 minutes. I'll buy the coffee", he said. "Meet me at the coffee shop at the end of the street. I have to get back... dog needs a cast on his leg. I'll see you there?" he questioned. I nodded and he smiled before he turned and left. As I was leaving Amanda gave me a look of approval and a thumbs up and I couldn't help but smile excitedly. Gabe Parker. Gabe Parker. I said it again and again. Even his name was obnoxiously gorgeous.
