The bell above the door rang pulling me from my trance. I realised I was staring out of the window, situated at the table in front of it. I was watching life go by without knowing. I was completely dissociated. He slipped his coat on the back of the chair opposite me and slid into it. His face was so beautiful. I had a chance to truly look at him as he got himself seated. His hair was thick and dark, pushed back on his head. His jaw was strong and worked it's way to a cleft on this chin. When he smiled at me I got butterflies. The smile reached his big, blue eyes, framed in dark lashes. In this light he looked less mysterious and more kind. His voice felt like summer rain when you're in your room reading a book. Bliss.
"What are you drinking?", he asked. I mentally shook myself out of the light-headedness I found myself in.
"Latte, please. Caramel shot and cream", he smiled again. Oh, Lord... what was this man doing to me. I felt the familiar feeling from the bar. Was I... turned on? What in the world?
He arose from the seat and made his way to the counter to be served. I drooped my head into my hands having a mental conversation with myself to play it cool and not be an absolute train wreck. It was already painfully obvious he was effecting me... I had to keep control. A minute of so later, he returned. Propping his arms up on the table and interlocking his fingers under his chin, I had the chance to see his signet ring. Angel wings. It certainly seemed fitting. He was an angel.
"Your ring is beautiful", I said, shyly.
"Thank you. I've had it many years." he laughed. Many years? The guy was no older than 30 and spoke like he had 70 years under his belt.
"So you're a vet?" I asked.
"Yeah, we just moved our clinic here about a year ago" he said. Explains why I hadn't seen him before, I would have still been away when he moved here. So why did he seem so familiar to me?
"You look so familiar to me, I thought maybe I knew you in my childhood. I guess not, though", I chuckled. He scrunched up his nose and bit his lip. Lord have mercy on me. I promise I will be good for the rest of my life, I will pray every single night if you please just help me keep my cool around this man. I found myself getting shy, for some reason. When I saw him lick his bottom lip, the redness crept along my neck. I could feel the heat radiating from my skin.
Saved by the bell.
"Two lattes, caramel and cream", the waitress declares. She looks at him and smiles in a flirtatious way. Excuse me, lady, please stop eye humping this man before you're wearing my coffee, I thought. Wait, he's not even mine. Calm down, Evelyn. He looks to her and back and me, paying no mind to her advances and flashes his pretty smile, running his fingers through his hair.
"You drink the same as I do?", I asked, surprised.
"Uh, yeah. I was surprised when you told me your order", he said. "Not many people like a drink so sweet."
"Exactly, people always think I'm crazy for adding sugar, too", I say as we both reach to the pile of sugars and stirrers, the waitress had placed on the table, at the same time. He chuckles at me and I blush. Then he turns his attention to the waitress still standing there. She was tall and slim, with short, dark, wavy hair to the base of her jaw, just below her ears and short bangs about halfway down her forehead. She wore round glasses and had a loose fitting white tee, black jeans and black loafers on with a beige coloured apron around her middle. He stares at her and after an awkward few moments of her smiling at him, he clears his throat and asks if he can help her with anything. She realises and apologises before returning to the counter to continue serving.
"I just wanted to thank you for your help last night", I finally spat out. I almost instantly felt his eyes on me as I stirred my coffee and took a sip. When I looked up I fixated on his steel blue eyes. He smiled.
"Of course. I guess I was just at the right place at the right time to help out", he says, pushing his hair back on his head. My hairs stood up on the back on my neck. I loved watching him do that. He looked into my eyes and for a second I thought I should turn away but I don't.
"I'm sure anyone would have helped if they saw it", he said. But it wasn't just anyone, was it? No, Gabe. It was you. A guardian angel, a Knight in shining armour. He chuckled, sexually. If that is even a possibility. It was almost as if he could hear my thoughts. Don't be so silly, Evie. He licked his bottom lip and took a sip. I bit mine. He noticed and smiled into his coffee cup. He knew what he was doing to me. He liked what he was doing to me. I shifted in my chair feeling the hot flush return and the newly acquired moisture between my thighs. I crossed my legs. We sat there in silence for a moment just looking at each other so intently. He breaks away.
"Besides, that guy was only trying something because he thought you were alone. He didn't have two words to say to me. I bet he didn't say anything to your boyfriend either" he said. Boyfriend? I looked at him, confused. He notices and continues.
"The guy you came to the bar with last night. Tall, curly hair" he said. I couldn't hold it together. I laughed, a lot. I thought maybe I would make him uncomfortable but he smiled.
"Wow, what a beautiful laugh you have. If your smile was pretty, your laugh is incredible", he smiled. I stop, feeling shy
"No, don't stop. I didn't mean to make you feel awkward", he said. I looked into his eyes. I can't read him.
"That's not my boyfriend, you know?" I finally say. It stops him mid sip.
"That's my brother, Will" I continue. He likes that answer and I temporarily contemplate if it would be shameful for me to just let him take me right now. Yes. Yes Evelyn, that would be shameful, stop thinking like that. I think about if he would be rough or slow. Maybe he'll hold my hands up above head as he kisses me and nibbles my neck. Maybe he would slowly undo my buttons on my sundress to reveal my perky breasts and pink n*****s. Maybe he would nibble those too.
"Hey, can you hear me?" he asks. I'm reminded of where I am and he chuckles. Oh my God, what is wrong with me? I shake my head and apologise, I don't know what has gotten into me. It almost feels like I've tasted his lips before and I know he tastes like the feeling of eating watermelon on a really hot day or the feeling of a cold can of Coke on your head on a 105⁰ day. Just completely intoxicating and refreshing. The kinda feeling you don't want to end. I stare at his lips and lick mine. He almost chokes on his coffee. I can feel the s****l tension and I know he can, too. Maybe he's into b*****e, or edging or something sexy like that. STOP IT, EV! He finishes his coffee and looks at his watch.
"I have to go. There's a cat in for injections in 10 minutes" he finally says as he takes the last sip. I'm almost saddened by the realisation, but he goes one step further.
"What are you doing tonight?" he asks. I'm almost dumbfounded.
"Are you asking me on a date?" I reply.
"Only if you want to, its cool if n..." he doesn't finish the sentence.
"Yes! Yes... I would like to go on a date with you" I say a little too eagerly and wince at my reaction.
"Cool. I finish at 5 so I'll pick you up at 7?" he says. I smile and he leaves me there.
