Seeing her dodge his attack, Alaric's wolf, Devin, didn't even blink as he twisted his body and charged at Nailiah once more. However, Kent got to him first.
Kent tackled Devin to the floor, wrapping his arms around his torso. Nailiah used that distraction and flipped backwards.
Landing on her feet like a nimble cat, the older woman quickly rushed to the other room. A few seconds after, she came out with a syringe and stuck it in the struggling Devin's neck.
'Five, four, three, two, one.' Nailiah counted, and the struggling ceased. He was knocked out.
"What I just gave him will keep him knocked out for twelve hours straight." Nailiah explained. Kent sighed, letting go of his son and glance towards Nailiah.
"Tell me," Kent began as he rubbed his aching forehead. "Can we even do this?"
"The wolf recognizes the child, we can kill it. But Devin will rampage for it." Nailiah stressed.
"Then what about his mate?" Lily asked, she glanced at her unconscious son with a complicated gaze.
"I don't know, god dammit." Nailiah cursed out in frustration. "This has never happened before. I have no idea what this means."
"Then what can you tell us?" Maya was the one to ask this. The three of them kept their gazes on Nailiah.
"What I can tell you?" Nailiah asked rhetorically before answering her own question." I can tell you that you and Alaric just f****d over not only yourselves and mates. But several other people, including these two."
Hearing that, Maya lowered her head and clutched the blanket wrapped around her tightly. It took all her will power not to cry. She shouldn't have give in that day. She should have stopped him.
A stupid thing she did, even as her wolf shouted at her to not do it. In weeks the wolf ignored her, today was the first time she heard her voice in weeks, and it was filled with sorrow as she and Jace locked eyes.
Maya crumbled to the floor, even as strong as she pretended to be on the way here. It felt like someone was repeatedly stabbing her in the chest with a hot branded knife.
"f**k!" Maya sobbed into her hands. A stupid mistake is not only going to ruin her life, but many others. Nailiah and the others could only watch the tearful young woman break down.
Lily wanted to comfort her, but when she thought about the mess that began with her son and this girl, she felt light-headed. Not only this f**k up was massive, it had the potential to f**k them into their next lives as if this was known to the council.
Lily sat down, her head fell into her hands. Her head was spinning faster and faster. They all knew of the council that's set in their ways. They all care about werewolf tradition. If the child couldn't be killed, then it will be born, but who knew of those heretics' methods to bring the mates together again. Or even if the child would live after birth.
'Knock, knock.'
Broke the silence among those four. Kent looked at Alaric and grabbed him before dragging him to the other room and placing him on a bed. He then moved to the still sobbing Maya and helped her up and place her in the other empty bed before closing the door behind him.
Kent made his way to sit next to Lily, he pulled his mate into his embrace and nodded at Nailiah who went to open the door.
There stood Bryson, and behind him stood the Dale and Maddox parents. Aurora and Jace understandably need more medical attention, and their siblings went to stay with them until their parents returned.
"Alpha, the Francis family is two minutes out, I'll go bring them here." Bryson glanced into the office and saw its messy state. Whatever went on in here and whatever that was going to happen, Bryson wanted no part of it.
He quickly turned and left, The two couples didn't greet Kent and Lily. They only stepped in with heavy expressions. It was a huge disrespect towards the leaders of the pack. Yet to be honest, they couldn't be entirely blamed.
The silence was even heavier as the last person that entered closed the door. It was so thick that you cut the silence with a knife.
The Dale and Maddox couples stayed standing, each of them standing with their respective mates. Not uttering a word, just standing before their alpha and luna with heavy expressions.
Nailiah felt awkward and wanted to break the silence, but thought against it. She could somewhat understand what these pair of parents were feeling right now.
From what she deduced from the past few minutes, and from what Lily told her when she brought in Alaric. The people in her office were the parents of Alaric and Maya's mates, respectively.
As the head pack doctor and an elder of the pack, she knew the Maddox couple well. The Dale couple she knew because they came to this pack twenty-something years ago.
Anderson was the strongest alpha wolf she had laid her eyes on, back then and now. She may not know the specifics about him and why he would choose to give up the title of pack alpha to cast himself under a weaker alpha wolf.
But she did know he chose to stay away from serious pack duties, like becoming a warrior and such. She did recall some rumors about him in the past. Before she could think deeper on it, knocking disturbed the silence in the room.
Knowing it was Bryson, Kent directly ordered him to enter through the mind link. Bryson opened the door and stepped in. Behind him were the Francis couple, Maya's mom and dad. The couple bowed to their alpha and luna quietly.
They had no clue why they were here, out of everyone in the room they were clueless as to what went on in the parking lot. The mates seeing Anderson And Renee went over to their side to stand.
Maya's parents were actually good friends of Anderson and Renee's. That's how the two girl became close in the first place, through their parents. Having brought them in, Bryson wanted to turn tail and leave, but Kent stopped him in his tracks.
"Where are you going, Bryson? Shut the door." Bryson wanted to shed tears. This group, he wanted nothing to do with. Bryson could only cry internally as he shut the door and stood in front of it.
"I've called you here to discuss what happened today." Kent began, "But first allow us to apologize."
"I'm so sorry that my son has done something so unforgivable." Kent bowed his head to Jace and Anderson respectively. It was a serious thing for the alpha of a pack to bare his neck to you.
It showed his seriousness and sincerity towards the families, but it wasn't enough. As neither of them responded to it.
"So now what? Are you going to kill that thing or not?" Jason snorted at Kent before asking, he could care less about their apologies. They can shove it up their asses for all he cared.
"As it stands, I don't think we can kill that baby." Kent declared. Jason face expression shifted as he gritted his teeth. It took all his might not to lash out, but his mate didn't even try, she launched herself towards the sitting Alpha and luna pair.
Luckily, Jason caught her and wrapped his arms around her. Hailey went through barrages of emotions in that few seconds before she broke down again.
"Alpha," Maya's dad George was confused. What the hell was going on? Anderson wasn't even responding to his questions. "Why are we here?"
"Your good daughter f****d the alpha's son. They had the audacity to do it without protection, and she's pregnant with the firstborn child of the heir to the Lunar pack." Renee snarkily replied before Kent could. A look of horror made it way onto George's face.
"No way," Maya's mother Faith denied. "What nonsense are you talking about, May is not like that. You of all people should know that!"
"Oh," Renee clicked her tongue, "Why the f**k do you think you're here? You think you're important enough to be called here for nothing, to just listen?"
"Enough!" Kent shouted, "What Renee is saying is true. Maya is with child. Maya's mate is Jace Maddox, Alaric's mate is Aurora Dale. Not one person in here is unrelated."
'I beg to differ," Thought Bryson to himself, 'I definitely have no business being here. The head doctor I get but me? A silly, lovable Delta? I rather do paperwork.'
