Lachian New Orleans 1823 Cora had been in and out of consciousness for the past twelve hours. What had started off as a headache only a few days ago and quickly spiraled. One of the older women who worked in the master's house had heard rumors of a disease that was quickly spreading through the city. She said the lady of the house had told her how lucky we were to be immune to it.  Watching my sweet Cora crying tears of blood and coughing up bloody phlegm leaves me to disagree. A day ago the others stopped coming to check on her. They were afraid to catch whatever this was and be doomed to the same fate. As for me, I prayed that the sickness would take me as well.
