One by one Tyler and I went to our classes. Sitting in our final math class together I stared at the clock waiting anxiously for the final minute to end. Then the final bell rang and I cooley began hastily putting my things away, trying not to look too desperate to get out of class. Once I had all my things put away I rose to my feet and told Tyler I'd wait outside for him.
"Are you ready?" Tyler said as he one-strapped his back pack over his shoulder.
I nodded my head. I couldn't believe I was hanging out with someone. Especially when that someone was a friend. And a boy. Weird... When did I start liking boys? Wait, maybe it was just because he was my first friend that wasn't Jacob or grandpa or my aunts and uncles. Yeah that's it.
I walked beside him to the parking lot.
"So do you drive?" he glanced sideways at me.
I nodded my head. "Yeah-" I lied. I didn't know yet but I would know this weekend. "I don't have a car though."
"Why?"
Why didn't I have a car? I needed to think of a good reason and fast!
"Uh car accident." I said quickly.
"When? Did you get hurt?" his forehead creased.
I shook my head. "It was during Christmas when we were visiting family in Alaska. My uncle wanted to test drive it and drove it into a ditch." I smirked thinking of uncle Emmett. That's for hurting my feelings during the baseball game which I won for us.
"Bummer."
I shrugged my shoulders. I really hated lying. Why do I have to lie... especially to my first friend since my life started.
"It's whatever. For now atleast I have my driver." I said casually.
We were near the front of the school where Roxette had dropped me off. There sitting in the same spot was the limosuine.
I stopped and turned to Tyler. "Do you want a ride?"
"Sure."
I walked across the lawn to the limosuine. Just as I was three feet away Roxette opened it. I climbed inside and then he followed.
When the door closed the interior lights came on and Tyler let out a long low whistle.
"Wow!" He breathed.
"I know right."
We chatted more on our way to the mall. Tyler asked if I had another other siblings and I said no but added my twin cousins from my aunt and uncle Emmett and Rosalie. He in turn confessed that he was an only child because his mother and sister died for reasons he didn't delve into.
When we pulled up outside the mall Roxette opened the door for us and explained to me that my mother and father should be along fairly soon. I thanked her and then we headed inside.
Tyler pulled out his phone as it began to ring. "Dad?" He murmered.
"Where the f**k are you!" I heard his father shout into the end of the phone.
Tyler glanced at my shocked expression and held up his index finger before he walked several yards to our left.
"Dad I'm at the mall."
There was a long pause and Tyler's expression was pained. I wish I had perfect hearing like my father and mothers so then I would still be able to hear what was being said to him.
"I'm sorry dad. Please...."
Another pause.
"Okay... bye." He hung up the phone and took a seat on the bench to his left.
I could tell something wasn't right because of the way he slouched with his head in his hands. Carefully I walked over to his side and took a seat beside him.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
When he looked up at me I saw the pain in his eyes. It looked like he was holding back tears only it irritated his eyes and turned them red.
"Oh I'm fine. Just some.... stuff." He smiled at me and then rose to his feet. Taking a breath he glanced at me and then quickly away. "So what do you want to do?"
For the first time I allowed myself to take in the entirety of the mall. It was huge. It had stores laid out as far as my eyes could see, and on two stories.
"This is a mall?" I said in disbelief.
Surely I have seen a mall before but only in pictures on the internet when I had looked up malls when Alice mentioned taking me to one - I never went though.
"You live in a wealthy family and you are 16 yet you don't know what a mall is..." He smile and shook his head at me.
"I haven't really had the oppourtunity to really live."
Tyler narrowed his eyes as if he was trying to find a deeper meaning behind the words I had spoke.
"I was adopted in September." I said, hiding the true fact that I was actually born in September.
"Oh... oh. Renesmee I'm so sorry I forgot. It's just you look so much like your parents its hard to believe." I faked a smiled.
Of course I look just like my parents I am their biological daughter only I can't tell him this because it will be the seed of our family secret and his further questions will be the water that makes it blossom into a huge mess that could very well be the beginning of the end for him and anyone else who finds out.
I sigh. I wish I could just be truthful.
His phone rings again and he looks nervously at the screen before he visibly relaxes and answers it.
"Hi Jamie." He said in a cheerful tone. "Where are you at?" He pauses for a few seconds and then I see his shoulders slump as a frown obliterates his smile. "Oh... alright. You too." He hangs up and pockets his phone again.
"You have to go?" I frowned.
"No. Jamie can't make it so I guess you have me to yourself. What do you want to do?"
My frown flipped right back up and I grinned. "What can we do here?" I asked.
"Shop. Eat. Walk."
"I guess we can.... walk." I said uneasily as a stranger bumped up against me. I gasped and recoiled away.
"You okay?"
There were too many people around here. Too many strangers, too much noise. My eyes began darting around frantically as their voices grew louder and softer all around me. I felt my heart beat speed up and the room began to spin. Then another stranger brushed up against me.
I clasped my hands quickly to my ears and forced my eyes shut as I dropped to my knees. The voices wouldn't stop. They grew louder and louder. It hurt. I let out a scream of pain as it felt like my head was on fire and collapsed.
"Renesmee!" Tyler's voice was faint, far away but I could smell his scent. "Stand back!" He said to someone.
It was quiet for a few moments. Then I heard him talking to someone. His words seemed hurried and panickstricken. Then he seemed to shout only it was too quiet for a shout.
I blacked out but when I came too I was looking into a bright light. Sunlight?
"Miss Cullen can you hear me?" A unfamilar voice asked.
"Is she going to be okay?" I heard Tylers voice from somewhere near me. I couldn't tell where he was because his voice seemed to echo annoyingly.
Then I seccumbed to the darkness again.
When I had come to again I listened for the noise that had rendered me so helpless. There was no noise except for what sounded like a steady rhythmed beep somewhere behind me. I tried to open my eyes but I couldn't it was like they were missing. Were my eyes gone?
I tried to move my arms to feel for them but there was nothing. No movement. What's wrong with me? I began panicking. I couldn't move couldn't see. Where was my mother and father? I tried to open my mouth to call for them but I couldn't.
The beeping in the background began to speed up, quicker and quicker. Then I heard voices again.
"Her heart rate is spiking." One voice said.
"She is having a tachycardia episode." Another voice said. "Hand me the paddles."
What was going on? Mom dad...where are you?
I heard a buzzing noise and a voice say clear and then something was pressed to my chest. OUCH! My heart was throbbing madily in my head. Make it stop.
"She's still spiking."
"One, two, three, clear!" I felt the pain again.
I felt the feeling come back into my body as it arched towards the ceiling. I sucked in a long ragged breath and screamed.
Opening my eyes I looked around. Covered faces, strangers. Who were these people.
I began failing my limbs at them. I caught one person and hit him so hard he fell into something that made a loud crash.
"We need the restraints!" Someone shouted.
Then they all began advancing on me.
"She's in here Mr. Cullen." Tylers familar voice said. There were hurried steps behind him and a familar scent.
Then I saw them. My mother and father entered the room and their eyes widened as they saw the scene before them.
"Get your hands off my daughter." My father growled as he moved forward to sheild me.
"Mr. Cullen your daughter is a danger to herself and others. She just knocked out one of our staff."
"My daughter is just afraid." My father snapped angrily.
He sat on the edge of the bed and began stroking my hair while he hummed my lullaby. My mother joined me on my other side and began murmuring words of comfort.
I felt my headache dull before it disappeared all together. Even my heart beat returned to normal. I sighed as I felt the exhaustion take over and for the first time I made eye contact with Tyler. He looked scared. No maybe he was frightened. He just stared blankly at me for the longest time.
Then I heard it. "She's okay. She will be fine." It sounded exactly like Tylers voice only his mouth didn't move. "She's okay."
I turned my head to my father and he stared at me in shock.
"Did I just hear his thoughts?" I thought in my mind.
My father gave me a slight nod.
I could read thoughts just like my father. But did I really want this? Why now? Why did this just start now? What do I do now? All this and more began rapily flowing through my mind. I couldn't focus on one thing especially with a million voices whispering in my head all at the same time. I sighed and closed my eyes. Atleast its not shouting.
