Chapter 16

Finally they released their hands and Leah took a step back. They started a conversation that I was unable to catch as I had to move so the others could enter the house. I wonder what they were talking about? "Renesmee." I heard my father's voice call from upstairs. "Please come here." I glanced at Leah and Tyler once more before heading upstairs. As I came up to the third floor landing I saw my father waiting outside the door to his bedroom. He beckoned me to follow him. Taking a deep breath I walked down the end of the hall and entered their bedroom hesitantly. As I moved deeper into my parents room my eyes began darting around to take in the scene that unfolded before me. This was the first time I had ever really seen my parents room. The layout was identical to my own with the two stories. The upper played host to the sleeping area and the lower was the main floor. Just like my room the walls were upholstered but in a champagne color. The floors were a beautiful wood in an ivory color that matched the curtains on the doors to the balcony. The windows framed by long beige curtains that grazed the floors with its lace ends. Sitting in the center of the room was an off-white grandpiano. It's place couldn't seem anymore perfect then it already was. On the farside of the walls was a sitting area that made up a large portion of the northwest corner of the room. It overlooked the back of the property which was mostly a swimming area. Antique-rustic bookshelves rose up the vaulted ceilings and were filled with books, most aged with brittle spines. Just feet from the sitting area in the southwest corner was an antique chess table. Opposite the table on the southeast corner was a desk covered in files. I spotted one with my name on a lable and was barely able to see my mothers name on the one beneath it. Across from that was a massive cd player and a large selection of cds. Most of it was classical and chamber music and the rest was a mixture of rock, dark wave, alternative and worldly music. Strategically placed through out the room were pictures of my parents during their years together in high school, the wedding and even the honey moon. These were in different colors ranging from color, sepia, grey and even black and white. The biggest of them all was of the three of us and sat just above a set of dates. I only recognized one and that was my birthdate. "It's beautiful in here." I whispered as my eyes looked over the room again. "Thank you baby girl." My mother said as she took my hand and brought me over to the window seats where we sat down. My father sat on the other side of me and stared at the floor, his face hardened. He was in one of his 'statue' modes, as mom would call them. This usually only happened when his nerves were on edge. Why were his nerves on edge? I rose my hand and placed it on his shoulder and he quickly came back to life. "Renesmee?" "Why am I here?" My father glanced at my mother and then spoke. "Your mother and I decided that after the recent events-" He paused momentarily, his fist raising to touch his lips in a nervous manner. "Your mother and I think it be better for you to be aware and alert then ignorant and vulnerable." My forehead scrunched up in confusion. "I'm sorry but I don't really understand." "We think its time to have the talk about the birds and the bees." my mother said. "I already know what birds and bees are mom." My father held up his hand to gain my attention. "The birds and the bees is an English-language idiomatic expression that refers to courtship and s****l intercourse through reference to easily observed natural events." "For instance, bees carry and deposit pollen into flowers, a visible and easy-to-explain example of male fertilisation. Another example, birds lay eggs, a similarly visible and easy-to-explain example of female ovulation." My mother added. I looked at my parents dumb-foundedly. "What's male fertilisation and ovulation?" My father rose to his feet and left the room. Where was he going? My mother waited for the bedroom door to close before she continued. "Ovulation is a phase that occurs in a female's menstrual cycle." "What is a menstrual cycle?" "The menstrual cycle is the scientific term for the physiological changes that occur in fertile women for the purposes of s****l reproduction." "Like Penelope?" I asked. I remembered the morning when Penelope was talking about becoming a woman and being able to have s*x and babies if she wanted to. Aunt Rosalie wasn't very happy about her talking like that. My mother nodded. "Now, male fertilisation is the fusion of an ovum with a sperm, which eventually leads to the development of an embryo. An embryo overtime turns into a baby." "So the birds and the bees is about making babies?" My mother nodded her head. "What that boy Gregory did to you was manipulation of your innocence to take advantage of your lack of knowledge about your body and the way it works when you are an adult." "So... How does s*x work?" My mother took in a quick breath before forcing an uneasy smile. "Hmmm." there was silence for several minutes before she spoke again. "Before you think about moving on into that chapter of your adult life you must understand that s*x is an act that two people that are truly in love do together. Many people these days choose to do it just for pleasure and you can too but your father and I would prefer you to wait until after you are married." I nodded my head. "s*x leads to babies. My new friend Jamie told me today at school that I was lucky to have got away before Gregory had done as much to me as he had to her. She got pregnant and then lost her baby and almost died because of him." My mothers lips pressed into a hard line as she buried her face in her hands. I moved closer to her side and then placed my hands on her shoulders. "Mom," I breathed. "You don't have to worry about me I'm not in love so I won't be doing that anytime soon. Maybe not even for a hundred years." We both laughed. My father rentered the room and took his seat beside me. "Just live your life before you decide to settle down with Jacob, or in this case Tyler." he smiled and brushed his hand along my cheek. "Actually dad, I think Leah imprinted on Tyler anyways he is just a friend remember." My father grinned. "Leah hasn't imprinted on anyone yet." "But I saw her gawking at him." "Leah isn't really a professional at outer emotional expression. Tyler's mother was Sue Clearwaters best friend since childhood. His older sister and Leah played together since they were infants and it was news to Leah when she found out who Tyler was. She didn't know his sister and mother were dead though. Until now." I nodded my head. "Is she okay?" "It's hard but she will get through it with time." My father rose to his feet. "I believe your friends are looking for you." I rose to my feet and gave my parents a hug before I left the room. As I was heading down to the first floor I caught sight of a male with a bronze skin tone. I smiled before chasing after him as he headed down the right wing of the house. "Hey Jake!" I called as I grabbed the back of his shoulder. The male stopped and turned around. "Excuse me?" I clasped my hands together as my face flushed a deep crimson color. "I'm sorry I thought you were my friend." From somewhere behind me I heard Leah's voice calling for her brother. Apparently it was time for them to go home because Charlie was leaving. "SETH, COME ON!" She snapped. I heard her footsteps coming up behind me before they quickly silenced. Slowly I turned around and found her just inches behind me. Her face seemed vacant from all emotion as she stared towards the boy I had confused with Jacob. "Leah?" I waved my hand before her face but she didn't blink or acknowlege me in anyway. "Hey, are you okay?" the boy asked as he walked past me and stopped before Leah. "Excuse me?" Leah gasped as his hand touched her. "What? Oh! I'm fine." She smiled. "I'm more then fine. I'm Leah." The boy grinned. "I'm James Nanook." I looked at them and grinned to myself before I skipped off down the hall to go and find my friends. After checking all the rooms on the right wing I realized that they weren't here. I then looked outback and found them out by the pool house in swimsuits and swim trunks. "Hey Ness!" Seth called as I made my way down the path to the pool house. "Are you going to swim with us?" I nodded my head. "Of course!" "Have you seen Leah though she was supposed to be just getting a drink but that was like ten minutes ago." "I saw your sister with some boy named James." Jacob then joined our side laughing. "Man, Paul and Sam are going to have so much fun having Leah in the pack now." "What's up Jacob?" Seth asked "I just walked in on your sister with another guy. The look on her face man I swear to god she imprinted." Jacob made a gagging sound before throwing his arm over my shoulder. "So Ness, want to go for a swim?" "Sure." I took a step towards the swim house and froze. There was the girl named Rachel hanging on my cousin Matthew and just feet away hanging on Penelope was the boy who I knew to be Justin. Oh no!
