I took a big breath and then let the air out of my mouth. I placed the books I had taken from the library instead, except for one: Unexplained Historical events in Mount Ray. I still didn't understand how that strange paragraph had appeared with my name written on it, but I think that because I was tired it might be normal to see things that weren't there.
"What the hell is Mitoja?" that question kept hanging around in my head over and over again. I searched on the Internet but didn't get answers, no results appeared on Google.
"Will you need that book?" A black-haired girl asked pointing towards the book I was holding in my hands. "Sorry to bother you, it's just that I need it urgently for a homework"
"Mhm... I wanted to read a couple of things but I guess you need it more than me, so take it," I reached out so Ishe could take it with a nice smile. She answered the same way.
"Thank you! What's your name? I'm Molly," she said in an overly friendly tone as she offered to shake her hand
"Adara, " I answered while I was shaking her hand.
She seemed to be a good girl and judging her shy way of acting she didn't have many friends yet. So I asked "Are you new here?"
"I am. I just got to this school and I don't know anyone yet,".
I gave one more look to the book, which was already in Molly's hands, and let out a little laugh as I remembered what happened last night. Or at least, what I thought happened last night.
"That book is weird, be careful, " I said.
"I know, it talks about really weird things, doesn't it? I need it to find some Frederick Kerhoff's information and the history of his family here in town. If it wasn't for my job, believe me, I wouldn't bother you",
It struck me to hear that unusual name, "Frederick", since I never saw that name written in the book. I definitely spent the whole night reading every single line of that book, and in none of them I read that weird name.
"Frederick? I don't remember reading about him. Who is he?"
Molly opened her mouth surprised at my question and then took a seat at one of the library tables inviting me to sit with her. Apparently the answer to my question could be quite extensive.
"Frederick is quite a legend. Rather, it's like a myth. Old history books says that hundreds of years ago, Frederick and his family arrived to Mount Ray. Frederick's mother was really sick and her disease was incurable, leading her to an inevitable death. Historians say Frederick went wild because of his mother's death and committed one of the biggest massacres in history in this city killing half of the population. That day was recorded in history as a true tragedy and Frederick as a cold-blooded murderer"
The story Molly had just told me made me shudder. I didn't realized my skin was already completely bristling because of the story. However, it was not the story itself that made me shudder, but the coldness and normality with which Molly explained it.
"How can you relate something like that with such smoothness?"
"Because things didn't happen that way. That's what the history books want to make you believe. I've been researching Frederick's story for years, and I know things didn't happen that way. That's why I enrolled in this school, I know that here you do researches of these issues about occultism"
I couldn't understand well, so I asked "How is related this dude Frederick to occultism?"
Molly pulled a notebook out of her backpack, where she apparently had several notes about her long investigation.
"Actually Frederick's mother didn't die because of the disease. I can prove it. When his mother was in terminal phase and about to die, he terrified went to the oldest and most powerful sorcerer in the town: Assim Malih. He was known for his unexplainable power to turn people's desires into a reality, so without any doubt, Fred asked him to heal his mother from that disease and in return he would give Assim whatever he wanted. And that's exactly what happened. In my research I discovered several things that make me sure that Fred's mother was cured of her illness and was able to live a long and quiet life with her son. However, Frederick's wish had a price, and that price was very expensive",
I tried to process all the information Molly had just given me. Especially because I never read a thing about Frederick in the book. I was beginning to think this girl was paranoid.
"I think you need to take a break," I said, trying not to sound rude, "It's too much information and maybe you're overdoing it",
She looked at me confused and apparently she didn't understood what I was trying to tell her. Then she closed her notebook full of notes and deceived it back in his backpack. It was obvious that my words had hurt her and I was beginning to feel bad about it.
"I thought we were all in this school for the same reason: to prove that there is something more than what our eyes can see," and then she took her backpack and left.
I should have been a little nicer.
