Billee hadn’t come home the night before but Rayne knew it was to be expected. Angelos had been forthcoming about the Masquerade Ball and how he searched and prayed for Billee. Finding her had been the start of a new life for them both and Rayne would in no way want to impede such a glorious occasion. Billee must have apologized a million times while she packed her bag for the night, promising they would hang out before Rayne left to go home. Most women would have been hurt or felt cast aside but Rayne was ecstatic that Billee could have the job she desired, the man she needed and the lifestyle she deserved.
Thinking about her next steps, Rayne sipped coffee that morning on the patio as the sun came up from the water. Rayne decided to sightsee and get in all the history and splendor Greece had to offer early that day. This trip had accomplished almost all it needed to in a few short days but it felt like she had been away from Zane for months. The only thing she had left was closure with Dimitri. Once that was handled, she would be heading home and moving on. Dialing her phone she connected with the airlines to change her flight to the next day.
“Ma’am we have a flight tomorrow leaving at 2 p.m. but there is a rescheduling fee of $150 dollars and we only have one seat in business class and one seat in first class which is also an upcharge. You do have an upgrade available on your account. You can select business class for $600 more and first class for $800 more.”
Rayne paused in frustration. It was time for her to go home but the cost was staggering. She wanted to be done with Greece and go move on. She pulled out her wallet and smiled sideways.
“Let’s do first class. I have a different card to pay for the upgrade. Let me know when you are ready.”
Pulling out her American Express Platinum she decided this would be well worth the cost. A ride home alone on a plane was going to be bad enough as flying was not Rayne’s favorite thing to do. But riding home in comfort and being pampered would make it easier.
Giving the customer service rep her card number and verifying all the information, Rayne was now set to leave Greece the following day at two p.m. Her final bucket list while in Greece was as follows: See some sights, take pictures, by Zane a t-shirt and some other trinkets, tell Dimitri off, pack and go home.
Smiling at her list she rinsed out her coffee mug and went to get dressed for the day. She was hoping business would be gracious enough to help pay for the large credit card bill the following month would grant her. But either way, her life was about to be reborn and she was ready.
As she boarded the boat to sail from Crete to mainland Greece her cell phone vibrated madly in her bag. Looking at the screen it was her best friend. Swiping to answer she took a deep breath and prepared herself for the conversation at hand.
“Good morning!” Billee was overly cheerful and happy.
“Good morning my friend. My we do sound happy today already.” Rayne said merrily.
“Yes, I am. We sat up and talked for half the night and the other half, well I am sure your imagination can conjure up what went on. So what is the game plan today? Oh and you should have see Grumpy pants’ face when he saw me in the kitchen this morning. He didn’t even speak, just huffed mumbled under his breath and said he was going to the office all day.”
Rayne listened intently as Billee yammered on about everything and anything that came to her mind. It was obvious s*x did her some good but also created a hyperactive talking module in her brain to be set off.
“Well, I didn’t expect he would handle seeing you well since he is an ass who can’t deal with change. I don’t know what your game plan is but I am about ten minutes from the mainland and am going to take in the sites today.”
There was a pause on the other end. Billee was contemplating what to say next as Rayne was sure the prospect of staying another day with Angelos uninterrupted was most desired. Rayne knew her well enough to also know she probably didn’t want to seem excited, as not to hurt Rayne’s feelings.
“Oh? You went out alone? I told you I would…” Rayne interrupted the next words.
“Look Billee, your life and love is here. You have found all the was intended for you and you honestly need to just let it take course. I am thankful for you being there. I am thankful that you helped me get this far but this is your time, your turn. Go enjoy it. I am going to take in some sights, handle a few things and head back home tomorrow. I don’t want you to worry about it… Understand? I have had a great time and won’t forget it anytime soon. But know that I will be back to visit, with Zane and you better have a room ready!”
She could hear sniveling on the other end. Billee was not a crier. She wasn’t overly emotional in the slightest but they were sisters not by blood. Hearing the resolution and confidence in Rayne’s voice that moving on was the right course caused her pain and joy all in the same moment.
“Yours will come Rayne. I promise. Whatever it is that is meant for you will be good. I can feel it. I love you so much. Know that ok?”
“I know hun. That has never been a question. Will you be able to take me to the airport tomorrow though?”
“Abso-friggin-lutely! I wouldn’t miss that for anything.”
Rayne smiled and they chatted for another minute or two about what she was planning to go see that day. Angelos offered some food options around town that he thought she should try, once Billee put the phone on speaker.
“Thank you both. Enjoy each other…I mean your day.” Rayne snickered.
“We will. We aren’t leaving the house today I believe.” Angelos said with some darker intent in his tone.
“Alright then. I love you both and will check in later.” With that Rayne hung up the phone.
