Leina’s POV
We laughed and chattered about our lives as we had our dinner together. It warmed my heart. Being around with people we love is unmatchable. Chewing down the meal, I extended my arm to take more of the spiced corn salad when Edward swatted my hand.
“What the he—” I snapped at him annoyingly when he interrupted me.
“Thanks for reminding that.” He turned to face everyone before clearing his throat.
“Everyone pay attention to me.” He called as Ben snorted.
“Why are you enlisted in UNESCO’s World heritage Site list now? Because you look old enough to preserve if that’s what you wanted to ask.” Ben teased and we burst in laughter.
“Done with the gibberish? Now, I want you all to watch your tongue from this very moment.” He said and we stared each other like ‘has-he-lost-his-mind’.
“And now back to you Leina. If you have more of that (pointing to the salad) only than you can have it or else… not!” he grinned and I really started wondering that he really has gone mad.
“Why is that?” I asked confusingly when he smirked.
His phone buzzed and his face gleamed of pure happiness. That happiness which I thought wouldn’t adorn his charming face; that very happiness his face reflected when Tasha was around made my mouth went dry. I quickly averted my eyes because it was clear why Katie was interested in him. He really was handsome.
The doorbell rang and I took this chance to excuse myself but Edward stopped me. He rushed to the door and our faces had calculative look. Each wondering what was happening to him.
“Is it true that he really got a girlfriend?” Ben asked and my eyes widened.
We heard a cutlery fall as Katie dropped her spoon. She was stupefied and I threw daggers at Ben for being stupid enough to do this.
“What! No! He rejected it straight out, right?” I smiled nervously winking him to follow the lead.
He shifted in his chair guiltily. “Yes, of course he did! It totally slipped my mind.”
He was avoiding looking at me when I sighed. I just hope Katie can get over it because she isn't dumb to not catch the lie.
We heard hushed voices and soon, Edward appeared in sight with the biggest mischievous smile on his face. I turned my attention to Katie who seemed to want to escape the dinner.
“Guys, here is our surprise visitor.” His eager voice made him sound like a child and being contagious; it made us smile.
Turning our heads behind him, we saw Damien walking with a boyish-grin.
OMG! He looked amazing!
My eyes stayed on him and watched him blush.
What? He blushed?
I couldn’t restrain the big smile on my face watching him blush. It was comical yet sexy to watch this side of him.
I saw them walking over to us while his eyes never lifted up.
“So, how about it?” Edward asked expectantly watching us.
About what? I have seen him many times right…
But not this side—my brain pointed and I nodded.
It was now when I heard the chairs pulled abruptly and rushing footsteps. Feeling confused, I saw Ben running up to Damien while he kept smiling. My eyes followed his direction and felt air suck from me.

Ben’s POV
After that unfortunate incident, I quit my job and lived aimlessly. My heart was aching so, I stopped talking to everyone and do anything else than being lazy. I was in my bed most of the time wasting my life away. One day, Phillipe my friend barged inside my apartment and was really annoyed.
He yelled at me, discussed my problems and assured that things will be okay. He doesn’t know much about our situation but I just wished his prayers be answered. I know she was something more than a vamp. This fact gave me slight to little hope that Tasha will be back. My days and nights were ruined. Hence, I devoted myself to help the hunters. It wasn’t limited to that. I was back in ME and worked as assistant executive officer of IT dept considering my work.
I traveled far and near, cleansing people off the dark and sinister creatures. It wasn’t easy but I wanted to learn more about the supernaturals and still trying to figure out what she was.
Unable to find the answers and furious because the pictographs were still puzzle, I received a call reminding me that my leave wasn’t sanctioned. What could’ve been expected from ME? They can literally make you work double during the rush hours.
I was back and needed to grab some groceries for the dinner when I dashed into the least expected person.
“Edward?” I stuttered watching him alive.
Don’t get me wrong but I thought he must have been dead after not hearing anything from past a year and half.
“Hey! Ben, what a pleasant surprise.” He smiled but frowned.
“You’ve grown up.” His confusion evident; I rolled my eyes at him.
I was angry—yes! He was supposed to be my mentor but he ditched me. He offered me to be one of the hunters but then…*whoosh* he disappeared.
And now he was back without informing anyone.
“What do you want?” I asked pissed.
“Hey! Not need to be rude boy. I am back after so long yet you aren’t happy seeing me?” he asked as hurt crossed his eyes.
I scoffed and turned to face him. Crossing my arms across my chest, I glared at him.
“You thought I’ll welcome you when you disappeared all of a sudden. We were worried but you were coward to leave the city just like that! Not only that but you ditched me. You were the one to show me the new world and promised me to be the keeper of Earth but then… left me without further guidance!” I was fuming.
I saw how hurt he was and hesitant, thinking deeply but right now I was blinded by anger.
“You weren’t the only one hurt Mr. Lachlan. Just to remind you, I was deeply in love with her but I wasn’t a coward like you to give up everything and run away! I lived here in the same city with her memories haunting me…” my voice cracked and tears fought to come on the surface at her mention.
“Ben please… we can talk about it later. Right now, I am really sorry for my behavior but it was the only best decision for me that time. I apologize for letting you down but can we just… forget it for once?” He asked with pleading eyes.
It didn’t help me with my fury but I breathed deeply just to deal with it later. I was hungry and needed to be back soon with groceries.
“Okay. Only, if you’ll explain what you did there?” I smirked trying to change the topic and he sighed in relief.
“With pleasure because I am damn sure, you’ll be jealous.” He winked and I rolled my eyes at him.
It doesn’t matter whoever he found. I know the one I wanted.
After groceries he said he needed to buy some children clothes and that intrigued me.
“What?” he asked and I shook my head.
“Don’t tell me you got married and this was something to do with my jealousy?” I asked amused.
It would be shocking though, he settling down so soon.
“Hell no! You’ll need to wait just a little while because seeing would make you believe.” He grinned and his words stuck in my mind.
What was that supposed to mean?
The way he appeared cheerful with that same old grin was nostalgic. An unknown happiness brewed my heart and suddenly seeing him reminded me how glad I was.
Surprisingly, I hugged him and knew he was astonished at my sudden action—I was too. He patted my back as I let him go.
“Welcome back Edward!” I smiled genuinely and saw he was touched.
“Let’s crash the Lawrence’s dinner. What say?” he asked mischievously and I laughed.
“That’s the Edward I know.”
We shopped for whoever the child was to him and headed back home. Coming back together, we arrived at Leina’s house.
I know she’ll be surprised because I haven’t told them about my arrival yet.
Surprise! Surprise!
I winked at Edward and he pressed the doorbell before Katie appeared with confusion that soon turned to disbelief.
Her reaction was too strong and affected me. I wiped my tears away and stood there eagerly to join them soon. I know she loves him and would pray he could reciprocate her love because one-sided love is really painful.
Leina soon appeared and had the same reaction but she was quick to compose herself. We laughed and talked during the dinner when Edward was texting someone with that weird smile.
It was annoying me but then he stopped Leina and announced the most ridiculous thing.
Watch your tongue from now on!
Like for what dude? Are you Captain America or what?
I laughed inwardly until the bell rang. His excitement was overwhelming and rushed to the door like expecting someone.
There was someone he knew because of the hushing sound and the door opened with Damien trailing behind.
The way he behaved around him; Damien already met him but what was new about him was—his smiling face. He appeared calm, composed and suddenly lively. As if all the burden from his chest has lifted.
His gloomy self gone and now he was more normal, hell! The way he was staring down and blushing like a damned teenager; I doubted what has gotten into him until I followed his eyes and my world stopped.
Fuck!
