Chapter 7

I’m married. Those two words echoed in her head. Brett waited for her to speak, but she couldn't get the words out. She sat there stuck on those two words and when she came back to reality, she raised her hand and slapped him across the cheek. “Get out!” She demanded. “Lacey, just let me explain.” But she didn’t want to do anything but hide herself away from men. “Oh my God! I slept with a married man! How could you do that? How could you cheat on your wife?” She felt disgusted at the thought of the things she did to him. s**t, if she didn’t stop him, they would’ve been all over the house. “You don’t understand….” “Oh I understand that you’re married and slept with me twice. Why Brett?! You know what? Don’t answer that. Just leave.” “Lace, I understand…” “Shut up with that stupid word! This is my fault, I shouldn’t have gone to look for Edward.” She paced back and forth. “I can see that you're upset..” “Oh, you think? I’m definitely not happy that I slept with a MARRIED man! Get out, I need time to think.” “Lacey…” “Brett please just go…Just go,” she said, feeling overwhelmed. Brett grabbed his keys and she walked him to the door. When he was over the threshold, he turned around to be greeted with the door slammed in his face. Three days later, Lacey curled up in bed and watched as Brett called her eleven times back to back. He’s been doing that since she kicked him out. Part of her wanted to hear what he had to say and the other part of her felt like a home wrecking slut. “You sure know how to em,” she said shamefully to herself. She wondered how his wife would feel if she found out. She knew that if she was in her shoes, she would be in jail. She looked at the glass that sat on her nightstand empty with nothing but the stain of her lips where she had drank. With all of her alcohol gone, she sighed as she contemplated getting out of bed to get another bottle. She thought about calling him back so many times. She just couldn’t bring herself to do it. Her phone rang and she was fed up with him calling. “Would you stop calling me and go call your wife!” She yelled into the phone. “What the hell Lacey?” Izzy gasped through the phone. “Oh s**t, Izzy, I thought you were someone else.” “I’m sure you did. So.. Wanna talk about it?” “It’s not something worth talking about. Just some asshole who wanted to date me. I found out he was married.” “What a total d**k!” Oh that’s for sure, she thought. “Wait a minute..,” Izzy said. “What happened to that guy? What was his name again?” “Nothing. We’re.. “Lacey thought about how she was going to explain this. “He’s been busy. So I’m not sure when I’ll talk to him again.” “You’re lying, but that’s okay. You’ll tell me when you’re ready.” She shook head, knowing Izzy was going to call her bluff. “Anyway, get dressed b***h, we’re going out.” “Izzy, I’m really not in the mood.” “Girl, bye, I’ll be there in thirty minutes and you know I have a key so get your ass up.” Izzy hung up the phone and Lacey groaned into her pillow. She knew Izzy wasn’t going to go easy on her either so, she dragged herself out of bed and got ready. In exactly thirty minutes, Izzy was walking in the door. “You better not be sleep.” “Girl hush, I’m up and dressed,” Lacey yelled as Izzy was walking into her room. “Oh damn, Lace. You look good.” Lacey smiled as she applied her lipstick. She wanted to dress really sexy. She wore some black leather leggings with a matching crop top. She had a small silver purse that strapped across her body. She paired it with some open toe heels showing off her red polish on her toes. She knew it would be hard, but she wanted to do everything in her power to forget about him. “Ready?” Lacey asked as she grabbed her purse. “Yup, let’s go.” They arrived at a nightclub and parked in valet. When they got in line, they could hear the whistle coming from men. “I see you. You ladies understood the assignment.” The handsome man smiled. His eyes were on Izzy and she had the nerve to blush like a shy girl. Lacey almost scoffed at that. She knew better than anyone that Isabella Wells isn’t a shy person. When they finally made it to the bouncer, he arched a brow at them. “Id?” “Seriously?” Lacey asked. “Damn straight.” Lacey rolled her eyes as she pulled out her ID and Izzy followed behind. He examined both of them before giving it back. “You’re good to go.” They walked in smiling as old school hip hop was blasting in their ears. “Let’s go to the bar,” Lacey suggested. She needed to drink before she got on the dance floor. She ordered a few shots of Jameson and gave one to Izzy. “f**k married men!” She yelled. Izzy eyes widened as they clinked their glasses and threw back their shots. She knew Lacey was pining over Brett. She doesn’t know exactly what happened but she knew her best friend. She knew that Lacey becomes reckless when she’s hurt. It’s like she becomes a whole different person. She didn’t care about the consequences of her actions. “I need another drink,” Lacey said as she pulled out her credit card. “Okay that’s enough, Lace. Let’s dance off the alcohol.” Izzy grabbed Lacey’s credit card and pulled her to the dance floor. They danced, occasionally grinding on each other in a non s****l way. Lacey let the music vibrate through her body, giving her a sense of energy. She was also drunk and let the arms of a man snake around her waist. She didn’t mind because she felt free and she needed every distraction to keep her mind off of Brett. The guy from outside of the club was grinding all up on Izzy and although Lacey was very intoxicated, she was having a great time. “Yesss,” she cheered Izzy on as she was moving in a seductive rhythm with the guy. Lacey began to grind her bottom on the guy’s package. She could hear him hiss as she turned around to face him and smiled when she noticed how cute he was. His hands were in the small of her back and they were swaying together. “So do you just sneak up on all the girls while they’re dancing?” He flashed a bright smile. “Do you just let random guys hold you the way I’m holding you now?” “Depends on the man.” “Really?” She smiled, “Yup.” “I’m Sierra,” she lied. It was a fake name that she and Izzy came up with when they were going out. It was for their protection. “I’m Eric.” Eric was indeed handsome. He seemed innocent like he was fresh out of graduate school. He was well dressed even in a club. “What brought you here?” “Just here with my friend and his wife. She brought her friend, I guess to set me up with a double date type of thing but, we aren’t just clicking.” “Yeah, you definitely need to have chemistry.” She found herself liking him so far, but she wouldn’t just get ahead of herself yet. “Sometimes that chemistry just comes when you least expect it,” he said in a tone that was mixed seductively with a southern drawl. He stared at her, before clearing his throat. “Would you like another drink?” She knew she was already over her limit but one more wouldn’t hurt right? “Of course.” “Cool and I’ll even introduce you to my friend.” He smiled. “Ahhhh, already meeting your people. Don’t you think we’re moving a little too fast?” She playfully squinted her eyes as he guided back to the bar. As they passed Izzy, she told her that she’ll be at the bar which is still in line of sight. They made it there and there stood a man and woman. The man’s back was turned but it was something so familiar about. Oh no, she cursed herself. No more thinking about him. It’s not him! She yelled internally. He ordered her a drink and this time she didn’t hesitate to down it. “Damn girl,” Eric chuckled. “Okay you’re one and done.” Lacey laughed. “So where are you friends?” “Oh yes,” he turned and tapped the guy on his shoulder. When the guy turned around, Lacey almost choked. Her heart raced, beating so hard that it was going to her ears. “Everyone, this is my new friend, Sierra.” She faintly heard the sound of Eric’s voice but her eyes stayed glued on the man that’s glaring at her. Ooohhh he was angry. “Sierra, these are my friends, Shondra and her husband, Brett.”
