“You can’t make me envious Georgia. It won’t work on me.” Laura laughs hysterically seeing her best friend on a video call trying to make her begrudging with her newly wed husband, by planting kisses around David’s bare back while he sleeps.
“What are you Laura Eduoard? Don’t you feel an inch of embarrassment? For Gods sake you’re going into your thirties in a months time.” Georgia rolls her eyes at her failed attempt to make her friend feel bad.
“Wow, I can’t believe this. You got married some weeks ago and now you’re one to preach. N'oublie pas que tu es plus âgé que moi (Don’t you forget you are older than I am).” Laura backfires with her words as Georgia let’s out an exclaim, with the two teasing each other.
“I hate you.” Georgia feigns a frank face, while it only makes Laura chuckle. “But well, I’m certain your spinsterhood is about to come to an end.” Georgia adds, as it is now her turn to hold the upper hand while Laura stares back dumbfounded.
“What do you mean by that?” Laura questions with furrowed brows.
“I’m saying I saw you in a white beautiful long dress,” Georgia explains.
“I believe you’re finally going insane my friend, cause I am right here with you and I am not in any white dress.” Laura stares at her friend in a gaze of pity.
“In my dreams for Gods sake. I saw you in my dreams walking with a beautiful white dress, and a huge smile on your face. I couldn’t see who you’re husband to be was, but you did get what you weave always wanted Laura,” Georgia ends her final statement with solemnity.
“And what is that?” Laura asks her friend, while her smile weakens.
“To be happy.” Georgia responds with a genuine smile that makes Laura to go silent for a second.
“Oh s'il vous plaît (oh please) enough of your dreams. Do you recall you told me you saw me in your dreams to be very wealthy and being able to buy you any Louis Vuitton bag that you want, and then what happened?” Laura ask her friend with a tilted neck, while Georgia goes silent but rolls her eyes. “You can’t answer me!” Laura scolds her friend. “Cause I am still here and not swimming in money or being able to go on any vacation I want.” Laura tells her friend.
“But you did recently buy a new Hermes bag.” Georgia speaks out of the blue with pouted lips, taking Laura to slam a palm to her face. “Whatever,” Georgia rolls her eyes when Laura doesn’t say another word to her.
“Go back to your husband, I need to go to work.” Laura informs her friend signaling the end of their talk based on time differences which the two are on, considering Georgia is still on her honeymoon.
“You need not say it twice, how can I leave such a good looking snack on the bed all by him…” Laura doesn’t wait for her friend to complete her statement when she ends the call with a laugh covering her lips at her actions, knowing Georgia would go on a rampage for that.
And just like she predicts, Georgia begins to call back, but Laura refuses to pick for all she will hear is Georgia’s praise of her husband and tantrums, while she is already getting past her time to leave for work.
Laura checks herself out in her lengthy mirror, adjusting the fitted blue knee length dress on her body, while her black heels raises her height, along with the light makeup and hair in a bun which she completes her look with.

“Sir, Nixon motors called to reschedule their meeting with you today. Apparently, an emergency came up with them and would need to reschedule for tomorrow. I do know how important the meeting is and how tomorrow is a special day to pay visit regarding your mothers death anniversary, which I why I seek to ask you on what you want done.” Laura explains fluently to her boss Lucien, while he takes his attention away from the file he is accessing.
“Reschedule the meeting for next week Wednesday.” Lucien instructs Laura while she cross checks her tab for the particular day.
“Sir your schedule is tight for that day and I doubt Nixon motors would accept to come all the way to France by next week.” Laura utters her opinion.
“I know. They won’t. Which is why you will be going in my place.” Laura’s gaze goes stiff for a second, hearing Lucien’s words.
“Sir, you want me to finalize the deal on your behalf?” Laura inquiries as it does take her to stun for Lucien has never asked, nor has she done a thing a such ever since her five years of working with him.
“Laura you are my longest personal assistant to work for me and with your works you are qualified for the role which I am giving to you. Besides, you will be going with the management team just in case. So you have nothing to be scared of.” Lucien assures his employee.
“I’m not scared sir, it’s just stunning to me sir, but I will do as you have said. Thank you sir.” Laura speaks with appreciation in her words, for she knows that if Lucien can ask her to represent him in a foreign country, it must mean she has been doing a good job as a secretary and personal assistant.
“I know I gave the job to right person. In that case, book your flights tickets to the US and while you’re there, you can have a week off to take care of yourself. Expenses from the company.” Laura’s gaze goes stiff again, but this time, much longer than earlier, as she finds Lucien’s generosity in comparable. Laura doesn’t bother to argue, cause if she is to tell the truth, she does need a personal trip and her boss has just handed it to her on a silver platter.
“Thank you sir. Je suis en effet reconnaissant (I am indeed grateful.)” Laura speaks with gratitude, while Lucien nods in acknowledgment and Laura begins to take her leave.
“One more thing Laura,” Laura stops in her movements, by turning back to face Lucien. “Kindly deliver a package for me while you’re there, will you?” Lucien says.
“Alright sir. Where is the destination?” Laura asks.
“A and A enterprise, to Adrian Alimson.” Earlier Laura’s cells went stiff but this time they go cold as she hears a name whom she thought she is never to meet again in her life. A name that seems to give her goosebumps and racing heart all at the same time. A name coming from her boss, of a man whom requested of her to be his fiancé and she declined. That same man is whom she would have to see again.
At the moment Laura would give anything not to go on the trip anymore, but who is she to decline a request from her boss, when she has to remain professional at all times.
“Of course sir.”

Laura stares outside the window, seeing the dark clouds cover the sky from where she seats, on the moving plane.
Flying on air has always been one of Laura’s favorite things to do, as she does find it calming to her, for she is left to wander staring at the clouds and feeling the movements of the plane be soothing to her, yet, this particular flight remains different as her mind stays heavy and she finds herself thinking every second on how she is going to face a particular man.
In Laura’s life, nothing has ever weighed tremendously on her like the thought of Adrian, as she finds herself scared. Sacred of something she seems not to have figured out, perhaps she has but is frightened to let out of her mouth.
Then, the words of Georgia sipping into her thinking of her being in a white dress. If Laura is to be truthful, she does know that a higher percentage of Georgia’s dreams usually become reality, but she couldn’t tell that to Georgia. One because her ego and the other, because she fears that the only man she has encountered as of recent is the one and only Adrian Alimson.
For a man like Adrian, Laura sees him as someone incapable of love. So how can he love her? Or make her happy like Georgia said?
Laura fears for herself, recalling she did have a similar dream of being chatty and relaxed with him, thereby giving him the necklace her grandmother handed over to her. To the contrary, Laura suggests to handing over the necklace to Adrian willingly, with the amount of interest he has in it, for she is certain that if he sees her again, he will be reminded of it, and she is definitely not the one to be mixed in a thing or two with men like Adrian. After all,
Once bitten, twice shy.
