Dinner for four.

1533 Words
The soft knock on the door by Laura's hand, brings the attention of the three whom stay inside away from the meal which they are about to devour in. "That may be Laura, excuse me." Lucien gets up from the dinning chair, while he walks to the door, leaving the table for his wife and Adrian. The door swings open, revealing Laura as Lucien guessed, with a smile on her lips. "My apologies, I'm late aren't I?" Laura speaks upon seeing her boss. "Yet, you're here. Entre (come in)." Lucien widens the door for her to come in. "I didn't know what to bring, so I hope this will suffice." Laura speaks, handing Lucien a bottle of Triennes Rose wine. "This is very thoughtful of you. Sandra loves this, and so do I. Merci (Thank you.)" Lucien smiles delightfully back at Laura, before leading her to the table. Laura's smile remains on her lips, up until she sights a familiar demeanor on the table with Sandra, one that brings her smile to fall and become stiff. "Laura, you're here! Welcome," Sandra whom sees Laura gets up from her, pulling her into a light hug, with a peck on the left cheek, while Laura does the same. "And she brought a Triennes Rose," Lucien adds, while raising the bottle of wine, taking Sandra to shine bright with excitement. "Thank you Laura." Sandra appreciates, all while Laura pressing her lips together by forcing out a smile, with the remembrance of the presence of a man whom sit opposite where she stands. A man she has come not be able to tolerate, yet, fate seems to be appearing him into her life. Adrian. On the other hand, Adrian whom sits, sits with a smirk on his lips, as his eyes ravishes Laura's body in the red velvet sheath dress she wears, and black inch heel, which extends her height. "Evening Miss Eduoard," Adrian greets, as Laura gradually turns her attention to Adrian with a stiff on her lips. "Evening Mr Alimson." Laura makes her greetings short, while she passes Adrian a nod. "May I say you look stunning," Adrian extends their conversation to Laura boldly, while the other two whom stays in the room, share glances with Adrian's compliment, yet, it isn't a surprise to Lucien, as it is because of her Adrian decided to accept his invitation, which makes him bias, as none of Adrian's appearance was mentioned to Laura beforehand. And if it was, it is a definite she would have found an excuse to bail. "Thank you." Laura answers with a last glance at Adrian, before moving to take the next seat close to him, which she wouldn't have done, if Lucien wasn't sitting next to his wife, having her to do the same. "Please go head Laura, serve yourself," Lucien nods at his assistant, while she nods, before resting her purse on the table and serving the meal in front of her to her plate. All while, Adrian remains natural, and watching each of Laura's actions. Deep down, Adrian knows his words to his friend earlier, are starting to feel more and more of a lie, as if he is to tell the truth, he is indeed intrigued and attracted to a woman as Laura. A woman whom seems not to give him her smiling face. "Adrian, Lucien tells me you'll be heading back to the US tomorrow?" Sandra speaks, as she pours each of them a glass of wine. "Yes, that is correct." Adrian answers. "What? Starting to miss me already?" Adrian says, taking Sandra to chuckle, and unlike her to respond with a snarky comment back to him, she only laughs, proving his friends statement to be true about the years doing justice to their bickering. "Well it is good to see you, and I will say the new haircut suits you." Sandra comments, taking Adrian to smile. "Thank you. And you do look lovely yourself." Adrian returns the compliment. "So Laura, it seems you and Adrian know each other? That's quite odd." Sandra speaks, while each of them begin their meal. "And why will that be odd?" Lucien invades the conversation. "Well it is known Laura do not fancy flirtatious men," Sandra speaks her mind, as that takes a chuckle out of Lucien at his wife's bluntness. At her words, Laura can't help but chuckle lightly with her. "See, Laura agrees with me." Sandra adds. "Ne le fais pas mal paraître, chérie. (Do not make him look bad, darling.)" Lucien tells his wife, while Laura can only chuckle the more, taking Adrian to stare dumbfounded. "Okay you can all stop now, if you want to say something, say it so I can hear you." Adrian says, taking his friend now to chuckle. "Do not tell me you do not understand French till date Adrian?" Sandra says with furrowed eyebrows to Adrian. "Till date, darling. You know it's surprising how he has mastered half the world's language, yet, French seems to be difficult for him." Lucien answers instead. "Thank you Lucien, but I'm certain I can respond myself." Adrian stares back at his friend whom only chuckles more. "You should teach him Laura, perhaps he may learn faster." Sandra turns to Laura. "Oh I'm certain, Mr Alimson has more capable candidates for such role." Laura says, trying each way to discard any relationship with Adrian. "Well now that you do mention it Sandra, that sound like a fantastic idea." Adrian staring back at Laura, with his words to Sandra, while Laura meets his gaze. "Sorry to disappoint you Mr Alimson, but I do not have time to teach people whom state they have billions to buy or learn whatever it is they desire." Laura states her words clearly, recalling Adrian to his statement of wanting to buy her necklace with his ridiculous high price. "And it seems, I have come to realize that such methods are not efficient with a woman like you." Adrian says, staring back at Laura with a smirk, while the other two can only watch with intrigue of what holds them together. "Good for you, Mr Alimson." Laura responds with forced smile, before taking her gaze back to her meal. "Tell me Laura, how long have you been working for Lucien?" Adrian speaks, deciding not to end the conversation. "Six years." Laura answers curtly, while Adrian only nods his head and facing back his meal, which he has almost completed. "Why do you ask Adrian, want her to come working for you?" Lucien asks his friend with a smile. "No. She is better here with you." Adrian answers as his response and demeanor to answer it stays different than previous of him having a smirk, as now he stays cold and stern, which takes his friend to perplexity. "Not that I would let it. Laura is a good employee and good for the company." Lucien says with a genuine smile on his lips. "Merci, Mr Lucien." Laura nods her head lightly. Soon enough, each plate becomes empty, as the four engage in random discussions. "Thank you for the meal Sandra. It was delicious." Laura speaks, while Sandra sends her a big smile. "However, it saddens me to say this, but I must leave early for some matters I have to attend to." Laura adds softly. To say it to truth, Laura does and did enjoy the dinner, and if Adrian wasn't by her side, it would have been perfect and she wouldn't have to leave early. With Laura's attitude, one may think it is more than a necklace which Adrian offered to buy from her that fuels her intolerance to him, yet, it is more than that, as their first meeting and his first impression to her, was a total zero of a ten, and not to speak of his rudeness and arrogance. "Of course. Thank you for coming." Sandra speaks, whereas Laura takes that as her gesture to get up from the chair. "And I will also have to get going. My flight is by the morning. Wouldn't want to miss it." Adrian speaks. "Of course. Perhaps, you could drop Laura on your way back?" Lucien speaks taking Laura to rise her gaze to him. "I recall your car is still at the workshop from earlier today." Lucien explains, regarding the incident of a truck hitting Laura's car at their parking lot at office hours. "No, you don't have to. That will be too much of a stress and I hate to inconvenience anyone." Laura stating in the most polite way possible speaks back. "I'm sure it isn't. Also, it is quite late, better a familiar face than one you do not know." Lucien adds. "Right Adrian?" Lucien takes his gaze to his friend. "Of course." Adrian doesn't disagree, as his gaze meets with Laura, seeing her remain silent nor disagree. "Thank you Sandra. Have a wonderful night." "And you too. Have a nice flight." Sandra nods back, while Lucien moves to his friend, pulling him into a hug, before the two depart from their home, and into Adrian's car, leaving a dinner for four which they had. ———————
