LOGAN
THE NEXT DAY IN THE UNIVERSITY proved to be a challenge for him. He didn’t know where to begin, maybe begin erasing the memory of that mysterious girl. It wasn’t helping him, strutting down the hall with an eagle eyes, with a more heightened sense, in search of that face.
Pumasok na siya sa lecture hall niya. Opened his laptop, he was getting ready for his class. And then the alarm bell rang, signaling that the classes after lunch has started.
One by one, the students entered the hall, sat, some are lonesome, some are chatting and giggling, on their own world. He cleared his throat, signaling that he was about to speak on his mouthpiece.
But when he was about to open his mouth, a figure, from the side of his eyes, strutted slowly in one of the benches, he almost froze, paused a bit, and the view of that lady became more clearer in his eyes.
Those exact eyes, a little blush in that small feminine and cute face, a little fringe, staring back at him in one package. He can still recall what she said, na crush siya nito?
He stepped back, that punk, that girl, smiled back at him sweetly. It was like an ‘I know what you know’ smile that make his heart and whole system leap.
How could he even teach at this moment? When that entity, that figure, staring at him, scrutinizing him with her existence?
But he has to fight this thing, this whole new thing that he was feeling. He has never felt this way before, and it was terrorizing his perfectly planned life.
He has to think that girl is a frog, or a stone, something immobile. Tama, iyon ang gagawin niya!
He has to think that this entity has no power over him, this witch! He shut his eyes a bit, and then opened his eyes, focus in a single empty chair. Just one thing that would lose away the presence of this one enchanting vixen. And so he continued, cleared his throat and went to his power point presentation.
He became relaxed again, immersed with the formula and numbers at his hindsight, he started to do what he has been doing this past few years, and that is to teach.
So teach did he, and he became enamored again with the world that he is more comfortable of. The world of logic, the world that everything makes sense for him.
He was sure he was doing well, he was sure that after this lecture, he can strut out of this hall like nothing happened. His whole life will continue as immaculately planned and scheduled. He will have a comforting night watching his documentary show.
With a bowl of salted fries and wine. After a sumptuous steak, potato and broccoli.
Logan Vallejo will continue his serene life without any distractions. He was so f*cking sure of it, not until midway through his sentence, in his hindsight, one arm shoot up in the air.
He was aware of it, but tried to ignore the whole existence of that action. But the students started to whistle, even giggle, and call his attention.
“Sir, may gustong itanong si Farrah!” aniya ng katabi ng babaeng iyon.
And so, the witch’s name is Farrah. He cant continue to ignore the whole commotion at kung pababayaan niya ay baka mas lalo pang lumala ang eksena. He craned his neck, and there she was, smiling widely, still her arms stretched in the air.
“Yes?” he tried to appear cool.
“I have a question sir,” the vixen looked excited.
“Maybe you’re a new student?” himig niya, “that’s why you don’t know my rules. I alot a question and answer portion for a few minutes after my lecture.”
“Okay sir,” she smiled and dropped her arm. “Mamaya ko na lang itatanong.”
What the hell will that question be? Now, she has again, tried to shake his world by her antics. Her crazy antics.
“Okay, and may I know you’re surname, miss? I’ll check you on the records.”
“Perez, sir,” aniya ni Farrah, na parang nagningning ang mata. Na parang masaya itong nagtanong siya tungkol dito.
“Alright,” himig niya. He felt more of that simmering excitement in the air between his students. Maybe they know something that he didn’t? Maybe everyone knows that Farrah has a crush on him, his mind whispered, but he whisked it away.
Nagpatuloy siya sa lecture hanggang sa dumating na nga ang pinakahihintay ni Farrah. Ang question and answer portion.
It seemed that this girl was quite intent. The moment he announced that anyone can post questions or clarifications about his lecture, only Farrah’s hands shoot up in the air. There were little giggles in the room.
“Yes, Ms. Perez?” he announced.
Farrah’s throat cleared, and then she asked him, “Sir, may girlfriend ka na ba?”
What erupted was an uproar of kilig giggles, and a teaseful woos in the air. Everyone’s eyes shoot up on him.
He know, that he looked displeased, there was now a wary and careful look from some of the students. But Farrah seemed unfazed, even more confident now and smiling.
“Why do you ask? That is totally unrelated to my lecture, Ms. Perez. Any other questions from the class?”
The class looked defeated dahil sa hindi niya pakikisama. But it was the rightful thing to do. If he answered those kind of questions, all other personal questions will follow which is not proper.
“I don’t have a boyfriend,” anunsiyo ni Farrah, enough for him to hear and enough for another teaseful woos to shoot up in the air.
It was at that moment that his eyes darkened, even more so, directed at that vixen na walang preno.
“One more attempt for this, Ms. Perez, and I can actually profile this as a misconduct or misdeamenor.”
Farrah seemed to look like she was betrayed. Her eyes flickered like what she heard was unbelievable. There was a triumphant gaze from him, especially when he announced that the class was dismissed.
May tumapik kay Farrah, ushering her to leave like others, pero hindi ito nauntag, nagpatuloy ito sa pag-upo.
It was until she was the only student in the hall that was left behind, that he started to clear his throat again.
“You want anything else?” he closed his laptop, ready to leave. “I’ll go.”
“You’re not really doing that, right?” she asked, her brows furrowed, “or you’re gonna tell this to the guidance?”
“I don’t know,” nag kibit-balikat siya. “I just don’t like what you did there, it was improper Ms. Perez, and I believe it’s best that you wont do that again to the other professors.”
“Wait-“ napatayo ang dalaga, upon seeing him take a step.
“What-“ nagmamadali ito sa pagbaba sa hall, towards him. Napatigil siya. It was very quick. She was already infront of him.
Her eyes danced around him, it was serious, like she wanted to express him something, something so serious.
“W-what?” he aired, looking down a bit at her, observing her face too. It’s easy to get lost on those eyes, and that face. There was a certain charm to it for sure.
“I like you,” she aired, ever so sincerely. “And I wanted to do this for a long time-“ and even before he can speak or move, kuminto si Farrah, just enough height, for her to plant her lips on his. A kiss that would change his perfectly planned life.
