Chelsie
“I know her,” Chelsie whispered, but it was so soft of a whisper and she was grateful that Matt didn’t hear it. He was not supposed to know that she knew her. She bit her lips, she didn’t know what to do.
“Sorry talaga, pero tumatahol si Apollo kanina pa, at dito niya ‘ko dinala,” gusto niyang ibaon ang sarili sa lupa.
“It’s okay,” she heard him say it through, but in a manner in which he gritted his teeth to probably relax himself.
She wonders why he came back? May nalimutan ba ito? May kukunin. She has to pass through him. “Promise, wala akong kukunin, wala akong gagawin-“
“I believe you,” he aired, looking a bit apologistic now, “I’ll fetch the broken glass, you can come back to your resting spot.”
She timidly walked past him. A resounding voice in her head still rings…that she knows her. She knows that woman. In fact, she was a fan of him.
When she was out of that room, she continued to strut her way, and she thought deeply, why maybe, maybe Matt has thought of releasing his own book. Was it to get back to the woman he loved? Through something that might connect with her?
That woman was Sofia Fernandez, or much better known to her fans as Sofia Writes, a blogger and a novelist, she wrote the Heartbreak Diary, a best selling novel that speaks about the regrets of a girl with her first love.
And she cant believe that she’s in front of Matt, who probably is Sofia’s first love and where she got the inspiration from. Sofia is a very private person, pero silang mga fans na todo research ay may nasagap sa konting na i-leak na impormasyon tungkol dito. Which includes her face and what she’s probably up to. She comes from a rather well to do family, and writing was just one of her passion, from her string of many talents.
Chelsie breathed deeply, and planted her eyes again in the book. She was sure as hell that is Sofia. She felt more intrigued with Matt’s life more than ever, and in a writer’s view point, it might become good to become more interested with her subject matter. She can view him now with a shrewder and deeper eyes, and maybe that is good…
Night became more deeper and she was now visited with the urge to sleep, she slipped in her room again and was sent into a deep slumber by her senses.
MATT
He picked up some of the pieces of the few shattered glass, careful not to be pricked by it. He remembered how in the past, there were shattered pieces of glasses too, in another time, in another situation…of himself shattering those glasses of beer, of himself sobbing outside the door of the person whom he loved. They were engaged, ikakasal na sila. He was quite young, turning twenty-five, but he was sure that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Sofia.
Sofia was giving him the support, he thought ‘they’ were okay. Na okay lang din dito ang lahat ng nangyayari, but he didn’t know she was suffering too.
He didn’t know that along with everything else, he would lose her too. After the passing of their dad, that’s when everything is revealed to him…when Sofia broke off the engagement.
Hindi daw siya nito kayang pakasalan.
Because Sofia was pregnant with someone else’s child…and that brought his world upside down. His father’s death, a company in shambles, and losing the only person he thought would be his shoulders to lean on in those difficult times.
It broke him a lot as a man, it broke him to pieces. Broke him and forged him to become a new person. Someone who he has never known has existed before. This side of him who was driven, eager to wash away all the pain, he diverted all his attention to bringing up the only thing that was left for him to nurture.
And maybe, he wasn’t so over about it yet. Maybe he has kept those anger and pain linger into his system, long enough before he hit his head in the wall. Maybe the reason he agreed into writing this book is to reach out to someone, for someone to one day be in the aisle of the bookstore, and picking up the book where his face into it.
Maybe he can leave a legacy, and one of that legacy is forgiveness. But could he really give that to the world?
CHELSIE
Napamulagat si Chelsie, that dream was repeated again.
What are those dreams for? It was an early morning, and her feet dragged her outside. She wanted the early sea whiff, and she was starting to get addicted to it. Sariwang hangin mula sa dalampasigan…
Nothing could beat that. She grabbed one of her books, and slipped on her slippers. Mag a-alas sais pa lang at tiyak niyang wala pang nilalang na gising ngayon. She almost lost track of time, isang araw na lang ay puwede siyang makapasyal sa pamilya niya. Kaya gusto niyang sulitin ang last day niya bago ang day-off.
And she remembered that she needed to talk to Matt. How could he tell it to Matt, to her boss? Writing a book, especially of a book of someone else’s life seems so much more complicated than it seems.
Just a few words, and opening paragraphs for Chapter one. She has a long way to go.
But those guidelines felt empty, and what she knew, felt very little from that piece of paper. She needed to at least interview him personally today, maybe squeeze something more from her.
She was contemplating if she can even ask him about the picture frame-
“Early walk, huh?” anas ng isang boses na halos magpalundag sa kaniya sa dalampasigan. Napalingon siya at nabanaag niya si Matt, it seems like he was in a running attire.
“I was uh, running- there’s a forest trail also,” pagpapaliwanag niya at tinuro ang labas ng gate, “then I finish my run here.”
“Oh,” she could only mumble those words. Tama ba? But she cant bear to tell this to Matt.
“Are you thinking of something?” he peeked at her.
They almot forgot about the picture frame incident last night.
“Ah wala, tama ka, m-maganda kasing maglakad tuwing morning. Fresh air,” she gingerly smiled. How could she act so casual like this?
“I remember, it’s your off tomorrow, you can take it to visit your family.”
She smiled again. “I can take you, I’m going back to the city too. This would be more comfortable for you.”
Hindi niya alam kung mag-a-agree siya doon. But she has no choice.
“Ah, Matt?” she voiced. He listened, intent on looking at her that she has to control herself out from blushing. “Is it okay, kung may ika-clarify ako sa mga sagot mo? Sa papel. Like an interview, one on one. Baka may mga tanong pa ko.”
“Well, I expected for you to do that,” it was an agreeable tone. “How about lunch time, there’s a café restaurant nearby here. The place is nice, I can take you.”
Again, the complexities. That sounded like a date.
